Topic: PASER Club Re-Organization

Following the Trans Am race at The Gorge Raceway on Saturday February 24th, a meeting of the PASER Club was held. In this, the first meeting, the ground work was laid for the re-organization of the club. It was encouraging to see some attendees in the meeting that actually could not make the race, but went the extra mile to make it to this meeting. We are all optimistic about what we can accomplish as a group to improve upon our racing program, and our club in general! Anyone (new racer or veteran) that is interested in being part of these ground floor activities is welcome!

Update from one year ago:

Of the eleven people in anchor positions for the reorganization of the PASER Club, roughly half are still involved. It makes me wonder where PASER fits in. Most every racer in our area races at Rapid Raceway (me included) in the Northwest True Scale classes. There are new classes that have been developed for the 2NASTE style chassis, as well as entry level RTR classes such as Womps and Flexi type cars. Aside from the Hanna style "rattle" chassis used in the Sportsman class, and the Modified style chassis, scratchbuilt inline motor configuration chassis are being abandoned.

PASER's primary focus has always been the development and racing of scratchbuilt inline motored chassis. In the early days there were two main classes; RTR (which were the Womps), and NASCAR (which were scratchbuilt inline motor hardbody cars). Other classes came and went during racing seasons but the RTR (for new racers) and the NASCAR classes were the main ones.

OSCAR is the statewide evolution of PASER. OSCAR was formed to provide rules for inter-club races throughout Oregon. Portland, Bend, Eugene, Cottage Grove, and Roseburg were all involved in the process and racing. Currently only Portland and Bend are still actively involved in OSCAR. However Bob Hanna in Roseburg is planning to bring back his OSCAR race this September 2025. Personally, I am really looking forward to Hanna's race, and I hope we can get a bunch of Portland area racers convoying down to Roseburg!

So, am I wasting my time trying to promote and keep PASER alive? Should I just let it fade away?

This brings me to my other quandary; this NASTE website. My feeling is almost nobody looks at or reads anything here. I think the Calendar probably has some value, but that could probably be replaced by email. Although Monte has been awesome about providing the website for FREE, I do pay a fee for the NASTE.org domain. It is not a substantial amount, but it is a little bit of a pain to keep up on. I don't mind as long as people are using and enjoying this site. If they are not I'd just as soon let it die.

I always look into this page as much as possible to try my best to stay up to date with anything.

I am on this NASTE site a lot. I read all the latest write ups and news. I like to be able to report on the news of Northwest True Scale and I believe it is read by many people. For instance, I started reporting on the plans (Northwest True Scale page) for the 2026 season starting in February and have 1,338 hits as of now. Thanks Monte, it is a good slot car site in my opinion.

My only input as the site goes would be to archive a few of the sections that get very little to no use in order to clean up the page to focus on areas of interest.

I can really appreciate the history and legacy of PASER, and how it has set the foundation for slot car racing for decades.  My observation is that when new racers join our "group", in other words, just a new racer, it is a fairly arduous task to get them up to speed on the different "sanctioning bodies", the different rules, classes, etc.  The most concise explanation was in Bill's post summarizing the general focus of the rule sets.  I appreciate the scratch built high tech inline chassis in OSCAR/Paser, the big wheel stuff of NWTS and the Flexis/WOMPS for low pressure fun.  Perhaps if each area specialized in one type of car, like has been mentioned, it would be easier to sort out for a new racer. . . or an older racer who is still confused LOL.  In my mind, when I think OSCAR, a hinged pan, small tire NASCAR comes to mind.  NWTS, I think big tire Hanna rattlers with an assortment of bodies.  2NASTE the 962 and NASCAR come to mind.  For me personally, the I like hard bodies in general, the cars look sooo cool.  I know that variety and innovation are a big part of the hobby, but if you have other irons in the fire, like work, real cars, working on real cars as a side hustle (gotta support the race program somehow), family, etc. it is difficult to keep up.  Just my perspective as a full time employed, Slo Poks car club member, Ouchida Motorsports, Bart's Mercury Farm, Ouchida Chihuahua rescue, model car collector, AND  slot car racer.  Thanks for listening. . . .
