Zack
Zack, "Big NASCAR" in Pelican Park terms does not refer to "big wheels". I'm not exactly sure why they refer to it as "Big NASCAR". The times I raced there with Bob, John, and Stuart we raced our OSCAR cars.
Pelican Park Speedway Big NASCAR Rules:
To provide continuity, construction ease, low cost control, and effective tech management, chassis development is limited to scratch built brass 90 degree in-line motor-gear mounting, utilizing stock, unaltered Parma 16D or Pro-Slot 2002 stock motors.
Chassis must at all times maintain a minimum of .055" track clearance. All tires shall be black, be no less than 3/4" diameter, and all must touch and roll.
Tires /rims shall not protrude more than 1/16" outside the plane of the wheel openings at any time when viewed from above. The plane of a wheel opening is located at the narrowest point on the fender when viewed from directly above. Guide flags shall not protrude beyond the plane of the nose when viewed from directly above.
No body mods, channeling, chopping, or body widening, or adding fender valences are allowed, and the body shall be stock thickness. Body configuration and roofline must be production stock. Front and rear windows supplied with the kit must be installed, though side windows may not be.
Entire heads of driver figures (injected or resin mold) must appear higher than the lower window frame, A Cockpit or cabin tray concealing the entire chassis is required, and for open cockpit cars where the prototype carried one, a roll bar must be installed.
All cars should bear race numbers and other markings reflecting prototype appearances.
NASCAR stock cars run with Parma Super 16-D motors to compensate for their additional weight of 9 to 10 ounces, about 1 to 2 ounces more than sports or GTO cars.
PPS/GCR - Rules for Big Nascar • The Rest ...
• Big NASCAR :1980 to the present,
Cup Cars - Winston, Sprint, Nationwide, Nextel, Busch, COT series cars .
(Must use Super-16 motors.)
In addition to the Boilerplate Rules at the beginning of this book that all cars/classes must honor, these specific rules apply to all cars raced at Pelican Park in the Big Nascar class.
• Wheel openings - may not be modified in any way .
• Wheel arch requirements - With the body appropriately mounted to the chassis with a .055” track clearance, the highest point of the rear wheel arches must be a minimum of .900” (29/32”) above the track surface, and the highest point of the front wheel arches are a minimum of 1.0” above the track surface. In order to meet the wheel arch rules (above), a body may be raised, lowered, or the rake adjusted by altering the bottom edge (“rocker panel”) of the body between the wheel openings. If the wheel arches are legal after the above mentioned rocker-panel alterations but the front spoiler or the rear valance below the bumper are touching the track, the spoiler and/or the rear valance may be trimmed to meet the .055” clearance.
• Windows – The front, rear, and rear-side windows supplied with the model kit must be installed. The passenger-side main window and the driver’s side window netting are not required to be mounted in place. Excess window plastic may be trimmed off.
The “original” rules for Big Nascar state this:
“There are certain legal bodies that will not meet the minimum height at the wheel openings described above even though they are completely un-altered. Such bodies may be raced, but must remain unaltered with respect to the lower edge of the body between the wheel openings.” Check with the group of 3 to clarify.
