YES!  More tracks are always welcome!

I really like routed tracks, but if plastic my preference would be  Scalextric or Carrera.

Odd Thursday Racing at TooBad Motorplex on June 27, 2013.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TERRY ABBOTT!!!

It was Terry's day, but did not turn out to be Terry's night for a win. He was however one strong contender all night long! The Hammer was back at the wheel of "Bruce" and laid down some scorching lap times! But Chris Kouba was the super star of the evening! Chris swept the first two races, and then supplied three beautiful 1/24 scale BRM Porsche 962s for the third race of the evening, an IROC style race. Chris was joined on the Winner's List by Bryan Dickerson who took the win in the very closely contested IROC race.

Here's the results:

Classic Sports Car Class:

1st Chris Kouba 48 laps
2nd Bill Bostic 47
3rd Monte Saager 47
4th Terry Abbott 46
5th Bryan Dickerson 46
6th Rico Locati 45
7th Dorothy Abbott 45
8th AJ Locati 40
9th Dennis Hart 40
10th Victoria Saager 38

GT Class:

1st Chris Kouba 56 laps
2nd Bill Bostic 53
3rd Monte Saager 51
4th Dorothy Abbott 51
5th AJ Locati 49
6th Bryan Dickerson 48
7th Terry Abbott 47
8th Dennis Hart 46
9th Rico Locati 32 - DNF

IROC 1/24 BRM Porsche 962 Race:

1st Bryan Dickerson 36 laps (2 min. heats)
2nd Rico Locati 36
3rd AJ Locati 36
4th Chris Kouba 36
5th Bill Bostic 35

Odd Thursday June 27, 2013.

Three new names added to the Winners List!

Chris Kouba for sweeping the first two races, and Bryan Dickerson for winning the IROC race with 1/24 BRM Porsche 962s supplies by Chris Kouba!

Here are the responses I've received to date regarding Odd Thursday Night Racing.

Preferences for Tuesday nights = 3,  Wednesday = 1,  Thursday = 4.

Unless I receive more feedback with preferences for another night, it looks like we will stick with Thursday nights.

-------------------------Bill

Thanks Smooth, that's exactly where I'm headed!

There has been some discussion regarding what would be the best night for racing at TooBad Motorplex in Fairview. Currently we race on odd date Thursday evenings. Tuesday and Wednesday evenings have both been suggested as better evenings for racing by more than one racer. I have no preference and will open the track up for whatever the majority prefers. If we make a change to a different evening, I will continue to use the odd dates for the races so the races are not every week. So, I would like to take a pole to see if anyone would prefer a different evening. If you are one of the racers currently racing on Odd Thursdays, or if you are interested in racing here at TooBad Motorplex in Fairview but haven't because Thursday evenings are not good for you, please let me know what weekday evening would be best for you.

Thanks!   --------------------Bill

Odd Thursday Racing for the 13th of June.

TooBad Motorplex saw a nice group of NASTE'rs show up for some Classic Sports Car and GT Class racing. Some tire testing took place during practice before the racing began. We did some testing with urethane tires made by Paul Gage in Canada. We tested tires with both the "XS" and "XPG" compounds. We found that the "XPG" compound seemed to work a little better on TooBad's latex painted track surface. The tires were tested on an MRRC Kellison and a Slot.It Nissan R390. With that said my Slot.It Ford GT40 was hooking up very well with the stock Slot.It tires in place. Go figure, last race the car was loose as a goose with the same set up! Paul Gage's tires can be found at his Ebay Store here: http://stores.ebay.com/Pauls-Slot-Car-S … 7675.l2563
I have purchased tires from Paul a few times. He is very good to deal with. I have never had any problems with my orders and he ships quickly.

The racing action for the night was fast and exciting. Tracy Flood posted a win in the Classic Sports Car Class with an excellent drive! Dorothy "The Hammer" Abbott had a great third place finish in the GT Class. She was flat tearing up the track! Thanks to everyone that was able to make it out!

The results:

Classic Sports Car Class:

1st Tracy Flood 47 laps
2nd Bill Bostic 46
3rd Bryan Trachsel 46 (w/ -2 lap handicap)

6th Gary "Howie" Howard 43
7th Dorothy Abbott 43
8th Beau Frazier 42
9th Russell Flood 42
10th Todd Flood 40
11th Thomas "The Chisel" Flood 39

Anybody looking for a carpool for Saturday's NASTE Carlo?   ----------------Bill

For some time I have been considering an open wheel F1 or Indy Car type of class to race here at TooBad Motorplex. After racing at the Hawksbill Station re-opening in Dennis Hart's Texas Whip Out race, I felt Dennis had come up with a concept that fit my vision of open wheel racing perfectly! To me the open wheel cars are the epitome of motorsports racing. The represent some of the fastest, cutting edge, no compromise racing cars built. Dennis' Texas Whip Out concept is where a slot car of that type fits the description. The rules will be simple,  the cars must be based on a 1/32 scale injection molded body of a F1 or Indy Car. You can use either a production type slot car chassis of any make, or scratchbuild your own. Cars must retain the proper wheel base and track width for the car, and must have four wheels/tires that touch and roll. Cars will be teched to make sure they do not drag or touch down hard parts to the track surface (.030 min. clearance is suggested). Any motor can be used, as well as any tire wheel combination, and any gears. This is pretty much an open class, so have at it.

I plan to run this class after the Classic Sports Cars and GT Class if there is any interest. If there's no interest it won't be run that evening. This class is basically for anyone who wants to stick around for some extra racing. These things should be fast and not for the faint of heart! Build them with no compromise, and no excuses!

I plan to have one ready to race for the June 13th race.   ---------------------------Bill

A group of NASTE racers ventured to Warren for the official re-opening of Hawksbill Station Thursday evening. Dennis Hart completely rebuilt Hawksbill Station into a FAST 4 lane Carrera track! Dennis set up 4 Slot.It LMP cars for an IROC style race to start the evening of racing. After the opening race we were treated to all kinds of food goodies. After we had chowed down we returned to the track for what Dennis called the "Texas Whip-out". Some of us took Dennis' announcement of this upcoming "Texas Whip-out" seriously! The initial announcement advised racers to bring "their fastest" cars out for this "race what you brung" race.  Flyin' Bryan and I had been down this road before, so we went back to the bottom of our race boxes and brought out some old dusty warriors. We were prepared!

Even before the drop of the green flag it was evident this Texas Whip-out was going to be 80 percent Texas Wipe-out!!! When the flag dropped so did the track laps records in every lane! There was crashin', bashin', and unbelievably close near misses!!! I have not laughed so hard in a ling time! This race was a total BLAST!!!

At the end of the night Dennis and Bryan were the big winners with Bryan setting a new track record with a 2.500 second lap. Just for reference the old record was 3.570 seconds.

A big thank you to Dennis and Charlotte for a fantastic evening of food and racing! I'm looking forward to more good times at Hawksbill Station!!!   ----------------Bill

So, I wanted to post something here to get everyone to take another look at this page. I was thinking maybe a fresh look at this page could give us ideas for next season, and maybe remind us of where we have been?

Last night our treasurer Bryan and I talked. The NASTE Club has quite a few bucks saved up. I'm thinkin' we should have some kind of event like a pizza feed or something to celebrate all the fun we have had in the last years. We could also use some of the money to buy awards or participation plaques for next year. Anybody got any ideas?

But more importantly, there are three racers who have achieved the status of 3 time NASTE Point Series Champions! Those racers are; Dave Smith (three-pete, 3 consecutive years, '05, '06, '07), John Bostic '98, '99, '08, and now Bryan Trachsel '09, '10, '13.

Will any of those racers put worth an effort to be the FIRST 4 time NASTE Champion?

I'm pretty sure Flyin' Bryan will be hard chargin' for 2014!!!

What a great race last night!!!

You gotta love Aurora's old Thunderjets!!!!

An how about those trucks? I want another go at them!!!

Terry & Dorothy were excellent race hosts! Fantastic food mixed with a great deal of fun. It was also nice to see some faces we haven't seen in awhile.

Lastly, CONGRATS to "Flyin' Bryan" Trachsel as the 2013 NASTE Point Series Champion (now a three time champion)!!!

Bryan Trachsel has this piece of table top from his old HO track layout. He would like to give this to a good home. It's almost 6' tall and 2.5' wide. It's set up for a four lane HO setup. The area where the track fits is recessed and Tomy track will lay down in it. This section of table top includes some beautiful landscaping work! It's absolutely free, just needs to be picked up by the 31st.

May 23rd Odd Thursday night at TooBad Motorplex.

So the usual eight battled it out tonight. The mission was to keep up with Flyin' Bryan. Thanks to the initiation of the "Flyin' Handicap Rule" we were all within sight of the leader for at least the Classic Sports Car race. Unfortunately for us seven, Bryan still killed us in the GT Class, even with the 2 lap handicap. Highlights included The Hammer blowing up a rear crown gear in the GT Class while driving Bruce, Bryan Dickerson taking a floor dive from the highest point on the track with his Ninco Corvette in the Classic Sports Car Class, and a sink hole developed at the treacherously fast curve now known as Petrolati Point. Bryan Trachsel completed the fastest lap of the night in the Classic Sports Car Class at 10.300 seconds. Dorothy "The Hammer" Abbott completed the overall fastest lap of the night in the GT Clas running a 9.283 second lap. Track voltage was set at 10 volts for tonight's race. Bryan's dominant win in the GT Class nets him an additional one lap handicap (for a total handicap of -3 laps) for the next race should he chose to compete in the GT Class with the same Slot.It Porsche 962. Bryan's handicap of -2 will remain the same in the Classic Sports Car Class for his Aston Martin. Bryan says he is up for the challenge! I'm not sure about everyone else, but I had a really good time!

The results:

Classic Sports Car Class:

1st Terry Abbott 47 laps
2nd Tracy Flood 47
3rd Greg Petrolati 47
4th Bryan Trachsel 47 (w/ -2 lap handicap)
5th Bill Bostic 47
6th Bryan Dickerson 45
7th Dorothy Abbott 42
8th Monte Saager 41

GT Class:

1st Bryan Trachsel 53 laps (w/ -2 lap handicap)
2nd Greg Petrolati 51
3rd Bryan Dickerson 51
4th Monte Saager 51
5th Bill Bostic 50
6th Tracy Flood 50
7th Dorothy Abbott 49
8th Terry Abbott 45

Thank you Dorothy. Great photos & video!!!!

That's OK Rico. Racin' was kind of like the softball double header....

Good news is we had a pinch racer for you. Bad news is you lost..........

See you soon!!!!

May 9th & another Odd Thursday evening of racing.

Seven racers made it out tonight for some warm racing (warm in the garage, not on the track!). Bryan Trachsel took the top podium spot in both classes (yes again), despite being assessed a one lap handicap in each class! What do we have to do to beat this guy? Well for the next Odd Thursday race he will be assessed a two lap handicap if he chooses to race the same cars in their respective classes. Bryan says he will be back and up to the challenge!

The results:

Classic Sports Car Class:

1st Bryan Trachsel 46 laps (w/ -1 lap handicap)
2nd Monte Saager 46
3rd Tracy Flood 46
4th Bryan Dickerson 45
5th Terry Abbott 43
6th Dorothy Abbott 42
7th Bill Bostic 42

GT Class:

1st Bryan Trachsel 55 laps (w/ -1 lap handicap)
2nd Dorothy Abbott 51
3rd Bill Bostic 50
4th Tracy Flood 49
5th Bryan Dickerson 49
6th Terry Abbottt 47
7th Monte Saager 45

After the "official" racing was over we were visited by some of my neighbors. I think they were pretty sure something illegal was going on in the garage of that white house! We assured them we were on the up & up, and then got their kids dialed in for some racing action. So don't be surprised if we have some additional racers for the next Odd Thursday. I think the word may be out, and we may be running a kid's division. Thanks everyone, I had a great time!
