Hey guys, I just got my McLaren M8d back from the Can Am proxy. Car is in fantastic shape, other than a missing mirror and fender fin.

I have built a number of these for club member but I thought someone might still be needing one.

Mods:
Chassis flattened and trimmed for float.
Pod flattened, trimmed, bushings glued, Motor Glued, installed using SCC urethane washers and Nyloc hardware.
Aluminum front wheels with Trued tires, coated
14.3x10 Thunderslot rear wheels and tires
NSR Shark 22 motor
Body clearance for float and front tire clearance
Professor motor guide flag w/SCC braid
Brass body screw in front
Brass axle height screws up front

Currently numbered 18, has number 5 underneath the sticker.

This car placed 5th overall in the proxy and has ran as low as a 6.2s lap at Al's.

$55 obo, might trade for something interesting.

I am very much looking forward to building a car during the clinic we have setup on the 11th of the month. Before we had done that I had purchased a couple bodies and sent them to Jersey John (a pretty well known Retro chassis builder) to have something custom built up for the rules.

I am using the Betta and Classic Porsche 917/30 body. I also had a Dennis Samson make me a custom set of his front ball bearing wheels for the car, so it could have a fixed axle. This is what he came up with, needless to say I am excited to see how she chooches.

I thought I would put a thread in he events section here instead of the individual track forums, since this is a traveling series. I would be nice for later reference to have all the pictures and results in one thread.

I got my car all ready to go, and went over to Bill's yesterday for an hour or so to make sure she is all running properly. The Sloting plus took even more shimming of the pans and front suspension to get them flush with the chassis. It took much longer than I wanted to get this thing together, but I am happy with how it runs. With some weight tuning it was handling great, even geared a bit tall for Checkered Flag Raceway.

Thanks for letting me do some laps Bill!

Sounds like a plan, although I have a horse in the race so I can come corner marshal.

These are wicked fast cars, so some experienced drivers would be a bonus!

Sounds good Zach. I might need to take you up on that loaner offer. I ordered a 14k motor, but I keep changing my mind on which car to try and build for the Classic 1. On a bright note, I picked up a DTM and LMP car from Bill for the upcoming races.

Sweet dude!

You are gonna be set up in no time!

Works good. Running it for a good while with toothpaste can take care of a lot with little risk.

Keep asking questions Tom!

Hi,
I'm the new guy that started this disruption. I was just asking dumb questions (again) and stepped on another land mine! I sincerely apologize for rocking the boat and hope (but doubt) that it will be the last time.

Tom, don't feel bad. This is exactly why the discussions need to happen, when we race every week with the same group it is easy to lose sight of making it easy for the new guy! It is however, important that we take this into consideration with classing.

As we have discussed, classic 1 is difficult to get a "budget" car going. That said, I do have a spare if you should need it for the next race!

Zack

I am fine with what you proposed Bill. I think continuity of the rules is important for both new and old members. We don't have to reinvent the wheel and have multiple cars for a class because of changing rulesets.

For me, the ONLY reason I am running the podded chassis on my Fly ferrari is because I paid 40 dollars for it that way. I don't see any real advantage of my car over Al or Doc's cars, they both turn laps right there with mine.

In the end, the racing in this class has been very close if I am not mistaken....Why change?

Zack

I raced a gt40 once, realised it wasnt within the spirit of competition and built something new.

Moving the year back would work....

I would just go for saying any model of gt40 is not allowed in sportscar 1. Competitive cars for this class are always going to be somewhat challenging/expensive. Leaving it as open as possible model wise makes sense. Just exclude the clear dominate outlyer.

Zack

There are a lot more possible cars to race in this class if you allow the chassis to be changed. All front motor cars etc will need this to compete.

Those are all gonna have pods. Mine is screwed and glued, yet Al has a car just as fast as mine. The pods arent the problem prep level is.

Just exclude the GT40, as we talked about. Simple.

Zack

I'm looking forward to it Bob, I almost got my car together!

NSR MOSLER w/sidewinder is a sure bet if you don't want a legit LMP!

Fun races last night guys. Glad to be back at Al's place!

Also good to see Mark and new guy Tom out there!

Zack, your "A" car was really fast, one of the fastest on the track. Al was running some really good lap times by the end of the race. Had he had more experience on the track I know he would have finished higher with that car. The only times I was able to keep up with him was when he had an "off".

That is good to hear. He told me it was faster than he was!

Glad he made it out to run.

Zack

Looks like a great time! I hope to make the next one!

Zack

Hey guys, I can't make this weekend's race as I will be in Indy for the PRI trade show.

I do however have 2 NASCAR's ready to race, I will be sending these home with Bill this week to be used as loaners. He also said that Bob may have a loaner car.

Rico, Al, and Doc have all expressed interest.

If you have any questions about using one or what is involved, you can email me anytime @ Zack@preracing.com. Otherwise Bill will be my proxy for the weekend and can loan them out etc. as he sees fit!

I hope to see a huge turnout, and am sorry I had to miss this one.

They run Miniz classes with Plafit chassis and stuff a lot overseas. Would be cool, but again not sure we need more right now....
