It rumble in the Basement to night. The weather heating up and the racing on the track also Revo Slot and Lemans on the menu tonight.
Ok, traffic just sucked on Thursday took me two hours to make the trip from Canby to Al. Normal drive is 30 min. So not sure if that was a factor in the low turn out or not. We just had enough to corner and race wo 5 brave souls fighting portland traffic. Up 1st was Lemans and it was a fight cat fight all down the running order with Doc taking the win followed by Al then Rico. Up next was the revo slots, different cars same results.and finally we had open and Doc pulled out the broom and went for the sweep with Greg taking a hard earned 2nd followed by Rico. Al had a really fast car but one forced off and putting the wrong lane sticker cost him dearly.. next time up it will be trans am and the madden race for the slot it dtm cars. These is going to a very interesting race do to the fact that are so even and so little tuning to be done. Going come down to who ever can stay clean and in the slot.

Yea? Whats that smell? Can be the smell of victory or is that the bitter smell of defeat that is lingering in the air? OR could it be the smell of hope that all the late night testing and tuning will finally pay off and that long waited 1st win will come to pass. Maybe it non of those and It is Al smoking up some fresh meat for all to enjoy has relive or youth and play with toy slot cars and remember old friends that are gone but not forgotten.
RACE REPORT FOR MAY 25 2023. Fresh off the wire.............. we had 5 racers that battle the Portland traffic to do battle on the track. Up 1st was slot it dtm and with it being a spec class the racing was expected to be close and it was for the most part. Rico car stood out as the car to beat if you want to stand on the top step and he backed it up with a easy two lap win over Doc in 2nd and Greg third Rico was the only driver that could run in the high 6's during practice and during the race.everybody else was stuck in the 7 so easy win for Rico. He can say he took the 1st win in the class. Wtg..up next was Trans am and Rico was again showed that he a fast car in practice but bad luck with a guild wire coming off dropped him down the running order . At the end it was Doc taking the win followed by Al and then Dave.last race of the night was thunder slot open and these one was a close race with everybody putting down low 6 secounds laps with the win coming down to the last heat and tenths counted on the track Doc once again was able to squeeze out the win by 2 tenths over Al followed by Greg in 3rd . That it for the night guys back up and headed home. Thanks Once again for hoisting the race Al
Thanks for the write up Doc. I'm pushing to include DTM as a points class next season ;-) Bad luck indeed on the guide wire. Thanks for the help on the '69 it's much better now that the chassis is not trying to separate itself.
Rico
This coming Thursday is the 1st but I see nothing on the calendar. Are we taking a break or just an oversight?

I believe it the last points race. Me and Al were talking about the same thing. He just needs to put more on the calendar so no break
My Bad, yes we will be racing on Thursday June 1st. I got the date wrong on the printed schedule. We will run Slot.it Group C and Revoslots. The Revoslot race will be the last points race of the season.
Oooops, Al
Last point race of the year and it did end with out a little excitement and drama added at the end.it was another light turn out with only 5 racers making it out. We were hoping for more with many saying there were coming out. Either Al checks didn't clear or traffic was a issue. We will never know which was the case. So up 1st was group c slot it and Doc car was the class of the field and took a easy win over the field. Up next was the money race and once again Doc had the car to beat. Doc started out in the white lane so he would have to wait and see were every body was running before coming in on the last heat of the night. Doc had a 2 lap cushion on the field and if could back up what he ran in the 1st two heats he was home free. What that saying never count your chickens before they hatch. Well all night I been preaching make sure you hook up your controller correct and what do I do. Yep I did it. The green flag Flys and full blast into the turn 1 wall look down and see it hooked up wrong. Get it hooked up correctly and find I smoked the brake pot. So least to say red lane with no brakes is some what of a challenge to run. Rico ended up taking the win followed By Al and Doc taking 3rd . That was the end of the night of racing .in the end Al got the bad luck he was looking for but not enough guys on the track to make up the points lead Doc had. Even so the turn out were on the light side the racing was ways very close and fun. Hopefully we start to get people to start coming back out and racing the 1/32 cars. See you all in two weeks

Congratulations Doc on winning the 2023 NASTE Championship!
Another fun close night of racing at Al's place last night. We had 6 racer make out to do battle on the track and it was a battle.up 1st was sports car 1 and with 14k motors and skinny tires you had to drive the car like you stole it to make time so there was lot of forced errors trying to make time around the track. Doc pulled out is trusted ninco Cobra and was able to squeeze out the win over Al's smoking smooth running brass chassis Cobra followed by Greg's equally prepaid birdcage. Up next was slot it classic and to say these wasn't a interesting race would be a under statement. Race came down to a Ford vs Ferrari battle and unlike the movie the ford's did not come out on top..both top running ford's had driver forced errors resulting in confused corner workers fumbling with cars and important time loss. Trying to get the the cars back into the race. We all learned a very important lesson some of more than once. In the end Rico stood tall and very happy on the top step followed by Al and then Doc. Last race of the night was open class and these class is dominant by thunderslot cars. These race was a battle all night with cars just mm apart on the track and there was lots of painted traded and cars sent into the rails in the close battles. There was very little quarter given.you had to pick your pass with great care and hope to get away to the next corner and hope you could hold onto your lead. In the end Doc was able to hold off some hard charging cars and take the win. I think Al took 2nd followed by Rico and Gregg. But that race was crazy with how intense the racing was. Next race in two weeks is can am and trans am.

Looking ahead, the calendar has a race scheduled at Al's on July 6th. Is this correct? Understand I have no problem with it, but it is out of the norm. If correct, I will be looking forward to it since I have to miss this week's race due to our 38th anniversary.
That might be a typo should be the 07 13 23.have to give Al a text and make sure.
Al reports it is a typo will need it changed to 07 13 23
Date on calendar corrected , from July 6th to July 13th.
What's that smell in the air ?. Could be hi octane fuel and exhaust from 800 hp v 8 engines warming up I. The afternoon sun...get those thundering monsters from the golden Era of onload racing tuned up for battle...
That smell didn't come from the "crack of doom" did it?
That smell didn't come from the "crack of doom" did it?
yep nobody every said my gas smelled like hi octane fuel. More inline with swamp gas..
We had another fun night racing. We had 6 racer make the drive out with one of them being his 1st time out. Bruce been running ho cars with the local ho club so he knew his way around a slot car track. So after a some practice we threw him in and started the racing for the night. Up 1st was Trans am and Doc some how took the win over Al with Dave on the last step. Up next was Can Am there were some fast cars but to many forced errors Doc car wasn't the fastest one but was quick enough and three mistake free rounds to take a easy win over Al and Greg taking 3rd. We lost two drivers so track call were in order for the last race of the night
It all came down to the last heat of the night. Doc had one tenth lead and both Al and Doc lined up side by side in the two fast lanes. The start buzzer sounded and off they went for 3min racing side by side the whole way neither able to pull more than a few car lengths from each other and when the time counted down to zero Doc able coast and finish half a car length in front of Al and hold par for the win. It close and a clean heat with both drivers keeping there cars in the slot and keeping of each other . Great racing there Al.. that was it for the night see you all in two weeks.
