Trans Am thoughts.

If they were all about the same weight with similar motors that might keep different cars reasonably equal.

Hmmmm, Trans Am...  Mustangs, Cameros...  Food for thought:

Tentative date for the event up North will be August 17th.  The initial plan is to run on Victor's 4-lane Scalextric Sport and John's 4-lane routed track.  It should be a great day so let's start planning to see how many of us we can get to the race.

I'm going to talk with John about some minor rule modifications for the Cartrix cars.  More as it occurs.

1 point to each driver for entering.

I hate to hear that.  Always looking for a good bargain on Cartrix classics.

Yes it's true!  It starts this Saturday, June 21st. The Nasteburgring opening round will be held at TooBad Motorplex in Fairview Oregon, followed by the second round at Penguin Point in Hillsboro Oregon.

For those interested in some breakfast before the racing begins on Saturday, we will be meeting at 8:00 am at the Stagecoach Saloon (20101 NE Sandy Blvd., Fairview Oregon 97024) for their world famous $4 breakfast - 2 eggs, 2 bacon or sausage, hashbrown potatoes, and toast.

After breakfast we will travel the 2 miles to race at TooBad Motorplex where the doors open at 10:00am.

After the race at TooBad Motorplex we will travel a little over 2 miles (ok, maybe a little over 20 miles) to Penguin Point in Hillsboro for the second round of racing.

And yes, loaners are still available, contact Monte.

I had to look at that one for a while.  I think that's a close-up of the flying ones fingers.

I hope...

Great video.  Glad I got to see Amanda's Leap.  I guess the Hammer doesn't fall far from the toolbox.

One heck of a night in Salem.  Thanks to Dave for putting it together.  I'm still stunned by the result.  Clearly practice is over-rated.  Well, for me at least.

Reminds me of a day on the Epson Golf Tour.  Stepped onto the practice green.  Dropped the ball and lined up a 30 foot putt.  Rolled it right in.  Guys are all staring at me like 'who is this guy?'.  Walk over, pick up my ball and walk off the putting green declaring "no sense ruining a good stroke".

Sometimes the magic works.

No problem here, as a rallyman I'm used to just whatever the conditions are and we'll make the best of it.  I thought both classes were fun if a little treacherous.

Thanks for Howie for having us and thanks to all those that brought treats and race cars.

A great time as always.

Thanks Bill, glad you had a good time.  It's becoming my favorite form of racing.  I just like the team synergy of folks working together.  Also seems to create for a very lively crowd.

Thank you all.

Both Fantasy World Hobbies and 132slotcar.us have the Lotus 49B white kit available at $39.99.  This is one of the two cars available for the [b]Scalextric Vintage[b] class.

Eagles also available but they're a little more.  Those are probably the two lower priced options for this race if you'd like to have your own car and don't yet.  If you would prefer a loaner contact me and we'll get you set up.

It also seemed there might have been a better dispersal of teams.  Any time two of our folks were teamed together it was a definite disadvantage as one of us would have to run the more difficult lanes where anyone teamed with one of their locals could always get a break and run the easy lanes while the pro ran the harder ones.  John and I were teamed together for BOTH events.  Seems a little strange to me.  You would have thought they would have spread the 6 of us around.  We did well as we could in the first race finishing fifth but if either of us could have run the two inner lanes with any precision we would have been third.  The car was quite good among the group.  The drivers, not so good but we gave it our all.

The time trial format - LUDICROUS!  Never have I seen a time trial format for an enduro ever provide meaningful results.  You want a real time trial?  Drop a c-note on the track and let the winner put it in his pocket and take it home.  I guarantee the results will be entirely different.

And then running a backward time trial but not racing that way because of the fear of too much damage.  AREYOUFREAKINGKIDDINGME!  That would have been the fairest shot we would have gotten.  Extremely disappointed with that maneuver.

Only being there for Saturday I agree it was a little chaotic and could suffer some better organization.  I also would have been disappointed to drop a bunch of money into a car for a specific race only to have it sit in the box.

You may have noticed that I did not marshal a single car.  Last time I was there one of the racers commented that my marshaling had cost him the race.  Seemed unnecessary and really hurt my feelings.  Not gonna marshal there again.

I was also a little puzzled by this:

"All entrants in the BRM race get a Special gift from www.scaleracing.com after the race."

I guess my special gift was half of the parts that John got for his car.  ;-)

I had a great time whenever I was racing and I enjoyed visiting with everybody.  I wished I could have conversed with the gent from Europe.  He was a polite racer.

That small Carrera track is insane.  We'll have our planning meeting out here in Hillsboro in August.  Let's see about getting you out here for that.

Mike, have you got a 4-lane track at home yet?  It looks like you have quite the collection of track.

Not to add in a religious reference but in the process I did encounter a few burning bushes.  Anyone know where I can get a 1/32 scale Smokey the Bear?

Time for another track update.  We've finally started back n the stream area on the digital track.  We added a bunch of trees thanks to a gift of a box of Woodland Scenics build it yourself trees from Carl.  Then we begin laying in the stream.  For the Hills we used the bottled "water" that you just pour out and then wait for two days for it to cure.  It worked ok but suffered from silly underlying paint that make it look more like a swimming pool than a lake.  So, change in strategy!

I started with a cheap flat back base, no swimming pool for this track!

And this time we used the Woodland Scenics pellets.  Drop them in a pan, heat them up on the stove and pour.  Sounds easy.

Here were the first results...

Not exactly the dark, glossy look I was after.  But not to despair, this just means that it didn't go on warm enough.  Pulled out the heat gun bought for my floor adventures last summer and went to work.  The stream heated up and re-flowed bit by bit resulting in this:

Now that's what I'm talking about!  Work continues.
