I'm going to paint the track with the same paint and color John Powers used on his track in Auburn Washington. My thought is cars can be set up on either track with racers being able to expect similar handling characteristics at either track. Maybe we can get some interstate races going?

I actually washed the Vette a couple weeks ago! We've had it out to dinner a couple times since then.

So, only two joints left to Bondo and sand.....

I also got the glazing putty down today on all the smaller imperfections in the joints I already had Bondo'd & sanded...

Almost ready for the first coat of primer!!!!    ----------------------------Bill

Sunday September 26th. Still applying Bondo to the joints and holes. There are a total of 12 joints in the track running surface. Of the 12 I have 7 Bondo'd and sanded. There are very few small holes to fill, probably less than a dozen, and I have most of those done. The joints fit together very well, and I'm sure the cars would run fine without filling and sanding the seams, but I want no regrets when I look back on my finished product.

So at what point does striving for perfection become anal retentive??????   -------------------------Bill

I am planning to put in an order for more NASTE T-Shirts.

Last time I just ordered a small selection of different sizes.

T-Shirts are $17.99.

I get them from this site: http://www.inkpixi.com

Let me know if you would like a specific size, or more than one shirt ordered.

Got some Bondo laid down and sanded today...........

Measured the lap length; left lane = 84 feet 7 1/4 inches

                                    center lane = 84 feet 7 7/8 inches

                                    right lane = 84 feet 8 1/4 inches

Wish I could take credit for great engineering design, but it was just dumb luck!!!!!    -------------------------------------Bill

I'm with you Mike on the adjustable power supply. I think that's the way to go, especially for the 1/32 cars. And in my opinion, overkill is ideal!!!!

I promise this will be my last post on this topic because I am just not involved and it is really no issue for me. But since the comment was raised regarding restarts and no other races around here use a restart process, I will say that NASTE does and has used restarts on many occasions (i.e. dead car at start or more than half the field crashing in the first turn). If we do call a restart we typically only allow one restart for any heat race.

I would like to say that one of the things that makes racing slot cars fun for me is the car preparation and the feeling I get when I know my car is ready to race an event, and when the car successfully completes the race without any issues. If I come to the track with two cars, I can guarantee you each car is fully prepared and equally as good! To me that IS a big part of racing! To Randy's credit he pointed out to me that is not his vision or priority for BSCC. I understand and respect that so I have decided to pursue other venues.

BSCC has a great track to race on, and great people to race with. Randy is an excellent host. I have had a lot of fun racing with BSCC in the past. However it is frustrating for me to come to any race where I am racing a car I prepared myself to compete, and during the course of that event another racer can just throw on another car and continue if he has problems.  To me that is the difference between racing and just playing with slot cars.

All said with respect, kindness, and no offense given or taken.

I know it may not be appropriate for me to wade in on this topic since I don't race at BSCC, but I would like to clarify one thing. Although it is true that "most real race teams have backup cars too" NOWHERE in ANY type of auto racing have I seen or heard where you can replace your entire car after the race has begun, for any reason! In REAL racing you fix the problem, or you are DONE!

I can also see the contradiction in allowing a racer to replace his car if it quits running and not allowing a restart if a car fails to leave the start line of the race. And really, how much of a "rhythm" is a racer actually in before the completion of the first lap????   ---------------Bill

Here's Dave's email address Mike: dmshobbyworld@yahoo.com

There are photos of the track Dave built here: http://www.naste.org/naste_site/

look under "Even More Photos". Dave's Mineral Springs Raceway is in the first 7 photos.

Last I heard Dave's track was for sale in McMinnville for $150!!!! What a steal!!!

Dave's track was similar in design to my routed HO track. Both tracks were roughly designed after a larger 1/32 track we raced on years ago at Lee Dundas'.

I don't know what the lane spacing was on Dave's track, but I used 3 1/2" on the track I am currently building. In part because I want the option of being able to run narrow 1/24 scale cars in addition to 1/32 cars.

As far as slot depth, I just make sure it is deep enough for a 1/24 commercial track style of guide flag (i.e. a Parma guide flag). I use the 1/24 guide flag to set the router bit depth.

You are absolutely correct. You can build a nice three lane track on a single 4 X 8. If you incorporate an overpass you can have  a nice layout in that small amount of space. Check SCI again in the routed wood track forums for some ideas...

Cool Mike. I haven't tried the 1/43 Carreras, but I have some 1/43 SCX cars and they work great. They are available at Target stores in pairs around here. They are a terrific buy! Let us know how the Carreras work!   --------Bill

I can identify with that Mike!

My wife is great, but I fully understand that the garage is my space for my stuff! I'm just lucky I have a good sized garage. .....but as I see it, it could always be bigger.................my wife has a slightly different view.....

I uploaded more photos of the track construction onto the Slot-Tech Gallery. These new photos will bring you up to date on my progress.

Time for bondo and primer now!    --------------------------Bill

I'm not really sure if the glue or silicon would hold well enough to store the track on its side.

What about those plastic mirror hanging brackets you can buy for mounting large mirrors to a wall or door. The kind that uses one screw and the plastic overlaps the sides of the mirror by about 3/8 inch?

Your project may take some experimentation....

Have you tried the Slot Car Illustrated (SCI) Forum for any suggestions?  ------------------------------Bill

Hey Mike. Although I have not had any experience with Ninco track, you might try using a few spots of hot glue, or maybe use silicon caulking to hold it in place.

YES, we will have a race on October 16th. At this point I do not have a track scheduled but I will have one scheduled soon. Looking forward to meeting you Mike!

So, who wants the October 16th race date?     ----------------Bill

Hi Mike. I've been taking more photos along the way, but I haven't updated the series of photos and details I have already posted. I'll try to get the photos updated this weekend. I should have all the support structure completed by then so you can actually see some results!

Thanks for your interest Mike!   ---------------------Bill

I'm with ya Monte....There's about a hundred bodies listed under Vintage Sports/ GT cars. I'm not sure if they have developed any specific rules yet?

LARRY - HELP????

Not that anyone will notice.............almost done with the support structures for the elevations and overpass....

This track has been quite a project so far! Unlike anything I have built before....
