Re: NASTE Odd Thursday Night Racing Rules & Current Thread (2,165 replies, posted in NASTE)
Let's look back at the original intent of the Classic Sports Car Class and the path that got us to here. I established the Classic Sports Car Class for the small sports cars from the '50s and '60s that would have raced in SCCA type races. Cars like the Ninco Classic cars were the class models. Originally there was no cut off date or year of manufacture, it seemed simple enough to me to interpret what qualified as a classic sports car. Silly me, mistake one! It didn't take long for the racers to start modifying the cars for better handling and more speed, and eventually realizing the Slot.it Ford GT fit the definition of "Classic Sports Car". This was a game changer. Add to that the availability of aftermarket chassis with motor pods, and some really well built "scratchbuilt" cars and it was time to reign in the class a little. So I established two divisions of the class. Division I retained the 7mm wide rear tires and non-podded chassis with no articulation allowed. Division II was established to allow the Slot.it Ford GT40, articulated scratchbuilt chassis, and the aftermarket chassis that were hitting the marketplace. The rear tire width was bumped up to 8mm on division II cars to further enhance the improvements of an articulating chassis. The third revision was to adopt a spec motor for each division, 14k in division I to bring the car's speed down, and 18k to allow the division II cars to be the faster of the classic sports car. This is where we are today.
I think one thing that would improve both divisions is for each to be defined by specific years and the cars raced within those time periods. We have discussed it and I think the cut off for Division I cars should be 1964 to allow the inclusion of the Ferrari 250 GTO. In addition I think there needs to be a maximum body width spec for Division I. I like the idea of Corvettes being eligible in Div.I but I think the extra width of the Grand Sport Corvettes might give them an advantage over the narrower cars. I feel the Grand Sports should be in Div.II with wider cars being allowed. I would set Div.II for the years 1965 through 1975 and change the rear tire spec to 10mm. Let the Division II cars rip, but reign in the Division I cars.
My thoughts...............

Speaking as one who can't readily locate his "race" cars but is in possession of a large volume of "cars", I vote for NO "new" car models/types!
Quoting myself; "I ain't buyin' NO new cars!"

I made my first visit for 2019 out to the Scuderia Kouba Shop yesterday. Chris has been hard at work so I was past due for getting out there and getting something done. Plans for my MKII car this year include an updated front end and steering system (Chris keeps telling me he doesn't want me upside down this year). So yesterday I stripped off the old front end and also removed the rear wheel and tire for a tire replacement. The rear tire was damaged in last years spin and flip accident.
Thursday evening I said goodbye to an old friend. Dennis Hart's Hawksbill Flyer has moved on to a new home. I gave the car to Dylan McCann, a teacher at a school in southeast Portland. The car will used as a project for the students to rebuild/reconstruct, and will be raced again in the Portland Adult Soapbox Derby. Plans at this point call for Dylan to handle the driving chores.

Zack, in that reference the "fastest lap" is the method used to break the tie for 5th place. Not necessarily the fastest lap of the race. I edited the post....

Original paint, green in color, looked like the paint could possibly be buffed out and look really good!
Once it was up on the roll back we were able to take a better look at it.
The bumpers and chrome trim were all there and in excellent condition!

Most legends are based on minimal facts that are embellished upon as the stories are repeated through the years, until the legend has become something of an epic exaggeration. Such is not the case with the legend of Goose's Pontiac GTO! Some of us have heard the rumours of Goose having an old Pontiac GTO stored away in a garage somewhere. I knew Goose for over 35 years and we never talked about his having a GTO. In fact I don't remember where or when I actually heard about the car. I don't even remember who told me about the car. As the story went he never drove the car, just had it tucked away, somewhere.
Well I can tell you now the legend was true! I met with Goose's son the day the car was removed from storage and taken away to start a new life! Here's some photos commemorating the event:
This is the garage the GTO was in for the last 38 or so years!
The padlocks were so rusty they had to be cut off with bolt cutters!
And when the door was opened, and the blankets taken off, there she was!

What an awesome day! We had over 40 people attend the open house and run some laps on the track. It was so nice to see everyone including some folks I hadn't seen for quite sometime. The last couple of weeks were quite hectic trying to get ready for this event, and those that had stopped by during that period seemed pretty shocked by the fact the track was ready to go (myself included)! But it did appear everyone was having a good time. I'd like to thank everyone that took the time to stop by, and thank those that brought food and snacks. A special thanks to Kirk Smith for building this track in the first place, and to Bob McFarland for allowing me to be the third caretaker of the track. And the BIGGEST THANKS to my fantastic wife Diane for helping me make this whole thing happen!
It took photos to get everyone included, some folks arrived after the photos were taken.
