Topic: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

When you are routing a "really straight" straight, an eight foot stud grade 2 X 4 is not an appropriate straight edge!.................Oh yeah..........CRAP!!!!

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

I have a good aluminum straight edge for routing if you want to borrow it.

Race cars are neither beautiful nor ugly. They become beautiful when they win.

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

Thanks Rico, I do too, but I needed something about 7 1/2 feet long...................the 2 X 4 was good and straight.....except where the knots were! After I routed the straight it all came back to me.....oh yeah!!! Done this before!!!   A little wave in long straights looks kinda cool and the cars don't notice. My 2 X 4 made straights with little bumps.............cars probably would've  looked like they were dodging squirrels!!!!

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

Mine is at least 8' long- the offers still there.

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

That sounds like something I would have done.  Working on it today?

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

Rico - Cool ! I have a couple more long straights to do later. I'll get a hold of you when I get that far and see if I can come and get it. Thanks!

Monte - I will probably get in a little work on it today. I have to take the trailer and dump it this morning. And Diane and I have an appointment at 5:00 pm, so I'll probably try to sneak so work in from about 10:30 to 3:30 pm.................

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

I keep it at the 8-plex that you helped me on for the furnace and the gas leak.  It can be broken down into two pieces so it will fit in the Toaster.

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

Cool Rico, thanks!!! It maybe a week or so before I get that far along....

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

Today's lesson...............Double check to be SURE you're guide is secure........................ definitely a decreasing radius turn!!!!!........too bad a car wouldn't go through it !!!!!!

BONDO........Second only to WD40!!!!

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

Me thinks you might be a little out of practice.........

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

When do we get to see some progress pictures?  We want proof!

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

Not much to see yet..............just a bunch of MDF with slots cut into it.......

I should have the lanes for the hilltop section done today....................that's about 1/3 of the layout....

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

To steel or not to steel.......................that is the question!...............................

Comments?????

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

I'm not sure I understand the dilemma.

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

Well my original plan was to inlay steel like I did on my routed HO track. The thought being you could run magnetic traction cars also. However I have found on my HO track I don't enjoy racing the magnetic cars much......

On the reverse side, without the steel you don't have to worry about anyone cheating by installing traction magnets in a non-magnetic class....Plus I'll be able to complete the track sooner!

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

No steel !!!

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

Jeez, I thought it was Multi Directional Fibre.

Hey Bill, it's a LOT lighter if you put them down.  BTW crap out both ends? Probably in your special case.

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

I'll edit that to read; one at a time!!!!............w/crap only out one end!!!!

Re: Lessons we sometimes re- learn...

It's been a good weekend for track work. I've got over 55 feet of 3 lane routed so far, which includes eight curves and one 9 foot straight. So far there are only three other straights, none of which are over 3 feet. Up to this point the tightest curve is 8 inch radius for the inside lane. The hilltop section is all routed, next I'll be starting on the lower infield section.   ---------------Bill
