FLY LOLAs -
After last night's point series race I pulled out the old Fly Lolas. I had planned a second round of racing with the Lolas, but due to the number of entries we ran a little late. For the racers that wanted to stick around we ran a non-points race with the Lolas. I had done some work on the cars earlier in the day and they seemed to perform much better than the last time we raced them. For those of you that remember, I had set the cars up for magnet-free racing with a little weight added, Slot.It running gear, and Slot.It tires. The big issue had been a total lack of rear grip. Well, by the time we raced them last night either the cool track surface, or the tires being in a cooler temperature put us back to the same level of performance. In other words they handled like crap!.........AGAIN! The good news is we managed to break the guide flag mount on two of the three cars, so I probably won't bother with these cars again! After all, you can't make chicken salad out of chicken crap!
BUT, we did manage to complete the race and here are the results:
1st Bryan Trachsel 31.7 laps
2nd Bill Bostic 31.1
3rd Terry Abbott 30.9
4th Dave Smith 30.3
5th Randy Word 29.9
6th Dorothy Abbott 28.9
7th Jeff Wilson 28.3
8th-T Sherry Wilson 26.5
8th-T Scott Fleener 26.5
10th Cody Underhill 26.3
11th Jimmy Jones 25.8
12th Chelsea Wilson 25.0
13th Elliot Word 24.8
Even the crappy cars resulted in some pretty close racing!!!!
I really had a good time tonight!
Thank you all for coming out to race!

You gotta claim that one buddy!!!!!
List updated from Oct. 3 race.
Here's a couple of photos of Beau Frazier's scratchbuilt Corvette.
October 3rd - Odd Thursday Night Racing.
We had seven entries in both classes. The Classic Sports Car Class entries consisted of one scratchbuilt car, two Ninco Corvettes, a Ninco Jaguar, and a Ninco AC Cobra, one Revell/Monogram King Cobra, and one MRRC Kellison. The racing was very close with four racers on the same lap less than ten feet apart. Gary "Goose" Gossett posted another win with his Ninco Corvette. The GT Class results were nearly as tight. Of particular interest was Beau Frazier's scratchbuilt Corvette which posted a third place finish, less than a full lap behind the leaders. Beau's brass chassis beauty utilizes NSR running gear. I expect this will not be Beau's last trip to the podium with this Vette! Monte Saager took first in the GT Class with his Scale Auto Toyota.
The Results:
Classic Sports Car Class:
1st Gary "Goose" Gossett 48 laps
2nd Tracy Flood 46
3rd Greg Petrolati 45
4th Beau Frazier 44
5th Monte Saager 44
6th Howie Howard 44
7th Bill Bostic 44
GT Class:
1st Monte Saager 54 laps
2nd Bill Bostic 54
3rd Beau Frazier 53
4th Greg Petrolati 51
5th Tracy Flood 51
6th Gary "Goose" Gossett 50
7th Howie Howard 48
Smooth, I can't commit quite yet, but it sounds like a good time! I'll pencil it in but will have to see how it goes.............. --------------Bill

Rico, Thank you for hosting last night's race. I still love racing the Fickle Fiats! The food Kelly made us was fantastic as usual. AJ was just plain outrageous posting a win in each race! Maybe next time you could have him "beer up" before the race?

Sept. 19, 2013 Odd Thursday Night Racing. A nice evening with six racers in attendance made for some fun low key racing. The Classic Sports Car field consisted of three Ninco Corvettes, an MRRC Cheetah, and one Ninco Porsche 550. It was a very close race with first and second place finishing nose to tail (less than a car length). The GT CLass cars were very fast with the winner posting 58 total laps. The field was made up of three Slot.It cars, a Scaleauto Toyota, and two Ninco Moslers. We also had time to get in some quality bench racing, Scrabble time (although technically it was Upwords...), and general B.S'in. It was a very enjoyable evening! Thank you to all that made it out!
The results:
GT Class:
1st Bill Bostic 58 laps
2nd Monte Saager 55
3rd Gary "Goose" Gossett 54
4th Tracy Flood 52
5th Terry Abbott 52
6th Victoria Saager 44
Classic Sports Car Class:
1st Gary "Goose" Gossett 48 laps
2nd Bill Bostic 47
3rd Tracy Flood 47
4th Terry Abbott 45
5th Monte Saager 44
List updated from Sept. 19 race.
Posted for Dennis Hart at Hawksbill Station:
Yee Haw!
Congratulations to Bill Bostic for his winning of the First Annual Billy Bob 300 NASCAR International Race of Champions held last nite at the challenging Hawksbill Station Raceway in beautiful rural Warren. Bill completed 307 laps followed by Tracy Flood with 297 and Monte Saager in 3rd with 283 before a crowd of four enthusiastic spectators ( Tim, Victoria, Charlotte & Lilly ). Actually, I was surprised anyone showed up in the heat and not surprised that the races did not get started until 8 as it required going up to the warm shop attic.
Speaking for myself, it was a good learning experience resulting in some changes at Hawksbill. Firstly, non-magnet racing is a non-starter here. There is simply no way to keep a car without them in the slot on those heavily banked Carrera turns. Be advised to put a magnet in any car you plan on racing. There are many other ways to level the playing field. Secondly, in the future, I am asking those who wish to eat dinner here ( our pleasure ) to kindly RSVP for such at least two days in advance. Of course, you are always welcome for snacks and drinks provided for you and all guests without an RSVP. Hospitality - yes! Waste - no, thank you. Along that same line, certificates for winning will be made up and presented at the following race or mailed at your request. Minimum of three people in a racing class for awards.
Next race event here will feature two separate events. First, a short "Texas Whip Out" ( ANY car ) sprint of 2 minutes in each lane followed by a 200 lap GT/LMP qualified IROC of 50 laps ( not minutes ) in each lane. Date and specifics to follow. Not to complain, but a slightly better turnout would be nice ( Its just as far from there to here as from here to there ). Also, I honestly appreciate any suggestion or idea that might make racing here more attractive to you. Thanx.
With Warmest ( no kidding ) Regards,
- Dennis
P.S. - I'm planning to live forever.
So far. so good !
Nothin' like those last minute pit road modifications!
Racing is always exciting at Hawksbill, but last night's NASCAR race was wild!
Thanks to Dennis & Charlotte for a fun evening with great food as usual!!!!

We discussed the possibility of a NASTE race this season. Chris' work schedule is a moving target right now, but the prospects sounded pretty good to me. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!!
Last night I had the pleasure to run some laps on Chris Kouba's track in Oregon City. Chris' track is an MDF routed 3 lane, with nice elevation changes. I would call this a short track, but Chris designed it to allow racing of 1/24 cars as well as 1/32 cars. Short tracks are nothing new to me, and I have run and raced on quite a few different ones. I will say that Chris' track is the best 1/24 short track I have ever run on, both in terms of layout design and function. This track is an absolute blast! It is surprisingly fast once you get the rhythm down, but still very challenging and FUN! If you get an opportunity to run at Chris' don't pass it up! Thanks for a terrific evening of racing Chris! -----------------------------Bill
Hey y'all,
Check out this great video terry Abbott posted on You Tube. It pretty much sums up what NASTE is all about!!!!
Thanks Terry!!!
Check out the new photos in the "Gallery" section. Race No.1 is covered in "NASTE 2014 Racing Season".
Thanks to Bryan and Sherry for hosting the opening race of the season. The food was great and the racing was extremely close! The format for grouping amateurs together for their own race seemed to be popular. We will continue to work to refine the process.
Congrats to Tracy on his second place finish - NICE RUN !!!

Thank you Dorothy. The video and photos came out great! ----------------Bill

Odd Thursday Night Racing at TooBad Motorplex on September 5th.
Wet, windy, and cooler tonight for a change. Eleven racers made it out for some laps. My Granddaughter Cailin was visiting, so I reversed the order of the classes from how we usually race so she could race in the GT Class (Papa Track Owner Executive Privilege Rule - established 9/5/2013). Chris Kouba supplied a field of 1/24 BRM Porsches for an IROC race to close out the evening. However the race was cut short because we brutally abused the cars and broke the guide flags on two of them. We apologize Chris! Thank you for your patience and understanding, not to mention your generosity!
All in all another fun night of racing! Thank you to all that came out!
