A long way out but looks good for me at this point anyway.

The "Over 50's" would be fun on Howie's track but their short comings would definitely show up there! The only other downside would be the resulting damage. With that said Larry Cockerham came up with a simple modification that improved the handling of the "classic" style stamped drop arm type chassis dramatically!

What about track prep, should we clean the surface off completely?
What car set up specs? Weight kit?

The plan for the bike is to leave it at the bottom of the run and use it to run back up the hill to get the racer transport vehicle. That way we can still go racing even if we don't have enough people to drive the racers and the transport vehicle. One plan is to set my trailer up with some sort of rack to haul at least two cars, with the possibility of Dave Smith's car, maybe three.

This is the "Chase" bike Dave Smith donated to the gravity racer project. Since Dave stopped by the shop the first time and dropped off the bike, Chris and I have been able to "set the hook" and Dave is now in the process of building his own gravity racer! Thanks for the scooter Dave, and welcome to the madness!

This is the rear portion of the Mark II after the sub structure was added for the rear bodywork, and the re-inforcement for the tow hook.

With the additional heat the nose piece cured out nicely!
Chris seemed pretty happy with the nose cone results!

Chris redesigned and rebuilt the steering column in the Mark I. It now has a quick release steering wheel as well as a larger steering shaft.

Chris applied fiberglass resin directly over the blanket, being sure to keep the blanket tightly stretched over th frame work.
Lamps were used over the resin work and a small electric heater was placed under to warm things up as the shop was pretty cold!

Before the evening race at Barclay Hills on January 26th, Chris, Dave Smith, and I got together for a work session on the gravity racers. The work on the Scuderia Kouba Mark I and Mark II is coming along quite well! Both car's chassis are nearly ready for the paint booth.
Chris started construction of the bodywork on the Mark I. He will be using a fiberglass nose piece extending to the cowl. Here is covering the framework with a cotton blanket.

Topic: Sportsman Cars at Rapid Raceway Last Night (1 replies, posted in Rapid Raceway)
There was some excellent racing at Rapid Raceway last night. The Sportsman class was on the grid first. Even though these cars are decades old they are still a blast and provide some of the closest racing you'll ever see! The car that won the race was running an original Bob Hanna designed and built Econo Car chassis, number 98 to be exact. I know of at least two other chassis raced last night that were also Hanna originals.
After we thrashed the Sportsman cars the GT3 class cars took to the track. These cars are plain fast and handle great! I'd like to thank Howie for loaning me a car to race with!
All in all, what a fun night of racing! Thank you Howie!
