Topic: Bill's Junk

Yesterday I was having an email conversation with Monte. It went something like this:

Somebody at the last race asked how many slot cars I have. I hear that one quite a bit, especially if they have just seen my upstairs room! Then somebody commented that now that I'm retired I should catalog all my slot cars. Tonight I gave that some consideration. After the first hour I started to wonder exactly what constitutes "a slot car". Does it have to be a complete car with a body? A complete ready to run chassis? A chassis minus the parts necessary to make it run? Then there's the scale issue. I have 1/24, 1/32, and HO cars.

So I thought I would post the question here. Assuming I have enough parts to complete a particular "partial" car, should it be counted as a "slot car" in my count? After starting in on this "assessment" last night, I realized there is a good chance that 1, I have WAY too many slot cars, and 2 that I may become overwhelmed in my realization that I am one sick puppy!

Here's some photos of my progress? Let me know if there is any interest in seeing any more.

My work bench in its current state:

Re: Bill's Junk

Everybody has lots of 1/24 Flexis......right?
http://www.naste.org/members/bill/IMG_1391.jpg

My collection might be somewhat unusual as I have a lot of 1/24 scratchbuilt chassis which probably wouldn't be classified as pristine or high quality collectibles. But when I think about how much time someone put into building these chassis I just can't help feeling aneed to preserve them. I hope to reconstruct some of the chassis I have collected through the years. I wish I new the story behind each one! Who owned them and where they were raced. Now that would be cool!

Here's an old jaildoor chassis someone built back in the day. Not perfect, but not too bad!

Re: Bill's Junk

I think partial cars count as complete cars if the partial and the parts are set aside together so that they don't become separated/misappropriated.

Your bench looks well organized to me.  I should show you a picture of Victoria's desk some time.

So where is the current count?

Re: Bill's Junk

Here's a few 1/32 chassis. Some old 60s RTR type manufactured, some old 60s race set chassis, some newer.

Here's a pile MEAT might appreciate! A few of my old KTM and Kemtron power chassis. Some really wierd stuff here!

Also in my collection are some old clear bodies that have been painted and detailed. Some are pretty well done. I like the use of the screen on this F1 body.

So there is a small sample of some of my 1/24 and old 1/32 stuff. I have LOTS more in HO as well as 1/24 and 1/32. Any interest in seeing more?

Re: Bill's Junk

I'm pretty sure that Diane is the only one who wants to see Bill's junk.  Now, if we are talking slot cars- bring it on.

Race cars are neither beautiful nor ugly. They become beautiful when they win.

Re: Bill's Junk

Rico, I considered that when I posted this! I should have known the thought would cross your mind too!

Monte, The current count stands at "unsure". The counting became somewhat confusing last night. But fear not, I think I have come up with an inventory plan this morning! It should make for some interesting pictures!

Not quite sure how to respond but I couldn't have been the only one who had it cross their mind.

Re: Bill's Junk

Oh no, he's going to post a picture of each one and we'll have to total the pictures!  cool

Those Monograms with the red motor look great.

Re: Bill's Junk

Now there's another option...........!  Thanks Monte!

Re: Bill's Junk

So I got this bright idea I would start my inventory by getting all my 1/24 chassis together. Laying them on my track seemed like a good idea and a way to organize them. As it turned out it was a lot like organizing a tank full of guppies by color. SH*T I have a lot of chassis!!! Actual count was 126 in 1/24th, and 25 in 1/32nd not including any of my current (within the last 5 years) projects under construction. Unfortunately for me that's not ALL of them. I got tired of unboxing them. But let's say I have the potential to complete another 200 or so 1/24 slot cars. That's close enough for me. From here my plan is to just get a count of the complete slot cars I have in 1/24, 1/32, and HO. After that I may have a stroke!

Re: Bill's Junk

I need to save this picture to show Chris the next time she is eyeballing my stuff/unfinished projects on the workbench.

Re: Bill's Junk

What you see there are OTHER PEOPLE'S unfinished projects I haven't gotten around to finishing or restoring!!!

I have figured out where old slot cars go to die..............MY place!

Tracy recently said to me: "I buy all the stuff no one else wants".............I think the same may apply to me!

Re: Bill's Junk

I imagine that there are quite a few Gems hidden in amongst the "junk". Some of that stuff just gets harder to find very year. You have enough 36D motors there to keep the "over 50" class running forever.

Re: Bill's Junk

36D motors you ask?...........................I have NEW ones yet to be run!!!

Re: Bill's Junk

Are you just hoarding these things or are any of them for sale?

Race cars are neither beautiful nor ugly. They become beautiful when they win.

Re: Bill's Junk

Everything I own is for sale, it's just the price that's in question!

As far as the 36Ds go, I was not aware anyone needed any!

I was referring more about the chassis than the 36D motors.

Re: Bill's Junk

Ohhhhhhh..........well then, that too would depend on price. Biggest problem is I haven't had them out and accessible for anyone to actually look at!!! I also have some bare chassis for 36D motors. I have parts to assemble them also. I could probably put together kits if anyone is interested. I know I still have multiples of Classic chassis.

Re: Bill's Junk

That midget's not junk, it's one of the hardest to find items on the internet.

Re: Bill's Junk

All from the same box of 1/24 Monogram track and stuff.......

Re: Bill's Junk

Ok, I have waited long enough to add my two cents. I have been up to Bill's man cave, shortly after that I informed him that he has earned the top spot and I crowned him the new "Slot Car Slut". Nobody that I know of is into this hobby like he is. Of course that is what I said about the last guy that wore the crown, but it is going to be hard as hell to dethrone Bill!!

Long live the king!!

I could take it no more last night.  The brake rheostat for my controller was waiting for me when I got home and I brought it down to the shop and tripped on something (air mattress). At that point I decided that something had to be done.  I finally stopped at 10 pm and I'm still not completely done cleaning, chucking and rearranging.  I have filled a 55 gallon garbage sack and have a 12" high stack of flattened cardboard boxes along with a large pile for Salvation Army.  On the plus side, I found the missing wheel/tire for Ninco Megane and the exhaust pipes for the Lotus 49 that have been missing since the last time I decided to burn up my controller by hooking it up backwards.

Re: Bill's Junk

You'd think they would add some protection circuitry to prevent those type of problems.

But always good to do a little straightening up.
