I need to attach my ninco track to the plywood base.  How is the best way to attach it?

I don't see any predrilled holes for securing the track to the plywood.  Or is there some light duty glue that could be applied in spots?

Thanks!

It was mentioned above a race on Oct. 16th.  If that is still on, I would love to come and meet you guys.

Any photos to see the latest work?

Good for you!  Love to see more photos if you have time.

I'm building a new club car for the Heidelberg 1/32 track.  The wheel base for this car is shorter than my other cars, which leads me to wonder, on a track with sharp turns, a shorter wheelbase seems advantageous, to a point.

Is there a ratio for wheelbase to wheel width that is optimum for a sharp turn race course (keeping motors, weight, tires, etc.... all constant)?

Thanks.

The change looks pretty minor to me.  Probably wise to have considered both scales.

Thanks for the updates, and great job!

Thanks for the offer Bill.  I'd probably better drive something like a................... pace car!

Beautiful car!

Looks good Bill!  I had maybe a similar s curve, though probably not as sharp being Ninco track.  I really liked the skill, or luck as it was in my case, in navigating that portion of the track.  Unfortunately, the track layout then was way to driver oriented for us beginners.  But someday.......

Anyway, I hope you keep the NASTE S curve!  Looks fun!

Hi Bill, thanks for sharing the photos, and putting descriptions with them!  That had to have taken some time too!  Very interesting to see how the track is made and built.

Thanks Rico!

Love to see the photos, but for the life of me, I can't figure out where the "slot tech" section is.

I just wanted to take the opportunity to express how much fun low tech slot cars can be.  My friend and I have been racing Artin stockers on my home track, 4' x 8'.  This is a pretty low budget affair.  I have done nothing to the cars as far as any tuning.  I'm sure the tires aren't perfectly round, the front axles are to wide, etc. etc.  I guess my point is, if two or more can agree to a setup, any car can be fun to race.  We both have scratch built club cars for a club in Eugene.  These are definitely high performance, and is a much more serious type of racing.  But I wouldn't say they are any more fun than the cars and track at home.

I'm probably not telling anybody anything they don't already know.  But if you are just starting out, two "good natured" racers can have alot of fun on most any kind of setup.

Forming a slot car club in Oakridge is much harder than I had anticipated.  I ran an ad in Craigslist, plus an ad in the local weekly paper for two weeks.  Just one response, and they never returned my email.

I suppose the percentage of the population interested in slot cars pretty much means it's a bigger city fit.  But I don't know how many times I've been told people in my town are looking for some form of entertainment in town.

There is a Christmas holiday bazaar in a few weeks here in town, I was thinking about setting up a booth with my track and cars.  Just not sure how to entice adults, and not kids who just don't get the real idea behind slot car racing.

If any of you have any thoughts or suggestions, I would sure like to hear them.

Thanks.

I have 4 Carrera Evolution Mustangs I would like to sell.  I think I paid about $35.00 for each, I would like $22.00 for each, but I would consider most any reasonable offer.  They are all about a year old.  All have few hours on them.  The yellow and grey ones probably have a couple hours of time on them, the other two half that.  The yellow one did have part of the rear bumper break off, but has been glued back on.  I was going to use them as club cars, but have decided against it.

I'd like to buy 2 to 4 used Artin Stockers.  Preferably in good shape.  Trying to put together a beginners class for my track.  I have 4 now, but two are dedicated already.  An additional pool of 4 to 6 would be nice.

Thanks

My dearly beloved fiance made me a box for my slot cars.  Thought it would be interesting to see others have for boxes.

Not sure if anyone else is using Ninco Snow Track, but thought I would share my thoughts about it if any one is curious.  When I first considered the snow track, I thought it might appear gimmicky.  But now that I have raced on it, I don't believe it is.  Though it wouldn't look realistic with Nascar racing, it might look realistic for Rally style racing.  For my track, it just adds some complexity to a pretty small track.

The snow track is very smooth finished, with a tiny burm on each side.  It is easy to get the car side ways, or even de-slot.  But with a little practice, we were both managing our cars through it with minimal problems.  I had thought about possibly scuffing the snow track some if they proved to be to difficult, but I don't have any intention of doing that now.

Wider, longer cars seem to handle the snow curves faster.  And since I just started racing on this track, I don't know what different types of tires might do performance wise.

Accelerating out of the snow track rarely caused much problem.  Maybe we were slowing to the point that re-action time to accelerating was about the time we were leaving those sections.  Not sure.  Entering the snow curves was the critical point.  Seemed to me the cars would get sideways much more often when going to fast as compared to the normal curves where de-slotting was a bigger concern.  We deslotted off the normal track way more times per lap than we did on the snow curves.  I'm not saying de-slotting isn't hard to do on snow track, just seems when on the cutting edge of being in control, more likely on my track to deslot on the normal curves, and get to sideways on the snow curves.

Well, I hope I haven't bored you.  Other than the track not being real realistic, I think the snow tracks are a great addition to my track.  The physics of weight, speed, and slipperyness make for an interesting aspect to my track racing.

Thanks Rico.  The BSCC rules will give me a great starting point.

I hope to start a slot car club here in Oakridge, probably in the fall of this year.  I would like it to be a faily low budget affair.  Does anyone know of club rules I could use as a template for creating my own?  I've see some on the internet that are pretty detailed.  I would like just some basic rules for running pretty much "stock" cars, marshalling, and racing.  These would all be open for revision once the club is formed.

Thanks.

I am running the second layout pictured.  Since those photos, I did paint the black part of the track leading into the snow track white, tried to feather it some to make for more realistic looking transition from blacktop to snow.

My lift system is just a Harbor Freight winch attatched to a ceiling rafter.  Running the ropes to a center position does sacrifice alot of heighth.  I'm thinking of running cable to each corner, through a pulley, and then straight down to the track corner.  My garage is pretty small, and this would help with my space issues.

I have some photos in the "Cascade Road Course" topic in this Track forum section, the ones dated 2-15-09.  The photos were just after I reconfigured the track to the current layout.

I finally had some racing time on my track.  A friend came over and we raced for several hours.  My dremeling of the track worked fine after a couple little spots were re-done.  The Carrerra Mustangs now run smooth on the track.  It was great to race, plus nice to start to learning where improvements are needed.  Adjustable power supply would be good.  Plus the track itself needs better support other than the bridge like column posts I have now.  The track is too flexible for just those.

We raced both Artin Stockers, and Carrerra Mustangs.  The Mustangs were much faster, probably becuase of being better built and heavier.  Though the wider and longer wheel base seemed to help the Stockers through the snow curves better.  We were both impressed to how much of a drivers track it is, at least with the currrent car set-ups.  Also see the need for a lap timer instead of just a lap counter.
