Odd Thursday Night race on August 25th at TooBad Motorplex -

We welcomed new comer Dick Gehrke to the group. Dick raced back in the 60s and brought along some great old vintage cars he used to race. It was obvious from what we saw of Dick's collection he was a hardcore slot car guy! It's good to see him back! It was also great to have Dan "Doc" Fritz back in the line up! Dan has been out due to an injury. Even hobbling around on a broken leg Doc finished fifth in the BRM race with an un-tested car! Nice job Doc, and it is so good to have you back! The overall buzz of the race tonight was "where's the Goose?"..................A mystery to be sure!

The night of racing started with the GT Class and eleven racers. After Rico whupped us we moved on to the Classic Sports Car Class and attendance had grown to fourteen racers. Mitch Brooks took the win in Classic Sports Car with his Slot.it Ford GT40. In fact the top three cars were Slot.it chassisied Ford GT40s with just 7/10 of lap separating first from third. Monte Saager's Ninco AC Cobra was third just one lap down making his the fastest Division 1 car of the evening. In the BRM Group C race Chris fought his way to the win narrowly beating Greg. And in the Over 50 Class it was Al returning to the top of the podium with another of his fast KTM powered cars, this time his Ford GT40 Roadster.

Thanks to everyone that showed up for the test and tune session last night! We had a really good turn out. And thanks to Chris for organizing, sharing the tips, and helping everyone get their cars up to speed.

That's fine Chris. I'll open the doors at 5:00pm for anybody that is interested. I'll send out a notice today. I've got urethane tires for us to test also.

Is the BRM tuning session on for this Wednesday the 24th?

Just a side note that just occurred to me. The majority of the cars that were in the finals were 3 wheeled vehicles. Those cars had a minimum of a 25% friction loss advantage over the Flyer. If you remove those cars from the stats the Hawksbill Flyer was one of the fastest 4 wheeled vehicles on the mountain yesterday! After reviewing my photos and videos, I believe there was maybe only one other 4 wheeled vehicle that beat the Flyer.........maybe.

For Rico and I our day started with breakfast at Denny's at 4:15 AM this morning. At 5:00 AM we were at the track for setup duty. Each team is required to have at least two voluteers to help the derby organizers. By 9:00 AM everything was in full swing with teams team up their pit areas and getting ready to race. Team NASTE was set up in a nice shaded area with the Hawksbill Flyer on display for all to see!

Latest update from The Crew Chief:

"First, kudos to Jimmy for sending me that great T-shirt Native American design of a seahawk looking you right in the eye head on.  WOW !  I free handed it today on the hood of the flyer and imperfect as it is, IT LOOKS TOTALLY AWESOME !

Also, charged the battery, replaced a large broken wood screw on the rear axle fairing, cleaned and oiled the wheels ( running on rural country roads really bangs em up! ) , added more velcro to the the rear hatch cover and put in some velcro tyedowns so the cables do not flop around in the cockpit and get tangled up in the pullies.  Oh yes, also added another spacing washer on each wheel. They were sloppy and showed green paint where they rubbed on the fairings.

Every time I go out to the flyer, she shows me something that needs attention.  The test runs were not valuable  -  they were priceless. Have made enough weights to bring total up to 300 lbs.  On Saturday, I will start light and add as needed. My decision.

Troy and I ARE going to the post race celebration into the evening.  It will be Christmas and I will want to open my presents.
