Topic: How I Spent My Weekend

Those of you that were at the First Sunday race noticed a few "rough" edges on the track, notably where the cars crossed over the connection areas.  In fact crossed over is just about the fate that faced some of those cars.  Head-on collisions caused by rough track was unacceptable.  So we decided to do something...

On Friday night I got out some sandpaper and a few sanding blocks and went to work.

After a hard evening of sanding the supervisors show up promptly on Saturday morning to check progress.  Finding no code violations, we were allowed to proceed.

Making those creases go away...  But what to do to make those sections blend?

Monday
Tape, tape and more tape.  I got these corners down!

Monday Evening
A huge thanks to Victoria for her help in this project.

The paint is Ralph Lauren River Rock and it honestly feels about like sandpaper.  Grip should be tremendous!

So what did you do this weekend?

Nice work Monte and Victoria.  Our bathroom is painted with that stuff and it does feel and look like sandpaper.  I hope that the grip level does not become too much to handle.  Have you been able to test it yet?

Re: How I Spent My Weekend

No.  First we need to debate a second coat.  From what I read on the boards, it sounds like this is a good choice for standard rubber and urethanes which are my tire of choice anyway.  Probably won't need to true up the tires any more either.  The track should do that...

Re: How I Spent My Weekend

Is this a private debate or are you going to turn the rest of us loose on the track and then make a determination?  Did all the track joints get sanded or just those two seen in the pictures?

Re: How I Spent My Weekend

All the joints got sanded smooth as glass.  We'll find out if the slots need work once we start running cars again.  And no, the debate is not open to public consumption.  It's a matter of how solid the coloring looks.  It might be just fine as it is.

Yes, as is, it is.  The tape has been pulled and I'll probably give it a try a little later.

We ran cars around a bit, then Monte went over every inch of braid with alcohol, ran a bit more - much better. Cars seem to like the new surface. Today I'll touch up paint while Monte gets the wall ready to paint. AJ, have you got your concept sketches ready?

Looks great guys, but now the big question.  Did it help with the deslots?
