That's what she does best..........LOOK........
She didn't win at Tom's either...........
Tom does have a lot of parts available at the track! I believe he opens up his shop once a week for racing.
I'll send you his contact info so you can touch base with him Zack.
YES! A BIG thanks to Monte & Victoria!
The annual NASTE Halloween race is truly an event that needs to stay on the calendar!
yeah, thanks a lot Zack......Now I want to throw away my Razor...........
These are the results from the first round of racing consisting of 2 minute heat races run in full light conditions:
The second round was run in full darkness, also 2 minute heats.
Congrats to Terry on his overall win! King of the dark and the light!
Zen Racer Victoria's Merc entry was built by Monte and featured bobble head driver and passengers!
Terry's early modified Ford driver took the luge approach.
And then there's Al's driver....again with the attitude!....I just noticed.......he ran somebody over!
The starting grid for the first heat race, under lighted conditions.
Monte's go kart entry built by Bryan Trachsel, is always a crowd favorite at the NASTE Halloween Races!
Rico's entry had some.....well, clearance issues. But nothing Rico couldn't remedy with just a whack or too!
Mitch's hearse made it back to race again this year:
Another new entry this year was Zack's uh...........well, as best as I could guess, one of the co-stars from the Cars movie, only with a bloody nose?
I had an awesome time at the NASTE Halloween Race last night!
A big thanks to Howie for hosting again this year! Rapid Raceway is the perfect venue for this crazy race!
Thanks also to Terry for loaning me a car and controller so I could partake in the craziness!
I apologize for not doing a better job of getting photos this. I'm missed some entries completely and I apologize to those builders. As always, all of the cars were really cool again this year! Here are the photos I did take-
This was Al's coffin entry this year, complete with a driver with attitude:
Here's some video from the NASTE Halloween Race on October 26th 2019.
More great stuff Zack, thanks!
Goose would be able to tell us for sure!
Some video of the OSCAR race at Tom's World on Oct. 17th.
Everybody gets a nickname at Tom's World. Nak Nak and Stew Meat bench racing.
The Man himself, Tom Street.
And then of course there is that Track!
Bob Nakamura won the Concours award for his beautiful Ford Torino!
There is a LOT to see at Tom's World!
Tom and JP going over race results.
View from the banked turn end of the track. The long gradual right hand turn is a wide open throttle, straight like section that leads into a very tight left hand turn.
After completing that sharp left hander you head up the bridge. Too much speed will get you some air time, which is definitely NOT good because there is a hairpin right hand turn at the other end of the bridge!
Here's a photo of the starting field for the Super Stock race.
John Gill & Bob Nakamura getting in some practice before the OSCAR race at Tom's World in Bend.
Tom's track has a modified section where the track can be easily changed into a short course eliminating the long straight and banked turn section.
Small strips of metal can be pulled out and relocated to redirect the cars away from the straight and into the left hander of the short course. Pretty slick!
For years I've been wanting to race on Tom's track in Bend. I was told it is bid and very challenging. Well it is every bit of that, plus fast and exciting! The OSCAR race on Saturday October 19th was for the Super Stock Class. Basically the class is open to 1958 through 1979 American made sedans or coupes on scratchbuilt chassis. What I was to learn was, these cars are very fast, and they don't handle nearly as well a a late model NASCAR!
The race itself for exciting and for me quite challenging. Tom's track is a combination of very fast sections and tight technical turns. We raced each of the four lanes for 4 minutes to complete one round of racing. The entire race consisted of 4 rounds, or 74 total minutes of track time for each racer! You definitely get your money's worth in track time, not to mention a free lunch!
Highlights of the race included some spectacular crashes (the worst I've ever seen), one setting a new record for distance travelled by a body separated from the chassis, and an altitude record for a de-slotted slot car flying above the track at some four feet plus! The local racers were very good drivers and competitors, but were also very friendly and made me feel welcomed before the first heat race was even over.
I'd like to thank Tom and the Bend racers for their hospitality and generosity in loaning me both a car and a controller. And a big thanks to John Gill for driving us to Bend at 5:00 in the morning so we could race! Thank you all, I had an awesome time!
"So I say if the racing is close....why change."
I agree with Zack, this class is good as-is and there is no good reason to make changes.
Two things as far as motors go; 1. contrary to some opinions, there are TONS of "black stripe" motors out there! Even if it requires picking up a cheap car to get one (I have literally dozens soon to be available). With that said, what is keeping you from switching out your "black stripe" motor if you think it is too slow?
2. Somewhere, sometime, someone is going to have an H&R motor that seems faster than everybody elses. NONE of these motors are high quality, and although the H&R motors seem to be more consistent, they are still just high volume, high production, low cost, cheap motors! Don't kid yourself we are NOT using high end parts when it comes to motors!
Thanks Zack, this is great!
