I have updated the photos and description (152 through 202) of the build up of this track. If you are interested in seeing more of the process click on the "Slot-Tech" tab on the NASTE Home Page, and then look in the "NEW routed track at TooBad Motorplex" gallery. --------------------Bill
I'm not sure if I'm actually progressing????...............I don't have a Halloween car done.................. --------------Bill
Been "off track" or "side tracked" for awhile but back on it today. I started the work for the power taps today. With an 84 foot lap length I decided on power taps every 20 feet. In the early 80's I restored a 1/24 track built by Dave Smith of Salem. A friend of mine Hugh Ellsworth helped me with the track and designed this type of power tape for copper tape tracks. I have not seen any other style that to me works or looks better. This system is easy to install although it looks harder than it really is. Thanks again Hugh! -------------------Bill
First I lay out where the tape will be in relation to the guide slot.

Then I drill a hole on either side of the slot.

Using my Dremel mounted in a router base attachment I route from the hole up next to the guide slot where the copper tape will lay.

This is the "ditch" or recess I end up with from the hole up to approximately 1/8 inch from the guide slot.

I use a piece of copper plated welding rod with a bend in the top portion as the conductor between the copper tape and the power supply.

The copper rod extends through the hole below the track. The tape is laid below the horizontal bend in the rod so that when the rod is pulled down into the recess the tape is captured below the rod. I then apply solder to the rod and tape within the recess.

So today I got one power tap done, and the lap counter dead strip section.

Monte & Victoria, Thank you again for another fantastic fun filled night of racing! Daine, Cailin, and I had a wonderful time! Cailin is pumped and ready to go to the NASTE Halloween Race! Our NASTE races have become top notch events, not just from a slot racing perspective, but just as much of a fun social event with friends where even new folks fit right in and can feel comfortable. I think what we have going on is very special, and I really enjoy being part of it. I have to give credit for our success to all of the NASTE host tracks and track owners!!!! Thank you all!!! --------------------Bill
I'll echo that.....Thank You Monte & Victoria!
I had a great time as usual at your place!!! Great friends, great racing, & great food (well it sure smelled great anyway!)!!! -----------------------Bill
Yes it is............
I'm bringing this thing out today to test on your track................
I like the looks of the layout Drew. What radius are the tightest corners?
I tried to post a comment on your BLOG, but evidently I did something wrong. I did not see anything post? -----------------Bill
The chassis is done.

Finishing up the body mounts.........

She's a little porky at 124 + grams.............
Monte's First Sunday is coming up in 3 days so it's back to work on the Ninco Ferrari.
Here's the completed repair with the .055" wire brace in place. I used JB Weld epoxy exclusively on this repair. We'll see how she holds up on Sunday.

Latest spy photos............................VWomp????

It's looking really good Monte!!!!
Over the weekend I got the side boards painted black. I Went over the running surface this evening to check for flaws. I felt the surface was a little too aggressive as far as texture, so I lightly block sanded it with 220 grit. I'm happy now........... Next steps are the installation of the power taps using flush mounted copper rod, and the driver's station hookups with flush mounted copper tubing. -----------------Bill

The track is looking really good Monte!!!! Very nice work!!!
Hey, are those batteries for POWER tools I see there?????!!!!!! ------------------Bill

This weekend I got the last of the white scenery areas painted with a base color (ok, just flat brown). I also painted the sides of the track table black. Another coat of black and some light sanding to the running surface and I'm ready to apply the copper tape!!!!! -----------------------Bill
Looking forward to pictures and then a test session Drew!!! --------------------Bill
The first race of the 2012 season is in the books. Congrats to Bryan on hosting a great kick-off event! I really enjoyed seeing everyone and racing some HO cars again. Thank you Bryan and Kathy!!!! --------------------Bill
So today I received my latest Ebay purchase in the mail. I picked up a Revell of Germany Fun Cup VW for $50 shipped. I was a little concerned about my purchase because it was coming from China, but it arrived undamaged, and quite quickly to my surprise ( less than 2 weeks!).
I'd like to get some opinions from others about which Revell car they feel is the best. Best overall, as well as best looking, best to race with as far as handling (with traction magnets & without), even just which one is your favorite if for no particular reason.......
Personally the only one I have enjoyed running so far is the little Trabant. With a traction magnet installed it is one of my fastest cars! Without the traction magnet it has way too much power! The other Revell/Monogram cars I have run also seem to suffer from too much power in my opinion. I love the Corvette Grand Sports! But when I ran one it was a let down from a handling perspective. If it weren't for the fact some of them look so good, I probably wouldn't even have any........

Today I worked for a few hours eliminating some of the large "white" areas by applying some base color. I also touched up the running surface paint by brushing in the edges up to the guardrail, retaining wall sections.

Here are some beautiful Can Am car examples built by Beau:

Thanks guys, and you're very welcome Rico!
Yesterday I smoothed out the little imperfections in the first top coat. Today I got the second and last top coat done. The running surface is ready for copper tape! --------------Bill
I applied the first of two top coats this evening. Thanks to The Professor for the paint information. The final surface for this track will be the same as John Powers' track in Auburn. Hopefully having two tracks with the same running surface will promote some more inter-club racing in the northwest.
