Topic: 2024 Tacoma 24

I want to put together a strong Oregon showing for the '24 24.  I am not asking for commitments right now, but I have committed with Alan to an entry.

If you're interested, please mark your calendars: November 7th -10th 2024, with the 24 being over the Sat/Sun, 11/9-10.  If the heats are too long, we can split them up.  If you don't want drive, we could use the support for marshalling.

Mostly looking to increase our Oregon presence up there and move out of the standings basement next year.  Once is enough.

Entry cost will be covered, just need some able bodies to field a strong team.  Think about it...

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

As always, I'll be there. We could do so much better with a few of the "hot hands" in the group. The more folks we have, the easier it is....

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

I will commit to "think about" it.......................

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

Yay! Thanks, Bill!

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

Yay Bill, but don't think too hard about it.  If you do, it won't make too much sense...

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

Putting this back to the top of the heap...  I have an entry which needs a team of people to support it.

Dates are November 7th -10th 2024, with the 24 being over the Sat/Sun, 11/9-10.  Come on up for it!  You're welcome to race in the sprints prior to the 24, as well as work with whatever car will be used for the 24 while we get it tuned for the event, and of course, sharing the driver stand during the 24!

If you're into slot cars but not the racing, we also need someone to marshall and gopher (just not at the same time).  Having extra bodies around to help out with random stuff is just an all around good thing.  We need at least 3 people to stand a chance of staying sane.

Long story short, come play with toy cars for as long as you can spare.  Entry is covered.  Show up.  Have fun.

Any questions?

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

Come on now, some of you 124 guys need to get behind this.

Chris, this is just the forum, send me an item I can send out to the mailing list.  Email me.

So far it's been crickets...  Stan and I can't run the team with just two of us.  No one wants to give it a try?

Or is it me.....?

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

I would love to help you out Chris but I work on Saturdays and church Sundays. So weekends are a all booked up.

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

Chris, I was always puzzled why we couldn't get more people interested in this event.

It is a long event that is about three hours drive for most of us but no worse than some of the other distant events.  The cars are nice to run and the tracks are good,

They run 50 minute heats.  Not 3, not 4.  50 minutes.  A real honest to goodness Enduro,.

Anyway, it's still a mystery to me.

Hey there be many who are active racers and retired.  Us working folks only have so much Vaction  that we. Can use.

So you in then??!??

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

Monte, as a past participant here is what I think are some problems with the enduro. 1. Yes it is a long drive for us (but that does not usually stop me). 2. As I've aged I don't enjoy long drawn out events as much as I used to. 3. At the event I attended there was almost no time for a break to rest or eat. 4. I no longer enjoy racing slot cars in the dark. 5. The BRM Trans Am cars we raced in the event I attended, handled like crap! 6. Compared to conventional 1/24 scale slot cars, all the BRM cars handle like crap. 7. Although I am accustomed to racing cars that handle like crap, doing it for a full 50 minute heat is absolutely NO fun in my book! (I'm sure it's the "old guy" thing again!). 8. Turn marshalling a corner for 50 minutes straight is even less fun than racing a car for 50 minutes straight!...........So 8 reasons why I'm pretty sure I'm out again this year! Sorry guys!

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

Sorry Chris, I'm to the stage where I avoid large gatherings of people.  I also have issues, just not the one's mentioned by Bill.

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

Gang,

There are three of us on the team.  That is the absolute bare min to field a team...  Is there really no one else interested in even hanging out at a slot car center?  If you don't want to race, we'd be honored to have you help marshal- not that you'd marshal 24/7, but any help would be great, specifically Sat or Sun.

Please?

Chris

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

Some of you are retired (Mitch) so there's not a huge excuse. It really CAN be FUN if there are enough to take a couple of heats each. Of course, we understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's always been enjoyable for me.

You've got 6 days to decide!  :^)

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

I'm sorry guys, and I really do hate to let you down. But I am out. My previous experiences with the enduro events in Tacoma have not been great. I guess I am spoiled by the excellent racing we have here locally.

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

Bill, they are being run better than past days. Alan has learned a lot in 9 years.

Bill,

No worries.  I am not so much trying to convince people who don't want to do it, but trying to encourage others who might not have thought about it to give it a try for once.  There are a ton of people on this forum who enjoy slot cars and it seems weird that we can't put more than three people together for a team.

That's not to say you're still not invited if you change your mind!

It's a lovely facility with gorgeous cars and fun tracks, and the event is a ton of racing.  Give it a try!

Chris

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

I agree, it is a very cool facility! And to be honest, I think every slot car enthusiast should run the enduro at least once just to experience it! It is very possible many would enjoy it more than I did!

Re: 2024 Tacoma 24

The other thing that people may miss about the weekend is that there are a number of "support races" that feature other cars and sprint racing that are just what everybody who enjoys slot racing love about the hobby. Even if you don't come for the enduro, you can help us out by marshaling. That would give the couple of us who aren't driving a chance to rest up. You wouldn't have to do the whole 24 hours, just a few heats to give those of us driving a break.
