Re: Califoregon Sportsman

Some of you may have seen this Sportsman car at the race at Monte's Sunday. My plan is to build three more of these for IROC racing here at TooBad Motorplex. The basis of these cars is a NOS - RTR (new old stock - Ready To Run) chassis. I obtained a few of these chassis in a recent purchase. The chassis themselves appear to be Rannalli chassis, but I believe they were blems. The front of the chassis where the axle mounting holes are were cut too short. This leaves only one possible wheelbase of 3 1/2", where the chassis originally had an adjustable wheelbase with three possible postions.

I did some research and testing and so far have found a few bodies that will fit the short wheelbase chassis. The bodies include various styles of the "Sportsman" type body as pictured above. In addition some of the old Dubro and Pactra bodies or re-issues of those will fit, such as the Cheetah.

After building the four cars I need for myself, I will be left with some extra chassis. I am making these available to NASTE members for $20. They are a good running chassis and I have tested them on my track as well as on Monte's track. With the lower voltages we race at they are a lot of fun. The rear tires are not very grippy even after sanding them, but I plan to have other tire options available soon. I found a manufacturer on Ebay for the Sportsman type body I used. Their bodies are thicker and very sturdy. You can see their products here: http://stores.ebay.com/TEAM-BLUEGROOVE? … 7675.l2563 . There are other bodies available from other manufacturers easily found on the internet.

So if you're interested in one of the chassis let me know. Supplies are limited as they say! If you're interested in a chassis and a body, I can probably supply that also for the additional cost of the body (I also have a few extra bodies of various styles and brands).
I would also consider selling cars with the bodies trimmed and mounted, ready for painting as the last finishing touch. In that configuration I'd want $40, that's track ready, you paint it.

Re: Califoregon Sportsman

Here is a picture of the chassis after I made the necessary modifications to mount the Sportsman body.

The chassis is soft metal which makes the necessary modifications very easy. I bent the side body mounts straight up to verticle. I shortened them by trimming them with a pair of tin snips. I then drilled a hole in each one and ran a piece of tubing horizontally through the front pair and the rear pair of mounts. The tubing has an inside diameter the size of a straight pin. Straight pins are used to secure the body to the mounts. The tubing was just glued in place.

Re: Califoregon Sportsman

At the next NASTE race on February 21st at Al's, I will have some of these chassis available for sale. These chassis are ready to run as they come in the bag, and they will be $20 to club members.

Just to note; I have been running and racing my car with the original tires after just a light sanding. They work fine on my track and Monte's. My plan is to have races from time to time for anyone interested in racing thses cars.

Re: Califoregon Sportsman

A nice option, I think these will prove a real hoot!
