Man Rico, that car is nice!!
I made a comment on the Facebook True Scale site a few minutes ago. If we get 8 racers tomorrow we can have a good time. Less racers and we can call it a practice day or decide what to do at the time and still have a good time!!
Hope to see ya tomorrow Rico. Doors open at 11:00am.
well. these might help. just had a interesting read on the good old internet saying that Copper Destroys Viruses and Bacteria.Today, we have insight into why a person handling copper day in and day out would have protection from a bacterial threat: Copper is antimicrobial. It kills bacteria and viruses, sometimes within minutes. In the 19th century, exposure to copper would have been an early version of constantly sanitizing one's hands. so get to scratch building some brass chassis.
John Gill's new Lotus sporting a Jairus Watson paint job! Pretty nice I'd say!
you can never go wrong painting a car black and gold....that car just ozzing sweatness
Looks REAL nice!
Zack
Purdy!!
wow that glows. what does look like under a black light?.... yea there is a thought a black light race....
I used to have a night race with the 962's once a yr. The popularity of it fell off. I would love to put it back on the schedule if I could get a few racers to partake. I have all the track lights still available. All it takes is a little wiring and lights, I bought mine at Radio Shack, they take a little flat round battery or some racers installed lights that light up with track power. It would probably take a new Bluegroove 962 or how 'bout a Lola MK111 D70 Bluegroove body? Add lights, not very expensive and if I get at least 8 guys who are willing I would gladly add it back into the schedule once a yr. So how 'bout it? I really liked it and had fun racing under the lights.
Doc...Black light race....we did it 1996 through 2001 at the Halloween Races....Did a couple with a strobe light also.......results were interesting although not so good!.....
Howie.....I'd do the night race at your place again! I like the Lola T70 idea! How about vintage Le Mans?
I think we could call it the "Northwest Le Mans". I wonder if the Lola body has the same wheel base as the 962? We also could use the Chapareal 2F body, it has a wing. The light rules are still in the 962 rules so that shouldn't be an issue. I would like to start planning the 2021 season, needn't be right away but we could chip away at it between the 3 tracks.
Speaking of night racing..................I am in the process of building a car with head/tailights. The body is a Team Bluegroove Chaparral F2. I am trying to make it easy as possible for racers to participate. I am building this car with my Flexi chassis from one of my Can-Am cars. I am thinking a racer could take a chassis from his Can-Am car and just install this body. This body has a 4" wheelbase. This would be spec class and the Flexi chassis would have to be approved. This may lead to another chassis session! I do not have the rules all done yet. This would be a new class for the next season.
I would like to have comments on what you all think about this.
I will send Bill a few pics. of the progress so far so he can post them.
I mentioned the headlight class at last nights race and asked how many were interested. I got enough hands in the air to go ahead with building the car. This will be a next season class and we will have a chassis session for this between this season and next ( summer ) for those that are interested. This class will have a special race at Rapid Raceway next season copied after the Rapid 500 and the Rapid Grand Prix.
Beings Bob's new class called Classic NASCAR was voted in as the points class for the first half of the 2022 season I decided it was time for me to build a car. The first picture ( after Bill kindly adds the pictures ) is one of my pet peeves: oversize wheel wells or too small front tires or both! The second picture is .040" plastic that I used to fill in the wheel well. Third picture is the inside of the wheel well. I used Super glue. The model kit that I will use is the Monogram Olds that the project is pictured on.....................to be continued.
Wynn's/Kmart continues. First picture is cutting the plastic around the tire using a Dremel drum sander. Second picture is adding JB Weld for body putty. Bill turned me onto the JB Weld as a body filler. I was skeptical as I have used JB Weld on a lot of stuff but never on plastic model kits. It worked out fine, sands easy etc. Third picture is after sanding. Fourth picture is after using Bondo glazing putty and sanding. Fifth picture is in primer.............To be continued.
Looks great Howie! No wonder your cars always looks so good on race day.
Will be awesome to see the final results.
Thanks Matt. Here is the latest: I got an old can of spray paint out, I have had it around for years, it kind of matched the blue color on the box. I heated up the can as usual before painting, everything came out ok except the hood. It had a rough coating for some reason, so I sanded it and re sprayed, not any better! So I am going to sand the whole car and buy a new can of spray paint. I know this is a slot car and doesn't have to be show quality, but I have my limits as to what is acceptable for my eyes.................................even slot cars that will get beat up!!! LOL.
Ok, finally finished the Classic NASCAR. It is not perfect, when I clear coated it the paint wrinkled in a few spots, I have to tell my self: "Self, it is a slot car, it will get beat up, so get over it"! I mounted the body with home made pins. I soldered brass angle to the pans and bent it to contour with the body and taped the body in place and drilled the mounting holes and used .040" piano wire and bent it to fit the holes. Bill will post the pictures for me when he gets time. As always: Thanks Bill !!
Wow Howie! It looks great. If a could get a car to look even a fraction like that I would be happy.
Once you are on track with Bill it is sure to get beat up so that is a good mentality to have.
For some unknown reason my cars seem to get wider as they enter the turns!
Isn't that called a "Fat" Fender? Bill's new nickname: "Fat Fender Bill" LOL. Ok, I'm done.
I can live with that! Been called much worse!
