Thanks Bob.  I'm going to update the first post with the intended schedule.  Interested hosts should pick an open date from the list and be sure to let us know so we can update the list.

And thank you!

Ok, now I've got choices where before I had none.  Thanks.

Yes, will do.

They got tired of you already?

Congrats.  Go home and take it easy.  But take it.

Do they have electrical outlets, we'll bring slot cars to visit!

Thanks Terry.

I'll be contacting track owners more directly here real soon.  Consider yourself on the list.

Thanks to Bill for hosting.  Always a pleasure.

Stan, you can race on our team any time.  I'm sure we'd do just as well.  And thanks Rico for not bringing your cold along.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

To start, it was an early morning.  We departed Hillsboro at 6 am.  Traffic was light and we made good time arriving just about 9 o'clock for the 10 am tip-off.

Unable to gather local travelers I was able to secure the services of Tony and Ray.  Both were comfortable with the cars and the track.  Lucky for me with only 6 teams we ran the 6 lane track.  I'm a lot sharper on that track than the 8 laner.  Also seems to attract fewer riders and less body damage.  I felt encouraged.  I ran really well channeling my inner smoothness and it didn't seem to matter which lane I was on.

On the plus side, we made no pit stops during the event for repairs or parts replacements.  The hand-out motor, though not the fastest, held up well.  I would rate both the tires and the braid as both good for 6 hours of running time.  At the conclusion it's unlikely either could have gone another heat.

Heats were an hour in length.  Another nice bit was that you could swap in a new driver whenever you wanted.  Ray was our tough guy slogging an entire hour on one occasion.  Tony and I were happy to swap out at about the halfway mark.  Don't think I drove more than 35 minutes at any one stretch.  So we kept rotating and keeping the pressure on.  We also grabbed a good corner to work saving more wear and tear - so no running to the center.

We seemed to latch onto the third slot pretty quickly into the race driving against the typical Tacoma hot shoes.

During the 5th heat we could hear the gear starting to get a little loose - the mild grind on deceleration...  But we stayed with it and it held up for the duration.  Teams were close enough that a 5 - 10 minute parts swap would cost a position you probably couldn't get back.

As for the motors - not a single motor swap was registered.  Let me repeat that for effect.  Not a single motor went off.

Cars were dyno'd at the start and end.  By Alan's numbers, all were pretty close at the start and no motor suffered any drop off during the race.  Dyno at the end showed one motor the same but the other five had increased slightly.  Ours was one of the increasers and it clearly improved during the second hour.

History...  at one point I had to encourage Tony to give 'em the old BUSO.  We enjoyed a mild chuckle but no BUSO was given.

Big thanks to Tony who did the car setup including a few last minute adjustments to get us on point.  And thanks to Ray who provided a wonderful controller.  We stayed on it the entire race.  It felt fantastic.  I don't think I can afford one...

Alan provided live video during the event and otherwise ran the race without competing.

All teams had three racers except the two PSSRA teams (BRUMOS).  They had five racers split between two teams so there was some shuffle going on.

At the conclusion Alan pulled out a big box and each team could reach in and make a grab bag find.  Ray had already left so Tony gave me the honor.  I reached in and pulled out a new BRM Porsche 911 GT1 in orange.  It will probably make it's way to a track soon.

By 5 pm we were headed to the beach.  Smiling.

in my opinion this race came off like you would hope.  No delays, no computer gremlins, excellent weather.

And don't forget about Jimmy John's - they deliver!

The 24 hour race is scheduled for November.  Let's get the team together!

I used to really struggle with painting and masking.  Pretty good at it now, happy to give you the benefit of my experience.  Or talk to Greg.

I'm now ready to entertain the discussion on the format for next year's NASTE Saturday race series.  I'm hoping to continue the familiar IROC series while adding a few special events.  These special events could be either Saturday or Sunday.  There could be a series prize(s) or they could just be singular events with nothing to link them together save for the familiarity of the entrants.

This series could evolve to be many things, but you should tell me what you would like.

For those that are interested in hosting events please respond as such and we'll add you(s) to the list.  At some point we'll evolve to a schedule.  Maybe even a concept.

Speak!

Here's our intended schedule with most of the dates being on the second Saturday of each month.  If we have more hosts than dates we'll expand the schedule:

September 18: Slots n' Brauts - Jacquelin Park, Hillsboro

October 29: Halloween - Rapid Raceway, Portland

November 12: Al Christensen - Rippin' Ridin' Raceway, Portland

December 10:

January 14: Bill Bostic - Too Bad Motorplex, Fairview

February 11: Saagers - Penguin Point, Hillsboro

March 11: Dorothy and Terry - Hammer Time Speedway, Portland

April 8: Bob Nakamura - The Gorge Raceway, Troutdale

May 13: Rico Locati - Autumn Hills, Milwaukie

Nice, I've got one of those chassis.  What bodies and motors will you be running?

I don't think there is a max.  We have the car, we just need more drivers.  We'll enter one car and keep it going for the 6 hours.

C'mon all you big, strong men...

someone must want to spend a pleasant day racing with me and the Pusherman.  Yes, Hornby Tony has joined the team so we now stand at two.  Looking at 3 hours of personal track time currently.

Thanks gents and to all those that came to play.  It was hot as can be!  But we pressed on and managed to do a little racing.  Here's the result:

Slot.it C Class:

1.  Paul Painter - 46.7 laps (w/magnet assist)
2.  Tracy Flood - 44.5
3.  Bill Bostic - 44.3
4.  Greg Petrolati - 43.8
5.  Monte Saager - 43.7
6.  Goose Gossett - 43.4
7.  Todd Flood - 43.3
8.  Jeff Fields - 43.2
9.  Victoria Saager - 41.4
10. Al Christenseen - 41.3
11. June Petrequin - 39.1
12. Perry Petrequin - 38.5

Despite the heat we made the best of it and enjoyed a fine afternoon of good food and great company.  And let it be said that on that day Todd looked like a racer.  Way to go young lad!

Close racing for sure as 7 cars were spread out by slightly more than a lap from 2 through 8.

And happily Cat-Zilla was stopped just short of mounting the track table.

I've never worried about a car I put into an IROC event.  Give 'em up for dead as soon as they hit the track.

Plan accordingly as your little, precious, priceless beauty could get rider-ed into oblivion even while in your own hands during a normal event.  Don't want to risk it anyway, don't run it in the IROC event, wait for the next race when you can run it solo.
