Wow

Third car. Slot.it Jaguar XJR9. This is a non evo6 chassis, but runs very well. Rear wing has been glued and the fender covers taken off to widen the rear. I do believe I have the covers.

Chassis flattened and trimmed for body float
Motor broken in
Pod and body mounted on Slot.it flat headbrass screws
Front wheels trued and glued
STAFF 15x10 rear air wheels with Thunderslot slicks trued
Weight tuning

Great PGE race car. Runs solid mid 6's at Al's $35

I may have some more to post when I get home......

Zack

Next car is a Nonoslot Alfa Romeo Sport 2000. These are hard to get cars, and very quick. This car just has basic weight tuning, and will come with upgraded rear wheels and tires. The factory rear inserts were glued, and broke on removal. Will come with either slot.it or Thunderslot air wheels in the rear with trued tires.

Front tires were also trued.
23k slot.it motor.

Runs 5.4-5.7 seconds at Al's. It is a great car for PGT and OPEN!

$45

Well guys, I am well and truly over my slot car budget for the month......and I still have things I want to buy.

I am parting with a few cars I have for duplicate classes to help pay for it, and also because some of the newcomers here may be able to use them.

First up..

Fly Porsche Carrera 6- Classic LeMans
Chassis flattened
Interior sanded for chassis clearance
Motor broken in.
Slot.it pinion and spur gear
Slot.it rear axle
Professor motor Oilite bushings aligned and glued perfectly.
Motor glued in place
Front axle prop blocks
Sloting plus guide
CB design 15x8 aluminum front wheels
CB design 15x9 aluminum rear wheels with NSR Supergrip 21x10's
Trued and glued all around.

Super smooth car, runs pretty consistent 7.0-7.2 second laps at Al's. $55 bucks.

I can provide more pics by request, it is the yellow car pictured here.

Here are some pics of a car I put together using one of Bill's used Chassis's. I did a center mounted axle to give just a little bit of flex up there, small tire, and bracing on the pan between the rear bushing mounts.

Body is a Betta & Classic 917/30. Just waiting on decals.

There are a number of guys taking part in Proxy racing here on the forum. It is a fun challenge to take up, and can teach you a lot about tuning.

Docdoom just finished 7th overall out of a 27 car field in 10 races.

I finished 5th overall out of a 25 car field in Can Am.

I am currently hosting the F1 and SCCA proxies for this year, and we have a number of club members on board. My entry for the GT3 race will also be going round at Mitch's place Sunday.

Nice job on the finish Doc!

I found this article that shows a very cool "tape-less" body mount system.

It allows pretty much complete disconnection from the chassis while still offering pretty solid crash protection!

I will definitely be giving it a shot on a future car build.

It looks really good Zack!

I know some of the builders use a down stop at the rear of their side pans to keep the back outside corners from sagging.

I ended up adding some on this after this pic was taken. I made them out of pretty small wire in hopes that they wouldn't limit the flex too much!

I just finished up this car for the Sportscar race at Checkered flag near the end of the month.

I wanted to try building one myself, so hopefully it works ok. It has a lot of center plate movement, and narrowed body flaps to reduce the amount of mass directly connected to the body. I may change the way the outer pans are being held up from channel to a single wire like some of my other cars for easier adjustment. For my first complex chassis build I am happy with the results.

Instead of the usual Italian bodies I went with a nice 300zx TT Targa. I have a Modena body on hand, and suprisingly this ended up being a few grams lighter.

I did a bit last night on my TR-2. Finally it flows the way I thought it should. I may get the hang of this yet.

Now if I could just find my wind shield...

Nice going Mitch! Just takes some patience and some practice to get the prep work right.

After the chassis build last weekend, I realized how many people could use some solid information on soldering.

Here is a great article about the different supplies needed to build slot car chassis. There are of course some substitutes for all these items, but it gives you a basic overview of all that is needed.

You don't need a super fancy jig to get going. I use one of these at home and it works great, the holes can easily accept .047 piano wire.

https://www.amazon.com/Large-Sized-Hone … b174ebdcb5

Check out this article, also this site has great step by step how-to's on many chassis builds! They aren't directly applicable to the cars we run, but there are a lot of good ideas in there.

Hope this helps!

Alright guys, I am making progress on getting the Scholer Pantera model loaded into CAD.

I want to get your guys input on necessary changes to the design to better suite our cars and builds. Here is a list of the changes I already plan on employing. Let me know if there are any other changes you think would make this the best bet for us.

1. The main brass plate will be made out of .063 brass plate, so shimming for pans will no longer be necessary.

2. All hardware will be switched to 2-56, I can get 100 SS screws for $6.

3. H-plate for body will be made of steel, to resist bending and need to reinforce.

4. All brackets will be 18ga mild steel, I will probably plate them to resist rust.

5. Bearing bores will be changed 1/4, to allow direct installation of 3/32 bore axle bushings.

6. Motor cooling hole pre-cut in chassis main plate.

These are the plans. I will be producing 1 prototype with the necessary changes as soon as the file is ready, then going about trying to price them to be manufactured. I have a target goal of $75 for the kit.

You guys know I have only racing for around a year now. I have never had a lot of interest in the HO stuff, although I have owned many sets overs the years. Perhaps the T-jets with some tuning would make them more appealing to me.

Racing 1/32 has been great, and I have learned a ton for not a lot of money about what to do an what not to do.

Bill told me I needed to come 1/24 racing, because of my love of motorsport he thought I would like the technical nature of the cars. Needless to say he was right, it is definitely at the head of my list of cars to work on, parts to order etc. It isn't cheap, but man the racing is just so much fun!

We are in such a unique place to have three great 1/24 tracks to race on within 20min of eachother, I plan on capitalizing on it while I can!

Thanks for the push bill!

As notes from your statements. Preparation is definitely the only thing holding you back, I have seen you put some incredible runs together when you have a car that is working properly. If you focus in on it I am sure the results will come!

Big thanks to Zack for all the work he did on my car today. Thanks to Howie and Bill for supplying parts and shop time. I look forward to testing it out soon.

Your welcome Terry! It turned out nice well (i hope).

It was a great day of learning for a lot of people!

Last night was a lot of fun. I would like to thank everyone for the racing fun and a special thanks to all of those who helped Joel and I. We both had a blast. Joel wasn't sure how he would do with his eyesight (he is legally blind), but he seemed to do just fine if he had a light colored car. He loved the way Zach's red Ferrari handled but just couldn't see it well enough.

I'm glad he had a good time Tom, considering lack of experience and eyesight issues I though he did very well. Drove within his limits and was very sportsmanlike!

You did great as well, your already picking up speed!

Zack

I had a great time as well. Congrats to Al on the win in Classic 1, it was a tight race!

Zack

It's race day! My favorite class is back on the schedule for tonight, Can Am has been fast and close racing the last couple times around. Doc edged me out last time, but I'm coming for blood!

I plan on putting a flexi style car together as well to play with. The one you loaned me was fantastic to drive!

I got my car yesterday and it looks pretty nice overall. Just got to get to work mounting up the body and getting some running gear in it. Hopefully I can get some test laps in on it in the next couple weeks!

Great looking cars Dennis.

I discussed going with a sidewinder or an anglewinder with John. I know there is a performance advantage there, but the simplicity of the inline motor setup cut the costs to build the car quite a bit. Being that the whole thing was an experiment anyway I just decided to try this first.

Retro is still going pretty strong out on the eastcoast, that is why I went there to get the car built up!

I was very happy with my car and driving in the last two heats of the day, almost brought it back from my gear failure early in the race....

It was evident that careful preparation of the car and safe driving was the way to go in this race. I will definitely be adding a secondary motor mount to my car to aid further in crash protection. The wreck I was in early also slightly bend my front pan and guide tongue which is one of the main reasons my car was so much faster the second half of the day.....

I had a blast, unfortunate I will not be able to see the series through since the scheduling extends well into my 1:1 racing season....

The best race I have been a part of to date. Loved the cars, the race format, and the track was so fun to race and pass on!

Zack

Tom, it is fully legal for our Can Am yes.

If you want it lmk I will bring to the next race!
