Topic: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Monte & Rico

It's Fly Porsche Evo2 you guys have?

FLYRGEVO2N 07002 Fly - Porsche GT1 1998

Porsche 911 GT1 Evo 3 RACING

This would be for a non-magnetic class?

Does this chassis have a separate motor pod, or is the chassis one piece?

Fly has a few different versions of this car. The Evo3 looks to have a separate motor pod.

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Bill- I have the EVO 3. Fly Ref# 88253 Fly Racing Rally EVO 3. It has the motor pod with suspension and a very small magnet.  It never performed very well at the old Marshall Field but was really fun at Greg Hodges track. It does seem to be better on the current Timba track however

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

NUTZ.  Looks like I got the wrong one.  Mine is the GT1 Evo 2.  But perhaps they are reasonably compatible.  We'll find out.  Anyone want to join us in our Fly Evo class?  Victims welcome...

Here's mine - somewhere in the mail:

You'll note it's listed as for "serious racers only".  No more smiling for me.

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

OK, I'm gettin' jazzed about the Fly "racing" cars. The Porsche GT1 EVO 3 looks pretty trick. Rico, how about some details?

You said it wasn't very good on the old Marshall Field track but better on the new track. So better on a flat track?
It worked good on Greg Hodge's routed track. Have you tried it on a 1/24 routed track yet?

So there are many different "racing" Fly cars. Would a class for any Fly cars work? Something like we started out with at BSCC with the Slot.It cars, only non-magnetic?

I'm thinkin' non-magnetic would even up the different types?

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Mine does not have a pod and has the Evo2 motor.  Rico, what's yours got for a motor?  Same?

Like the Alfa in that first link.  Bill, did you find anyone with a good price on these cars?

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

I've done a lot of looking. Looks like one of these cars is going to cost you around $60 to $70 from any of the hobby shops via their internet sales. The best deals I found were on the Porsche GT1 EVO2 cars, but for $6 to $9 more you can get the EVO3. I found the best prices on Ebay, under Fly Racing, quite a few "Buy-It-Now" deals. The best deal is if you can score a good deal like Monte did on his Porsche GT1 EVO2. Porsche EVO3 chassis are available for $13 (Fantasy World is currently out).

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Monte- Mine has the same motor: Fly Evo2 long can but it does have the motor pod and suspension.
Bill- I meant to run it at Jeff's last Saturday but left it in the car and it was too miserable to get it.  I paid around $55.00 for mine on Ebay quite a while ago, so prices may have gone up. We can compare them at the next race.

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Rico, I wouldn't have gone back to the car either! Man it was cold!!!!

$55 was a good deal! I haven't seen any go for that.

It will be interesting to compare them. Speaking of that, do we have a plan for the upcoming NASTE Thursday?

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

This Thursday is New Year's Eve, probably not a good night to do it.  The next Thursday is the 8th, we have a race on the 10th and BSCC on the 13th and I have already heard "only three days apart, how come?".....she tolerates this pretty well but with all our kids it is hard to corral them by yourself and help is always appreciated.  Don't let me scheduling issues affect the whole group, just let me know what's up and we'll see.

I think the difference between my car and Monte's is that mine was a Fly Racing Kit, with kit being the operative word.  I believe most of the others are RTR.  By the way, in typical Fly fashion, the provided axles would not fit through the rear bushings or fit the wheels, so I had to improvise and stole the ones off of the Spirit Reynard.  It came in a flexible plastic box with foam lining, not a hard case as most do. It has the lexan interior and I think a lighter body as well. I just found this at Electric Dreams: http://electric-dreams.com/Shop/index.php?cPath=48
They might not be that different afterall....

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Oh yeah, forgot about the New Years deal....

The Electric Dreams info says the Evo2s come with metal wheels. Is that true Monte?

Are the Evo3s wheels plastic Rico? SCI indicated they call them something fancy but they're actually plastic.

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Mine are plastic, but I did not use them for the previously stated reasons.  Mine has Spirit "Sport" aluminum wheels and I have no idea what tires. Fly called the plastic strontium or something like that, but appear to just be plastic to me.

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Strontium, that's great!.....Hype impregnated plastic?

I like the looks of the Fly "racing" Porsche 911s also.....

I may wait to see the comparison between your EVO and Monte's to decide on which version to get.

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

I've got aluminum wheels.  I'll get the specs and list them here.

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

I'm thinkin' about pickin' up the Fly Porsche GT1 EVO 2-R, and then buying a separate EVO 3 chassis.

Need to compare Monte's to Rico

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

I have dealt with that eBay seller (Lakotacollectibles) Rico is referring to and I found him pleasant to deal with. I thought he's usually a little on the high side with his pricing but these Fly Evo's seem pretty reasonable in price compared to others.

Since I missed the whole conversation leading up to this thread, are we planning on developing a Fly racing class with these Evo's? What happened to AJ's suggestion of using the new Fly Daytona prototypes? They are "in print", easier to come by and cheaper.

Again, I'm not familiar with what led to this thread, so you can take my comments any way you see fit. ;p

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Rico and I both have the cars so that's what started it.  I personally don't care for the Daytona Prototypes.

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Agreed, they are UGLY!!! But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?

That said, I don't really care for the looks of the EVO Porsches either...

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Fair 'nuff.  I understand exactly where you are coming from which is why we are starting to lean toward a FLY class with a spec motor.

"Big Smooth"

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

Whatever we decide to run, I'm ok with because I have them both.  I ran the DP car at Jeff's 1/24 track and that puppy is fast but needs some development work in the handling dept.  Probably some weight in the right place and maybe some different rear tires.  I did sand the tires a little bit and that did help some but not enough to be a consistent handler.

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

I saw Rico run his Fly "whatchamucallit" at Jeff's. It looked like it has very good potential for racing on routed tracks! It was definately FAST! Even though it was extremely loose, it still seemed to go through the corners well.

Re: Fly Porsche GT1 Evo

If anyone is interested FantasyWorld has one last Fly Racing Kit for $63.74 but it is a Ford Capri with a less than attractive paint livery.
