Vintage Trans Am Race at The Gorge

Here's mine. This is the first time I have ever put a traction magnet back into a car! I finally found the original stock tires for the rear. Has anyone noticed the stock rear tires on the '70 Camaros are taller and wider than those on the Mustang and '69 Camaro? This '70 is now stock.......... again!

UPDATE: This car turned out to be a total let down. It suffered from NO rear grip as the tires seemed to be glazed over even after being sanded. After just two heats on June 27th I was already over 10 laps down. It was such a pitiful exibition Bob Nakamura took pity on me and loaned me his Scalextric Challenger to compete with. I never did make up the deficit, but managed to move up a couple spots. Good news is Rico blew two motors after which he took this Camaro, put the Rico rub on it and raced it for the remainder of the race. During Rico's stint the Camaro actually appeared to be working rather well. It must just be me. Anyway the Camaro is now back on the work bench gutted and being re-fitted for duty as a traction magnet free racer in the Odd Thursday Night Trans Am Class. Maybe I can do better with it there.......................or maybe not.................we'll see.

Ok, ok.......that photo was taken with the Paul Gage tires on it........HOWEVER, in the process of removing the original tires and then re-installing them I rubbed most of the lettering off!

Thanks to all who attended the race. I had a blast hosting the race and will make it an annual event. It is such a pleasure to have a group of people come to RACE and still help each other out when trouble comes.

I thought that a tire swap would be easier and faster than another motor swap.  That Vic and I survived both of us running the same car and it performed at the finish about like it did st the start was a minor miracle.

Good racing, good food, good friends.

Now what did Jeff do to his car that got 32 laps out of it?

Al Christensen had an excellent drive with his new out of the box stock Scalextric Cougar finishing in 6th place.

Rico Locati blew two motors, switched to my of crappy Camaro, performed some quick massage work, and still managed to post a 5th place finish!

Jeff Fields drove a perfect heat in the Red Lane scoring 32 laps, a new record for the Trans Am cars at The Gorge! Jeff finished in 4th Place.

John Gill drove a consistant and fast race to finish in the 3rd spot.

Monte where-did-he-come from Saager drove an outstanding race, overcoming a multitude of obstacles to finish in 2nd Place!

Bob Nakamura, race host and director, and just plain FAST racer finished in 1st Place. A well deserved win!
