OK guys I'm old and can't remember......
Are Ford GT40s still eligible for the Classic Sports Car Div.I Class?
Wikipedia shows production years from 1964 to 1969.
"The Ford GT40 was first raced in May 1964 at the Nürburgring 1000 km race where it retired with suspension failure after holding second place early in the event.
Assembly: United Kingdom: Slough (Mk I, Mk II, ...
Successor: Ford P68 (racing heritage); Ford GT ...
Manufacturer: Ford Advanced Vehicles; John ...
Production: 1964-1969; 105 produced"
If I remember we said no to the gto40 in class 1
If that is a fact we need a revision to the rules. As I see it right now the first GT40s were produced in 1964 and the written rules do not list it as illegal for the class.
when we had our talk about rules 1965 was the cut off for class 1 and at that time it was thought that the 1st race for the gt40 was in 65, with that said the rules do say to 1964. so it legal to run then. would not be right to change rules in the middle of the points. unless there is 100% across the club that we say no...
I thought the point of the rules change was to create a class where the GT-40 was not the dominate car but I COULD be mistaken.
You are correct. Se have other classes where the GT40 can be a winner.
Just for clarification. I too thought the rule changes were to equal the playing field between various eligible cars, not to eliminate the Ford GT40 in the Classic Sports Car Div.I class. With the change to the slower H&K 14 k motor chassis competence becomes less of a factor in a cars competitiveness. All things considered with the slower motors the performance of the various car types should tighten up.
With that said was the actual goal to eliminate the GT40s from competition in Classic Sports Car Div.I?
Would the ban encompass ALL the GT40 brands, or just the Slot.it GT40s?
One thing to remember and consider is the Slot.it GT40s are an excellent choice for new racers to help them get a car in this class that is easily made competitive. If these cars should be illegal for the class, wouldn't it be easier to just declare Slot.it cars, or any podded cars ineligible for Classic Sports Car Div.I, regardless if the motor pods are modified into a fixed position?
I have no problem with guys running a podded chassis has long as it is fixed. it opens up many more cars that can be run in the class and helps those that do not have the skills in building a brass chassis.it also opens up the gearing choice with these 14k motors being able to run 18mm gears or going inline. the big thing is that if a podded motor is used is to confirm the chassis and pod have been clued making it a one piece and if not then laps removed per heat (say two per heat Total of 6 for the race) or a dq is in order.
