Topic: The NASTE chassis!

Alright guys, I am making progress on getting the Scholer Pantera model loaded into CAD.

I want to get your guys input on necessary changes to the design to better suite our cars and builds. Here is a list of the changes I already plan on employing. Let me know if there are any other changes you think would make this the best bet for us.

1. The main brass plate will be made out of .063 brass plate, so shimming for pans will no longer be necessary.

2. All hardware will be switched to 2-56, I can get 100 SS screws for $6.

3. H-plate for body will be made of steel, to resist bending and need to reinforce.

4. All brackets will be 18ga mild steel, I will probably plate them to resist rust.

5. Bearing bores will be changed 1/4, to allow direct installation of 3/32 bore axle bushings.

6. Motor cooling hole pre-cut in chassis main plate.

These are the plans. I will be producing 1 prototype with the necessary changes as soon as the file is ready, then going about trying to price them to be manufactured. I have a target goal of $75 for the kit.

Sounds great Zack! Please check to make sure the wheel base can go to 4.5", I don't remember if the chassis I loaned you can stretch that far, I think it is good, but you know.................my memory fades in and out!

The car is all loaded up. We are going to make some small changes after a pow wow last night.

1-All of the extra holes in the chassis for the suspension front end will be removed from this model. That will add weight to the chassis plate. You can always drill your own if needed.

2- There will be a clamp piece made for the tongue instead of 4 screws, so that it can be used to reinforce the guide tongue

3- The side pockets for the pan will just be rectangular shaped, so making pans that fit will be much easier.

4-Instead of 1/4 diameter bearing holder, we will be going with 3/16. Since that is the standard OD of most ball bearings and bushing for 3/32 axles. This way the bushings/bearings can be installed directly.

5- All parts and brakets except the main plate will be made of 18ga steel, including the H-plate body mount.

FYI>>>>chassis is adjustable from 3.8-4.8" the way it is currently configured.

Some of the things you will also find nicer about this chassis, is the fully blended smooth corners on all parts!

This looks like a well thought out improved version. 3/32 bearings are 1/4" OD I believe without looking. Using durable steel in the critical areas is a big plus. Brass provides good weight but usually needs wire re-enforcement. Good job on trying to provide a production kit that doesn't need a lot of mods!

Oops,  3/16 bore is correct.

Thanks Dennis, I think it will be a solid improvement all around. But not so much that the old cars are obsoleted.

What I like about what Zack is doing:

#1 veteran racers and new racers alike will not have to look on line or wherever to find a legal ( for Rapid Raceway ) chassis any more.

#2 The chassis is going to have stronger parts such as the rattle pan, guide tongue, axle brackets. That is a big plus!

#3 American nuts, bolts, axle holes etc. YES!

#4 This chassis is good for 4 classes at Rapid Raceway ( TA2, NASCAR, NASTRUCK, Porsche 962 ) so if you want you can use this one chassis by adjusting tracking and wheelbase and maybe pans. That is also a big plus if you don't want to spend unnecessary $.

Can't wait to get my hands on a 2NASTY chassis!......................................................... Poetry in motion!!

Alright guys. I have ordered the first 2 prototype chassis today. There are still some details to iron out, but I am hoping to have one of them functional by the weekend if all goes according to plan.

Right now it looks like pricing should be pretty good!

Progress report. I made an error bending the first chassis plate, so I am hoping to complete one chassis out of the remaining prototype parts.

I got the correct countersink from McMaster carr. This is hand tapped 2-56 (TINY), and bent on the press brake in my shop. So far so good!

Hopefully this chassis will be in a running state next week, and I can get one of these guys with a big track to let me in and do some testing!
