After the race last night I thought I'd see what everyone thought about these situations as well as offer my opinions - freely and gladly. ![]()
Cars that don't start at the start of a heat
I think cases were the cars don't leave the start line at the start of a heat for a reason other than the car wasn't in the slot is cause for a re-start. We're not really running for pink slips here and miscues can happen. In my case last night, my controller failed to work for some so far unknown reason. Other times it has been someone didn't hook the controller up right, the car was in the wrong lane, someone didn't know they were up and so forth. I think everyone should get their fair shot.
After they leave the line, anything goes.
Which brings me to the second item:
Cars that stop running during a heat
We've all been there. A wheel comes off. A wire comes loose. A gear strips. Myriad possibilities here. I'm not sure the proper answer is to reach into the box for another car. I think the car you start with should have to be fixed or retired. And that IS racing. And car preparation. As well as luck. But to reach for another car seems like cheating those that can't or don't feel like affording or bringing multiple cars to an event. We've all done it, I've never felt good about it.
And my third topic is:
Ties - what to do
Nobody likes them but what's a fair tie-breaker? Or does there need to be one. Last night we had a 3-way tie for 4th. The tie was broken by fast lap time. Worked well for me but that's just luck. Might as well time who had the longest off. We've also had run-offs. My choice would be to award a tie and give them all the same points. They all ran the same laps. The guy with the fastest lap probably had the slowest too. And of course the average would be... well, the same. So I would vote that a tie is a tie.
Next up...
Lane Stickers
How can you not have a lane sticker on your car at the start of a heat? Someone needs to make a check at the start of a heat. It can happen for many reasons. Or worse yet, the wrong colored lane sticker. Perhaps we need to move away from the timed segment between heats and instead just hit the start button when everyone and everything is ready.
Remember, these are MY opinions. You are free to differ at any point except here:
Thanks Randy!
Since the junior member of the Stumman team has mostly given up the slot hobby in favor of girls and cars if I remember my teens, Randy is pretty much doing this for us. It's a nice track and a friendly environment. It's great to have a nice place to go play on a regular basis. So I just want to say thanks. I really appreciate it.

Re: Carrera Go cars on 1/32 track (7 replies, posted in Cars)
I don't think they will work on any of the other 1:32 scale plastic tracks without filing the guides. Scaley is even worse. The Carrera track has a wide slot and so their car guides are wider AND longer than others. I gave away one of my Carrera's because the guide wouldn't fit in my Scaley slot. I didn't feel like messing with the blade. However, contact Dave Kennedy and ask him about replacement guides for other tracks. I think he told me they were available.
Ya know, Carrera track is not a bad choice. On the other hand, Bill has a TON of Scaley track and I'm sure he'd be glad to make some of that available to you for a reasonable price.
You really need to make a trip on up here.

One thing to know is that plastic track will expand in the heat.

Re: International 32 Slot Car Class (4 replies, posted in Events)
Ok, so I talked on the phone with Larry and here's what I have come to understand...
1. The class is to use the PARMA International 32 chassis.
2. Motor is the Falcon 7.
3. Bodies are to be LEXAN Vintage GT bodies from the 60's era. Bodies are available at Patto's and Larry recommends using the stick-on decals.
4. I'm guessing wood-track foamies will be the tires of choice.
Larry hopes to have a meeting in early October to discuss rules and possible venues for the proposed series. He estimates a running car should cost less than $50.
And that's what I know. We'll wait to see what comes from the meeting.

Re: Penguin Point First Sunday Series- September (1 replies, posted in Penguin Point Raceway)
It was a hard-fought battle but the edge at this point clearly goes to the NSR cars. Of the cars entered, I counted 3 Slot. It, 1 Racer and 4 NSR.
Rico's NSR P68 was slightly faster than My 917 giving it the edge. It was great to see how well the NSR cars ran just by doing nothing more than pulling the magnet. Those are exceptionally nice cars and it will be interesting to see if one of the other brands cars can slip by them at some point.
Results:
24 - Rico Locati (NSR P68)
22 - AJ Locati (NSR Slot.It F40)
22 - Monte (NSR 917)
14 - David Harburg (NSR 917)
8 - Victoria (Racer LM250)

Re: NASTE for 2011 (61 replies, posted in NASTE)
I'm ok with whatever we choose to run but it seems like personal cars would in some ways limit us in what races some of us could attend. I think we need to be sure that we have a set of loaner cars ready at each venue for those that might not have the selected car on that night. Otherwise I'm happy with IROC. As far as individual cars, I know we could pretty well come up with an extra set of either SCX GT's or NASCAR's. I'm sure enough of us already have those. But then we have to deal with tech inspection at each race. Probably no issue, just an extra time element to consider on race night.
