My box is all finished up!

This won't be for use every week, but it will be great for me 1/24 racing. Where I am likely to have a good amount of spare tires, bodies, etc.

I am very pleased with how it came out! Shane's quality is top notch and the price couldn't be beat. Looking forward to loading it up for the PASER race on Sat!

How in the world did I not get last? Before the motor went up in smoke the car was working pretty well I guess.

Scott had gear troubles of his own.

Fun racing thanks Howie!

I got my NASCAR put together so I can put some laps on it tomorrow before racing starts at Rapid raceway. The small wheels look really funny, but I will probably forget about that when driving it!

I wasn't able to make a lot of progress on the motor, so I am going to have to keep working toward something faster for the race at Bill's on the 23rd. But I hope it handles well!

I trued up a brand new set of Alpha rear tires and installed a new guide, front wheels, motor, and pinion gear. Plus cleaned up all the grime on the chassis from sitting for what I would guess is years.

Thanks for the car Bill!

Howie, the guide tonque and even the axle brackets shouldn't cost much to do properly. If we can supply a CAD file there are mail order places that are very cheap. i can easily covert parts into CAD if needed. It is all a matter of what we are going to deem legal for competition and whether or not it actually fills the needs.

I will say that if it weren't for recycled cars, getting going myself would have been very difficult.

I have been digging into the Scaleauto with Alan a little as well. He is going to provide me with a list of updated part number based on what I showed him we are running.

They are not the cheapest options for the chassis, however the axle carriers and such are MUCH higher quality than the Sloting plus. They also have Brass chassis plates available.

I am just noodling with him to see what a ready to go kit would cost with one of these plates. He said he is willing to put that together with a special part number, if we think it make it easier for those getting into it.

I will probably put one together to try....

This is the basic 8000 series chassis that is available, apparently the chassis numbers we have listed are old now.

He sent me a couple pics of the chassis plates as well. But you get the idea. Just a matter of whether we can get a kit together to suite our needs and hit the proper price point.

Hey guys, with the PASER race coming up at the end of the month and the class also being a potential to race at Rapid raceway I have started putting together a Can Am car.

The rules are essential identical aside from the front tires, which can be rounded in PASER and cannot at Rapid. This may not be the most competitive chassis for the class, but it is something to get going with and can be recycled into many other classes if needed.

I have compiled the parts numbers and parts costs totals as I have done this, in hopes that other new guys might be able to find them easier down the road. There is a lot of little pieces you need to put this thing together!

Sloting plus chassis kit part # SP800001  $49.99
Slick Seven S7-142 Brass Reducer Bushings 1/4" to 3/16" - 2 pair.  $9.00
PROFESSOR MOTOR PMTR1176 3/32" I.D. Grade 7 Ball Bearings 3/16" O.D. $7.95
Slick Seven S7-425 High Performance Slick 7 Guide Threaded $2.25
Slick Seven S7-48 Low Profile Aluminum Guide Nut - 1 Nut / Package $1.69
Parma P670 Guide Spacers 1/32" Nylon 6 Pcs $2.40
H&R Racing HR0302 6 Pair 1/24 Commercial Copper Braid $1.50/pair
TQ RACING TQ130 1' 18 Gauge Orange Silicone Lead Wire w/ Silver Clips $2.75
Professor Motor PMTR1034 HIGH PRECISION axles 3/32" x 2.24" 2/pckg $3.99 (you may want longer ones to start)
Pro-Track PT400 1.06" Foam "Daytona Stockers" FRONT 1/24 Tires 3/32" Axle $10.00
Pro-track eliminator 1-1/16 rear tires 3/32 axles $12.00
Camen 9 Tooth, 64 pitch Pinion Gear    C800109 $4.95
Slick 7 hybrid 64 pitch 56t spur gear $6.00
Lexan Can Am body $10.00

Grand total $140.11

The real trick to completing the car is the spur gear, I was able to find a 58t spur, which you can run with an 11t pinion for similar gear ratio if you run the tires above .950 on the back of the car.  I may end up putting a 58t on the back of my TA car just so I have a shorter spur for the Can Am. Hopefully the replacement gears the club has ordered will be available soon!

That sounds pretty competitive as long as someone is doing the design work!

Does anyone happen to have the results from this race?

I have been trying to keep Slotblog a bit more updated for our club and some folks are asking.

Thanks!

I think this is a solid idea myself. It should make the chassis more competitive easily. The only real concern of course is cost, although for most this is probably not too much of an issue.

Let me know if help is needed executing this, I have some friends in the industry that could probably help.

Do you mean have a center chassis cut for the sloting plus or a whole new chassis.

I was already considering copying the chassis I have, as the sloting plus does seem to be at a slight disadvantage since the main plate is thinner and lighter.

Well I am plugging along figuring out how to put a decent motor together.

I thought I would share my first experience. The Parma motor that came in sportman car was pretty much ruined. The bushing in the can had come unseated, and worked its way up against the winding causing a large bind.

So I installed a new Pro-slot 2003 motor. Because of the time crunch all I did was break this motor in slightly and then put it in the car. I noticed at the end of heat racing the other night that it sounded like the motor picked up in speed halfway down the straight.

Upon diagnosing this I found that the shims on the armature to center it were actually loose enough that the bushing had become unseated in the end bell. This caused significant brush wear and more importantly ruined the armature of my brand new motor, because it scored the shaft on the bushing in the can end.

I believe it was also the cause of my mid-race gear failure, as once that bushing works loose the pinon is not stabilized properly.

LONG STORY SHORT- My new motor has the can bushing soldered in and I glued the bushing in the endbell, as well as made sure to properly set the thrust clearance on the rotor.

I took apart my other brand new one before being ran and found similar problems. I recommend checking thrust and gluing the bushings in at a minimum with this motor.

I can fix this one with a new set of bushings and an armature, which cost more than a whole new motor! That makes sense....

Pics coming tonight.....

Moving along on this 1/24 fleet. I built a new Chevy Malibu SS body for my late model sportsman car. I purchased a 4 pack or random decals on ebay and just did something up that looked decent to me.

The Camaro just got some basic numbers, as the rest of the sponsor decals I didn't care much for.

I also built a new front pan for my Scholer. The car was good, but was getting kinda tippy when the grip was high. Hopefully this isn't too much, if so I will have to cut it down or reinstall the previous plate.

I also built my first motor, hopefully its an improvement!

My former co-worker and friend Shane is a very talented wood worker. He has a side company called PDX Design Studio.

He has a CNC router and laser engraving capabilities, as well as all the old school tricks.

I commissioned him to build me a pit box, mostly for 1/24 racing because it requires a completely different set of equipment than I use currently for 1/32 cars.

It is going to be a completely modular design, so you can add shelves, cupboards etc. in any configuration. This should allow storage changes depending on the cars etc.

Anyway, they charge a bundle online for these and the shipping was a killer. He local, and the price was right! I will update with finished photos when she is all done!

Here are some pics from the event. I should have taken more of the people involved, something to remember for next year.

I had a great time. Some of the heats were the best slot car driving I had ever done, and I had a blast chasing down some of the fastest guys around.

Another one or two guys would definitely improve the drain factor. In general I think it was a fair fun, and civil event!
