No kidding. I'll have to take up a new hobby just to kill time for the next few weeks!

I'm available around 6 PM this Thursday and next Thursday, but not sure if you need student drivers? Lol. I might be able to make other evenings work as well, I just can't do it tonight or tomorrow night.

I think the MRRC class would work for beginners because body selection is good and the price can't be beat. As long as the power was ran low and the mods were kept simple. I would possibly recommend letting all beginners know that we would like to purchase the car back (maybe for $10) if they quit racing. This would be so another new comer could purchase the car. And then maybe we could switch the beginner class to a different car once Bill was out of the MRRC's?

Zach,
I know that your tech article on the Fly Le Mans car really helped me. I am really happy with my Le Mans car because of it. It is easy to do for a beginner if you have a few weeks or more before you want to race it. But I do think that you could catch more beginners if there was something they could buy and race on the same day. If the MRRC Sebring is the car then I am in. I think Carrera DTM could also be a good class for this, in which case I am in also! I think your tech articles will play a key role in attracting beginners and I also think a cheap "low mod" or "no mod" class will also help attract beginners. I think both your tech articles and a low mod class will help promote the sport. I just wanted to get my thoughts out there as a beginner before I forget them! I hope nobody takes this as criticism because I think you guys are doing an amazing job of making it easy and welcoming for beginners!

Thanks for all the input! That MonoVell class sounds like it would be a hoot. Were you thinking it would be a good class for beginners or a new class for the experienced (already hooked) folks?

I wonder if the Carrera DTM class could be raced as a beginner class? A few reasons I ask is....
1) Club people already have them
2) Wouldn't require a new class
3)They are fairly inexpensive (Although not as cheap as others)
4)Mods are limited to BOSA tires

Just a new guy idea here. When Joel and I first showed up a few weeks back it seemed daunting to build a car for a class we were going to race. What if we raced a class every odd Thursday that was for a cheap car (only 1 car would be legal so everyone ran the same car and only legal mod was tuning). This would be so brand new people could buy and race their own car the very first time they came to the track. I would think something like the Scalextric Start F1 car which handles decent out of the box and is $25 shipped to your door. If the club carried 2 or 3 all the time then they would be available for purchase when new folks showed up. And the new folks could leave with a car to tune before the next race. Maybe this class would always be raced, but if no new folks showed up then people just race whatever class is decided on instead. Any thoughts?

I got a DTM car. I noticed that the lower section of body is attached to the chassis. Can the chassis be straightened with boiling water method? Are there other recommended mods?

Digging up an old thread here. I see that the Carrera DTM class will begin running at Al's in about a month and BOSA tires are required. Any thoughts on when they might be available for order?

I think I got my first set in the early 80's. It was a Tyco HO set. That is what initially set the hook....... Good to hear your stories and I will do all I can to help Bill get rid of his 1/32 cars so he can focus on 1/24! LOL

Thanks to all that helped make this happen. I had a great time and came home with a car! I think it helps new folks get a 1/24 car which seem impossible to buy and hard to build if you are new to it. Us newbies do appreciate it!

Last night was a lot of fun. I would like to thank everyone for the racing fun and a special thanks to all of those who helped Joel and I. We both had a blast. Joel wasn't sure how he would do with his eyesight (he is legally blind), but he seemed to do just fine if he had a light colored car. He loved the way Zach's red Ferrari handled but just couldn't see it well enough.

Sounds good Zach. I might need to take you up on that loaner offer. I ordered a 14k motor, but I keep changing my mind on which car to try and build for the Classic 1. On a bright note, I picked up a DTM and LMP car from Bill for the upcoming races.

Topic: Gear mesh with heat (4 replies, posted in Modifications)
Please forgive my continued ignorance, but I heard that you can make the gear mesh much quitter on plastic crown/spur gears by setting the lash a little tight and then running the motor while applying heat to the crown/spur. Heat can be added with a heat gun or lighter/torch to achieve this. Have any of you tried this?
