Thanks Doc, but I’ll bring the right cars this time
Great night of racing, good turn out. There was three different winners. Had a new racer join the fun. Rico race report will break down all the details.
March 13 race results:
Race report March 13
8 racers braved Portland traffic and weather to show up at Rippin' Ridin' Raceway to do battle. Up first was the always popular CanAm class. Al managed to complete 3 stellar runs to to beat me by.7 of a lap with Doc right behind me .3 of of a lap. Talk about close racing! In fact all the racers did well this round with David, Greg and Douglass putting in nice runs followed by Ellliot and his son Neil who was a first time racer at Al's.
Next up was the points race. Doc picked out the fastest of his fleet of cars for this class and led the field, followed by me and then Al. There was plenty of close racing through out the pack. This is going to be a fun class.
Open class was next, we lost David for this race so only seven racers competed. After the dust settled it was me earning the win by a lap over Al and Doc with his previously victorious F-1 machine. That's it for now, hope to see you at the races soon.
Vroom Vroom. It racing time...
Race results from the March 27 race:
One has to wonder; what happened to Doc?
My bad luck followed me from Howies.2nd heat broke a guild wire.fixed it for the 3 rd heat broke the other guild wire. Just not my night..
He may have been strung a bit too tight.
Factory wiring and grub screw. Tossed and installed new wire and eyelets .broken wire should be behind me hopefully. I have 5 more races to to try and get the lead back From Al. Going be tough he has fast cars and driving perfect heats. Going need to put a voodoo hex on him
Last Thursday we had 7 racers show up to do battle at Rippin' Ridin' Raceway. Hersh was a welcome visitor to the usual crowd and first up was Policar vintage F-1. These are fragile little cars but when set up properly are a blast to drive. The racing was close as ever and Al led the way followed by Doc and I was surprised to hang onto third place. During my second heat my car seemed to lose some acceleration and started making funny noises. switching lanes to blue didn't help any and it was soon apparent there was a gear issue, somehow I managed to nurse it to the finish.
Next up was the points race with Slot.it Group C Cars. As always these cars are smooth and fast but Al's Porsche was so good it beat us all twice, once by Al himself and once again by David. I managed a close 3rd .4 of a lap behind David. The rest of the field was close with the exception of Doc who was dealing with the above-mentioned wire issues.
Last up was Open class where ThunderSlot cars generally rule. It became clear to the rest of us that Hersch, Douglass and Mitch had made a secret pact to mess with Al who finally wasn't able to show us all his taillights. My Ferrari was working well and I won with Doc placing second followed by Al in third. A good time was had by all except maybe Doc who had a down night compared to normal.
Race results for the April 3rd race:
Once again there was turn out of 7 racers to swap stories and race last Thursday at Al's track for some 1/32 fun.
Out on the track first were the Slot.it DTM's. This has been a class dominated by Doc and his all-conquering Opel Calibra and Thursday was no different, he led the way narrowly defeating Al by .1 of a lap. I ended up a few laps back and the "let's get Al club" was closely matched a few laps back. David's car had fun paying turtle and spent much time on its back.
The next class to hit the track was GT-3 for points. My Black Arrow Ferrari was really hooked up and set a new record score for this class. Doc was very fast and finished second followed by Al just slightly behind. Sadly, Douglass decided to sit this one out after finding his motor was out of spec
Last up as per usual was the Open class and Doc was out for revenge. His green Lola as really flying and was first with 83.5 laps. Al avoided his" fan club" and finished 2nd with 82.5 laps. For some reason my Ferrari was not hooking up as well as last time and finished third with 81.1 laps.
All in all, another fun night of Racing at Al's.
