Thanks for the help guys. Let shoot for 5 and start the racing around 6!
Zack
No kidding. I'll have to take up a new hobby just to kill time for the next few weeks!
Finish that Can Am car, we race next week!
Zack
We are planning on next thursday guys, sorry for the late update I have been sick the last couple days!
Zack
Monte, I will nail something down with Al and let you know. His wife is going in to surgery for her hip this week. So we were planning on next!
Zack
Alright guys, I brought this up with Al last night while we were doing some proxy qualifying.
I think it may be advantageous for some people if we had a test and tune day for the upcoming classed cars, especially since the tires are just becoming available for the DTM cars.
Al said he would be willing to host one if we can get it scheduled. I could bring along my tire truer, as well as some other tuning related items to be available.
This would be a some good track time to dial in cars, without the pressure of having to race them that day!
If this is of interest to you, post here and we will try and get something organized between now and the first race of DTM!
Zack
Hey guys, We just qualified the cars for the first race of this proxy last night. They are some great cars.
We are looking for people to help out getting the race done, probably at the end of next week.
If there is a day and time that works well for you, post it here and we will do our best. There are a good number of entries from people in the club, so it would be ideal if we could find 3 drivers who don't have a horse in the race!
Thanks for helping out, you guys are awesome!
Zack
I too welcome the input Tom. Not long ago I was in your shoes and having many of the same thoughts.
Gt3 was my first choice of car for this reason. Easy to setup.
Im glad the articles help. I will try to do more of them on projects as they arrise.
Zack
I will race one. However I would also like to point out that getting new people involved by adding classes is almost never a good idea IMO. You have to have at least 10 cars as it is to complete a season with out club.
Access to cars and good technical articles with part numbers would do more to ease the burden of entry.
I am sure these would be fun with some tires, but they have a lot of motor for the chassis, and even though we can get a bunch cheap now doesnt mean they will always be that way for new comers in the future.
This class sounds like what Carrera DTM should have been saved for.
Just my .02
Zack
thanks for the loaner Zack. the hook is set just have to reel me in some...
Glad you got to run Doc. It is some fun racing!
Zack
Thanks for hosting. I had a great time.
I am finally learning my way around this tough track!
Zack
If they are all loose who cares. Its the same for everyone at least.
Zack
Or instead go with thunderslot rubber they fit perfect
I of course would be fine with this, but because of the variables in rubber tire prep. I think most people wanted to stick with urethanes on these. I am fine with it as long as we have some sort of "spec" tire for the class.
They won't be any fun otherwise, since they are slow.
Zack
I think its important also at this time to make a decision about the tires for Carrera DTM.
It is my opinion that we should open it up to Paul gauge Urethanes now, so people have some time to test these cars before the first race with them.
I am not an officiant, hopefully Bill or someone else can make this decision stick.
Zack
I moved up pretty well for missing the first race of the season.
Thanks for the help getting me going! I am ready for the second half!
Zack
We are getting close on the drawings. I am hoping to have a prototype in less than three weeks!
Zack
Great racing tonight all around.
Lemans is hand down some of the best racing we have in the club. Putting Chris in the mix tonight made it that much better!
Great racing Doc, it was anyones race until the tire issue!
Zack
This looks like a well thought out improved version. 3/32 bearings are 1/4" OD I believe without looking. Using durable steel in the critical areas is a big plus. Brass provides good weight but usually needs wire re-enforcement. Good job on trying to provide a production kit that doesn't need a lot of mods!
Thanks Dennis, I think it will be a solid improvement all around. But not so much that the old cars are obsoleted.
Zack
After his first race. New guy Joel commissioned me to put together something he could run in the upcoming LMP class.
With the success I had with the first version of this car, we decided to go with the Fly Racing Porsche. They are really great looking cars, and this magnet version comes with a nice 21k motor.
Here is a quick list of mods:
Chassis flattened and shaved at the edges for float.
All body mounting surfaces de-burred and holes slightly enlarged.
Front Axle shims
Suspension system was dis-assembled and de-burred for smooth operation.
Thunderslot rear slicks mounted on stock wheels, trued, glued.
Motor broken in (it has some POWER)
Slot.it soft braid, Blueprinted guide hole for nice movement.
Motor glued to pod
Front pod mount was clean and greased (these cars have a rubber monoball design)
12g of lead
It turned out great, and runs laps just off the pace of my current porsche and Slot.it LMP cars. But with some small tweaks should be more than enough to be in the mix. Plus is looks like THIS:
Hopefully he loves it!
Zack
AWESOME!
Technically this would be the NASTE Chassis II........if so designated.....
Done.
Zack
FYI>>>>chassis is adjustable from 3.8-4.8" the way it is currently configured.
Zack
The car is all loaded up. We are going to make some small changes after a pow wow last night.
1-All of the extra holes in the chassis for the suspension front end will be removed from this model. That will add weight to the chassis plate. You can always drill your own if needed.
2- There will be a clamp piece made for the tongue instead of 4 screws, so that it can be used to reinforce the guide tongue
3- The side pockets for the pan will just be rectangular shaped, so making pans that fit will be much easier.
4-Instead of 1/4 diameter bearing holder, we will be going with 3/16. Since that is the standard OD of most ball bearings and bushing for 3/32 axles. This way the bushings/bearings can be installed directly.
5- All parts and brakets except the main plate will be made of 18ga steel, including the H-plate body mount.
Getting closer!
Zack
I didn't have to straighten mine either.....But I don't see why it wouldn't work, you can probably just cut the plastic welds and remove those side pods.
Zack
These three are gone. I will be thinning more soon!
Zack
Great race! Thanks for effort you put in the track it made it just that much better to run on!
My braids thank you!
Zack
