December 19th Odd Thursday Racing.... Seven brave racers set out in the arctic cold night to race in Fairview......OK, so it wasn't quite that bad. I was actually pretty warm in my garage........

Anyway, eight of us had a pretty good time racing in the Classic Sportscar and GT classes. The BRM Porsche class is rapidly becoming a mainstay of the Odd Thursday Night racing program. These 1/24 cars are a blast to race on the somewhat tight confines of TooBad Motorplex, and the racing is VERY close! Look for the BRM class to stick around as a third class on Odd Thursday's. You can contact Chris Kouba for info on the cars. Diane set us up with some excellent treats and coffee, and some racers brought out some treats as well. The racing was very close with lots of side by side battles. Towards the end of the evening we had two new guests that Chris had invited show up. It's always nice to meet new people, and even nicer when they come back out to race again!

Here's the results:

Classic Sports Car Class:

1st Chris Kouba 50.8 laps
2nd Rico Locati 50.1
3rd Bill Bostic 49.4

January 2002 - Vintage Modifieds on Jeff Courtney's NASTE 3 track. These 1/24 cars were powered by Radioshack motors and ran hard rubber model airplane rear tires.  They provided plenty of action on the five lane track!

In December of 2002, Dave Smith brought his HO dragstrip out to Fairview for a race. This track was very unique in that drivers had to make a simulated gear shift at half track to complete their run. The track featured electronic timing, and the lowest E.T.s were those with the best executed shifts.

Another scanned photo, this is where it all began.

This was my original NASTE track on N.E. Ainsworth in Portland. At the time all I had was a small single car garage, and this track was a good fit, as long as I didn't want to actually put a car in the garage. I was able to house my motorcycle along side the track. The track was originally built by Paul Painter. The track's footprint was just 4 feetwide by 16 feet long. The year must have been 1995 or 1996. Anybody remember?

I scanned this photo some years back, not sure where the original is now, or if there are more.....

This photo was taken at the first NASTE Halloween race. Anyone remember the date? I know it was before September 1999, and before all our kids graduated from high school. The race was held at Tim Barnes NASTE 2 track in Fairview. Tim's track was a commercial 4 lane 1/24 track that was previously in the slot car shop in Lake Oswego. Tim bought it from the owner of the slot car shop. The original owner had reconfigured the track. It's original design, as it was in the slot car shop, was a double decker design. It was reconfigured to fit in a garage after it was taken out of the slot car shop when it closed.

Here's some video I ran across. This is OLD footage, it was dated Oct. of 2000. Looks like a NASTE race at my place in Fairview shortly after we moved here. The race is being run on my 1/24 three lane short track I bought from Larry Cockerham in Carlton. That track was originally set up in my single car garage when I lived on northeast Ainsworth Street. Back then NASTE stood for Northeast Ainsworth Short Track Encounters. Things evolved from there!

Odd Thursday at TooBad Motorplex on December 5th, 2013 -

MAN, was it cold last night!...Outside, but in the garage it warmed up nicely with the twelve 98 degree heaters (racers) in attendance. We welcomed two newcomers, Rob Enders, and Doug Truesdail, and our friend Ruben DeGuzman dropped in from Canada. There was some very close racing and some well placed nerfs. Chris Kouba has a killer car for the Classic Sports Car Class (Flyin' Bryan - the challenge has been put forth). Chris just edged out Rico for the win in the Classic Sports Car Class. The finish in the GT Class was just as close. It sounded like everyone was having a good time! The results are listed below:

Classic Sports Car Class:

1st Chris Kouba 48.7
2nd Rico Locati 48.4
3rd Greg Petrolati 45.9
4th Bill Bostic 45.0
5th - tie Gary "Howie" Howard 44.5
5th - tie Dorothy Abbott 44.5
7th Terry Abbott 44.3
8th Bryan Dickerson 44.0
9th Ruben DeGuzman 39.9
10th Mitch Brooks 37.1
11th Doug Truesdail 36.6
12th Rob Enders 34.2

GT Class:

1st Bill Bostic 53.8 laps
2nd Terry Abbott 52.2
3rd - tie Rico Locati 51.6
3rd - tie Bryan Dickerson 51.6
5th Ruben DeGuzman 51.3

Monte & Victoria - THANKS for another great race day and eating session! As usual the food and racing was first class!!! The new digital controllers make all the difference on the digital track! The improvement over the stock controllers was 500 percent at least! Thanks Dorothy for the treats! Sorry I had to leave early. And lastly, who won????

TooBad Motorplex was the host track for a SCITCC Proxy race on November 21, 2013. I have posted pictures from the qualifying in the "Gallery" section of this site.

Chris Kouba brought out this very cool Ford GT mounted on a modified BRM chassis.
