Thanks Monte, I see the new tab!
I'm marking the previous rule discussion threads as CLOSED to direct any new conversation to this thread. We still have some discussions open for further dialog. I will try to move those links to this thread. Sound OK?
=====Bill
We had a meeting between the preliminary race and the point series race on February 15th to conclude some of the discussions regarding rule changes to existing rules for next season. Here is a quick run down of the approved changes for the 2019 season by class. These changes will NOT go into effect until the start of the 2019 racing season which starts sometime around September of 2018 (clear as mud right?).
Can Am: Can Am and USRRC will become stand alone classes and as such raced separately. The exclusion of NSR brand cars and chassis plates removed.
Classic Sports Car Division 1: This will become a spec motor class. Division I cars will be required to use the H&R 14k motor only. Class is limited to cars replicating cars built and raced through 1967. Podded chassis will be allowed in Division I provided the chassis motor pod mounting screws are tightened AND the pod is permanently glued making the chassis compliant with the solid chassis rule. No movement or dampening is allowed between the main chassis piece and the motor pod.
Classic Sports Car Division II: This will become a spec motor class. Division II cars will be required to use the H&R 18k motor only. Class is limited to cars replicating cars built and raced through 1975.
* These rule changes posted to Official Rules on July 6, 2018

Hope all's well in the Eugene area! Say Hi to all the racers for me!
Looks great Todd!
Let's hear the vinyl top story!

I had a 908 1/24 body that I looked into racing in Howie's Can Am class at rapid Raceway. I did some research and found that 908/02s were in fact configured and prepared to race in Can Am. I don't remember all the specifics.
...............CRAP..............
I HAVE SCALEXTRIC METROs....LOTS of them!!!!!................................somewhere...............
So true Stan. Their beauty is in the eyes of the bewildered........or blind.........or something along those lines............
Stan, as far as I can tell from your description your Panoz would be legal for the GT class with the Olifer chassis. Pretty much anything goes in the current GT class except Thunderslots.
I agree Monte. I would say the Open classes would still have some rules, just less restrictive. Maybe nothing more than motor/power limits?
Here we go again!
Here's an idea for y'all to consider instead of trying to add a bunch of new classes to fit these new super performance cars and restricting what we can race. Why not have a sub-class for each class we already have. The sub-classes would be OPEN classes, meaning open to any modifications excluding traction magnets. The open classes would be scheduled and raced separately from the non-open class, but racers could run their non-open class cars in the open class if they chose to. Here's how it would look, Classic Sports Car DivII Open, or Can Am Open, raced independently on any given race night. These classes would catch ANYTHING that came out, including exotic scratchbuilds. I would also separate out all current jointly raced divisions and race them as stand alone classes. In the case of our current mess we refer to as F1, I would change it to one or two specific categories of F1 cars with specific rules and throw all rest rest into the F1 Open Class. In this wat any one class could be raced and scored accurately, even for a point series race.
GT 3 rules updated. Take a look Doc and see if it looks OK. Let me know if it doesn't.
======Bill
Point totals have been recalculated without points being awarded for races #3 and #6 where Thunderslot brand cars were allowed to race. All race point totals have been updated and verified.
The Odd Thursday Night Class Rules have been updated to reflect ineligibility of Thunderslot cars in current applicable classes.
Please review and let me know of any errors.
======Bill
Doc, just to be sure, you're for throwing out both #3 and #6 races, correct?
Al brought up a valid point.
It seems most everyone is in favor of throwing out the last point race, race #6.
Do we need to also throw out the GT race #3?
Sorry to drag this out but, please let me know if you want me to recalculate the point standings without race #6, or without both #6 and #3 races.
======Bill
OK Doc, just let me know.
So Doc, should I amend the GT3 rules to allow the replacement of the stock spur gear with a Slot.it brand spur gear with the same number of teeth? How many teeth are on the stock spur gear?
Sorry Doc, I can't go tomorrow. Workers will be on site again tomorrow and I have some things I have to get done.
That's 3 in favor of Chris' proposal to drop the race 6 results from the point series, and Thunderslots will not be eligible for any of the remaining point races.
We will go with the majority of the top 10 drivers in points as of race 5.
Still waiting to hear from Al, Mitch, Rico, Jeff, Fernando, and Greg.
I am fine with Chris' proposal to throw out the last point race results, and with excluding the Thunderslots from the remaining point races regardless of the class.
In favor?
I think I'm up.......
In regards to rule changes mid season of the point series. I am still against this. Changes to a track, such as Howie's power issue or Al's lane color changes, affect ALL the racers equally. I don't see that as something comparable to a rule change which adversely affects only certain racers who have spent the money on a particular car, or spent a great deal of time tuning their car.
In regards to the Slot.it GT40 cars being legal for Classic Sports Car Div.II. The Slot.it GT40 was one of the reasons I created Div.II in that class. the class is defined by classic sports cars, which the Ford GT40 IS! The Classic Sports Car Class was already going wild with some nicely built scratchbuilt cars that are competitive with the Slot.it GT40s. The Div.II segment was one way of separating the high tech cars from the Ninco type cars which the class intention was originally. One nice thing is the Slot.it GT40s give the less skilled builders and racers something to compete against those scratchbuilt cars.
So here's an idea for the remainder of the point series season. Make a change to the racing calendar which removes the GT Class and Can Am Class races from the point series for the remainder of the point series season. Change those races to non-point races and address rules changes for next season. Continue running those classes as non-point races and maybe someone will figure out how to make Slot.it or NSR cars run with the Thunderslots? At least this way there will be no more penalty for not owning a Thunderslot.
Your Slot.it McLaren was dialed and you did a great job of driving it. However as you stated the Slot.it cars appear to be no match for the Thunderslots.
I'm not sure if I will be able to make it to Monte's Sunday. Lots going on tomorrow on the shop so I may have some catch up stuff to get done before Monday's inspection. Check with me Saturday evening and I can let you know for sure.
I understand Doc, but the conversation really should have taken place well before the point race. There is nothing I hate worse than last minute changes to rules just before a race starts. That is totally unfair and ridiculous for competitors that have prepared for the race. That's why we have a rule against last minute rule changes, and why it is important for racers to voice their objections or issues with any particular rule as soon as the issue presents itself. We also need to work quicker to decide on remedies or changes to rules to correct issues. We are pretty good about "talking" about issues and rule changes, but we definitely could improve our ability to make decisions in regard to initiating and implementing the changes.
