After a few weeks of inactivity, the doors were once again opened to racers at Inslot's Checkered Flag Raceway in Vancouver!

The doors opened at 10:00 AM and the racers started filtering in. By 10:30 we had eight racers on hand. Dan Fritz showed up carrying a bowl of his world famous salsa and a a couple bags of chips. It was looking like a great day ahead!

The Womp High Noon race kicked off at 12:05 PM. The competition in this class is tightening up. All the participants are getting their cars really dialed into the track. The normal format for the Womp races was used, three rounds of 20 lap sprint races to determine the winner. Here's the High Noon Womp race results:

1st Doc 42 points
2nd Bob 41 pts.
3rd - tie Dave 38 pts.
3rd - tie Bill 38 pts.
5th Hersch 25 pts.
6th Mitch 22 pts.
7th Gerry 16 pts.
8th John 14 pts.

At the completion of the Womp race the entries for the Flexi Race were gridded. We had seven racers for the Flexi race. The standard race format used for the Flexi races is one round of 4 minute heat races. In this race Bob's car was untouchable! Bob cleaned up winning with a 19 lap margin over second place!

At 6:00 PM we still had five racers ready for the 6PM Womp Race. Again we raced the standard three rounds of 20 lap sprint races. Here's the results:

1st Bill 46 points
2nd Doc 37 pts.
3rd Rico 33 pts.
4th Dave 26 pts.
5th Hersch 15 pts.

The same five racers were then ready to compete in the Flexi Class. These are the results from that race:

It was great to have the track open again, and being able to race with friends! The track owners are meeting tomorrow to set the race schedule for the rest of this year, and the upcoming race seasons. Stay tuned!

Ten racers made it out for the Monday evening event. Seven local racers and three out-of-towners. Rich's beautiful track is tricky and challenging, especially for the out-of-towners (who came to be known as The Three Garys; Gary T., Scarey Gary, and The Turd Gary. I suppose you can guess who the Turd was....).

In addition to Rich being entered in the race, Bob Hanna was in attendance, which meant there were some seriously fast racers on hand! Rich allowed both the usual for Roseburg racing, big wheel style Trans Am cars as well as the OSCAR spec Trans Am cars to compete. The cars entered to race were beautiful to look at! All of them were very nicely painted and detailed! Once the racing began it was clear that Bob Hanna and Rich were the guys to beat! I couldn't believe how quickly they could get around that technical course! In the end it was Bob Hanna victorious over Rich Vecchio. Following those two were Ron Leuenberger, Lowell Buehner, and Mark Colby. The top five finishers received some very cool awards hand made by Rich.

In addition to the standard style of distance over time racing, Rich has a computer program he uses to determine finish positions by handicap. So at the completion of the race, some of us less skilled racers have a chance to finish a little higher in the secondary results, based on our actual performance average over our "handicap". It's an interesting system, and well to be honest, it worked out well for me! Thank you for hosting a great race Rich, and another tribute to Bob McFarland!

For the fourth race of the 2022 McFarland Memorial Track Tour we travelled to Tom's World in Bend. Sixteen of Bob's friends made it out to pay their respects and compete in OSCAR's NASCAR Class. Racing on Tom's track is always challenging to say the least! It is one of the longest and most technical tracks in Oregon!

I managed to get quite a few photos this time around. There's a lot to see at Tom Street's place!

The third race in the 2022 McFarland Memorial Track Tour was held at Rapid Raceway. This race was also the final Northwest True Scale race of the Columbia Gorge Championship for Porsche 962s. We had a field of nine racers in attendance. As the results show, the racing was very close! Although Bob was not a fan of the bolt-together type of chassis, I know he would have really enjoyed the close competition!

Last race of the 2022 season for the Columbia Gorge Championship of April 16, 2022.
This was also the Bob McFarland memorial race at Rapid Raceway.

Mitch, your Flexi was hooked up! You were definitely one of the fastest and most consistent in that race until you lost that wire!
