A big 'ol Naste thank you Randy and Myrna for hosting Round 3 last night. What a great time and some super close racing with I'm sure a tie or two. The cars were challenging as was trying not to eat too much.
Thanks again

Did you go to Slotcar Illustrated? If not, try here: http://www.slotcarillustrated.com/porta … hp?t=44831
Most people don't run a RTR, but a good choice to start with would be Ninco Classics like the Porsche 356, Jag XK-120 or Ferrari Testarossa.
I hope this helps.

I would agree with Monte, the IPS would be a good start since this years is on the last round and a new one should get going after New Years. I did stumble across a new one getting started yesterday for Slot.it cars. It would be open cockpit, short wheelbase cars: Ferrari 312PB, Alfa 33/3, and Chaparral 2E. Here's a link for more info: http://www.slotcarillustrated.com/porta … ost449423.

Actually the next Naste race is Nov 20 at Monte's, unfortunately I will be at a wedding and will miss it. You might find it easier to make one of his first Sunday events. They start at 1:00 and end around 4:00 leaving you more time for travelling before and after.

Regrettably I am going to have to miss the race this year as family obligations I cannot escape from have come up. Please feel free to have fun without me as I will be stuck with my brother-in-law, possibly the world's biggest tool.

What a hoot, thanks Jeff for another fine evening of entertainment. Now, what to create for Halloween, definitely something faster than the Batmobile. Hmmm, I do have that NSR 40K motor taking up space....

Join? Show up at the next race and JOIN the fun and excitement, simple as that. The next and 1st race of the new season is at Jeff Courtney's in NE Portland (60th & Alberta). There is a picture of the track in the Tracks link on the Naste Home page. Cars and controllers are furnished, Jeff usually provides some form of "flexi chassis" with various bodies.

Re: Winter 2011 Season ideas for a class of cars to run. (10 replies, posted in BSCC)
Some more testing news. I broke out the Dremel and did a little surgery to the Schiesser car. I ground the slot bigger on the bottom of the interior so the motor pod no longer made contact. Next, I slightly enlarged the screw pockets on the bottom of the chassis and took a sharp Exacto and enlarged the screw holes as well. The pod was still a little tight so I filed the pod opening until the pod moved free. I installed the pod and then backed the screws off 1 turn and then it was off to the track.
I could tell right away the car was quieter, smoother and less twitchy. After a few more laps the lap times had dropped to the 5.5 range, so I pushed just a little harder and was rewarded with a 5.45. So, in conclusion with just a little work the old and the new chassis are capable of running equal lap times. This should correlate to the old and new versions of the Jag as well. I believe they are also coming out with a new version chassis for the Sauber so the same tricks should work on the old versions of those too.

Re: Winter 2011 Season ideas for a class of cars to run. (10 replies, posted in BSCC)
Ok, I did some testing tonight between the old version Schiesser 956KH and the new TicTac 962KH. First they were both set up the same with a single mag in the front position, same adjustment of pod and body screws and both had Slot.it P6 tires on the rear. At first they ran nearly identical lap times but the harder you pushed the newer car ended up being faster. The old version had a best lap time of 5.60 and the new version had a 5.45. Not a huge difference and I think with a few tweaks the older car could keep up. One of the problems corrected in the new cars is that the pod hits the interior on one side limiting movement in that direction. The new cars have a redesigned interior that could be swapped in or I have just taken a Dremel to the bottom of the interior to make some additional clearance. The other difference is in the pockets for the motor pod screws with the newer car having more movement in the form of larger pockets. Once again the chassis can be swapped out or the existing pockets carefully enlarged with a Dremel.
Hope this helps

I think Randy is leaning towards the Slot.it P6 rubber tire as the spec tire.
My choices would be options 2 or 3 but a preference for 3 as more options is usually better. As far as the EVO chassis, I have both and can do some testing to see if there is any kind of measurable difference between the two.

It was really nice to have a good turn out for the race today including some new racers to the Point although it's not prudent to call Dave a new racer, just new to the Point. Victoria, the food was excellent and paired with Dorothy's sweets I didn't even eat dinner tonight- YUM. Thank you all for another fun Sunday and it's was fun embarrassing Monte for his birthday, I never knew he was so shy....
Oh, and the racing was great too and very close, slots o' fun.

Re: Ok, it happened again... (9 replies, posted in BSCC)
After the race last night I thought I'd see what everyone thought about these situations as well as offer my opinions - freely and gladly.
Cars that don't start at the start of a heat
I think cases were the cars don't leave the start line at the start of a heat for a reason other than the car wasn't in the slot is cause for a re-start. We're not really running for pink slips here and miscues can happen. In my case last night, my controller failed to work for some so far unknown reason. Other times it has been someone didn't hook the controller up right, the car was in the wrong lane, someone didn't know they were up and so forth. I think everyone should get their fair shot.
After they leave the line, anything goes.
I have no problem waiting a little longer or restarting the heat, after all it's just for the fun of it.
Which brings me to the second item:
Cars that stop running during a heat
We've all been there. A wheel comes off. A wire comes loose. A gear strips. Myriad possibilities here. I'm not sure the proper answer is to reach into the box for another car. I think the car you start with should have to be fixed or retired. And that IS racing. And car preparation. As well as luck. But to reach for another car seems like cheating those that can't or don't feel like affording or bringing multiple cars to an event. We've all done it, I've never felt good about it.
Like you I have mixed feelings about this topic. Maybe we could try this approach, minor repairs such a loose wire, wheels etc are to be repaired with whatever time/laps are lost. If the damage is more permanent such a broken chassis or a smoked motor then a replacement car could be used with a penalty attached, say 20 laps or whatever is agreed upon.
And my third topic is:
Ties - what to do
Nobody likes them but what's a fair tie-breaker? Or does there need to be one. Last night we had a 3-way tie for 4th. The tie was broken by fast lap time. Worked well for me but that's just luck. Might as well time who had the longest off. We've also had run-offs. My choice would be to award a tie and give them all the same points. They all ran the same laps. The guy with the fastest lap probably had the slowest too. And of course the average would be... well, the same. So I would vote that a tie is a tie.
There are no ties is 1:1 racing that are left unresolved, it is racing and there has to be a winner and a loser. It is just comes with the territory.
Next up...
Lane Stickers
How can you not have a lane sticker on your car at the start of a heat? Someone needs to make a check at the start of a heat. It can happen for many reasons. Or worse yet, the wrong colored lane sticker. Perhaps we need to move away from the timed segment between heats and instead just hit the start button when everyone and everything is ready.
It is kind of rushed most of the time, if we added another 30 seconds betwen rounds it would only add a few minutes to the nights racing, certainly not a deal breaker for me.
Thanks Randy!
Since the junior member of the Stumman team has mostly given up the slot hobby in favor of girls and cars if I remember my teens, Randy is pretty much doing this for us. It's a nice track and a friendly environment. It's great to have a nice place to go play on a regular basis. So I just want to say thanks. I really appreciate it.
I agree wholeheartedly, thank you Randy.
