I think they'll work fine John. If necessary you can always turn them down a little.

Thanks Goose!
We will have IROC controllers. The doors officially open at 5:00 pm, but I'd like to get there just a little early to help Bob get things set up. How about we meet here at my place around 4:00 pm?

Monte, Victoria and I made a trip over to Bob's on Saturday morning for a little testing. The testing went well and Bob's track is a lot of fun! Bob's track is in a room he designed and decorated just for the track and racing. The race on the 20th will be exciting!
Don't forget, this will be a POT LUCK event!
See y'all on the 20th!!!! ===============Bill

I inserted your photo for you Mitch.
That looks like a K&B or Aurora chassis to me. Although I don't think I've seen one that color before. All the ones I have seen were just bare aluminum. That one looks like it might be anodized?
Sure looks like it's in excellent shape!

I'm going on Amazon to see about buying a drone with an infrared camera to position over your place so I can find out how you are setting up your cars, and monitor how much practice time you're puting in!!!

Odd Thursday Night on Decemeber 11, 2014.
First off, what wind???? Just the typical east county gusts here in Fairview!
We had seven racers for the evening, including one newcomer, Jeff Fields. We raced hard and heavy through the three usual classes of cars, then proceeded to bench race late into the night. I think I enjoy the bench racing just as much as the track racing! Must be because I'm an old guy!
Gary "Goose" Gosset was in top form and flew by us all for the wins in EVERY class! Well except for the Historic F1, only because he wasn't racing one! Jeff Fields placed first in the Historic F1 division. Rumors were also flying about bringing back the handicap rule. But I think it's just time for the rest of us to step up our game (pun inteneded). Next race I'm loadin' for goose!
Bring it on my feathered friend!!!
Results:
Classic Sports Car Class:
1st Gary Goose Gossett 52.5 laps
2nd Bryan Dickerson 50.1
3rd Mitch Brooks 49.1

4th Jeff Fields 45.0 - 1st Historic Division
5th Mitch Brooks 43.9
6th John Fisher 43.6

The next NASTE race is Saturday December 20th at Bob Nakamura's track in Troutdale. A NEW track to race on! Bob's track is a very nice Scalextric 4 lane track with computer timing and lap counting. Like all NASTE Point Series Races the cars and controllers will be provided for the racers.
Food for the event will be pot luck style, so please bring some kind of dish along. Feel free to post what you're planning to bring here. Bob will have water, soft drinks, and coffee on hand.
Doors open at the usual time, 5:00pm. The entrance to the track is at the rear of Bob's house. Access is around the left side of the house.
If you need Bob's address shoot me an email or give me a call.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday the 20th! ==========Bill

Re: On the Horizon (60 replies, posted in Too Bad Motorplex)
What I'm thinking at this point Rico is; no alterations to the stock chassis. At 10 volts my Classic chassied car runs smooth without any added weight. I believe the motor to be stock, so you'll probably just have to test it out. Go ahead and leave the weight in for now and test it out next time you're over here. Those weight set ups Larry made are easily removed. I don't think they will be necessary at the lower voltage on my shorter track. We'll have to try it out and see.
My intent is to race these cars as they were designed to be raced when they were first introduced back in the early sixties. I do not want to try to modify them to make them better than they were initially. This way collector cars can be raced without destroying their actual or sentimental value. I see no point in modifying these old cars, as there are many other options for racing cars with superior performance.

Hey Goose, I tried some of the old silicone tires today. The ones I tried were the really wide type, like the candies with the plastic wheels. They seemed to hook up well, but they didn't allow any slide in the corners. Seemed to make the car want to tip or just go straight at the corners. The tire diameter of all the cars I tested today were 1 1/8 inch. I tested Cox, Classic, K&B, and a Dynamic chassis car. I am not opposed to using 1 inch as the minimum outside diameter. We'll do some more tire inspections when guys bring their old cars over. Thanks for the input Goose!!!

Re: On the Horizon (60 replies, posted in Too Bad Motorplex)
Completed a little testing today. 36D motors run very well at 10 volts. KTM or Kemtron motors also seem to have plenty of power at 10 volts. K&B motors are slow and week at 10 volts. Most of the old style slot cars were made to run on large commercial tracks with long straights. All the ones I have seem to be geared for that type of track. Some re-gearing may enhance their performance....
More testing to follow..........
