Put Oct. 12 on your calendar. The NASTE IROC Race No. 12 will be held at Stan's track in Newberg. Thank you, Stan, for hosting!

We are considering the following dates for First Sunday Races at Penguin Point Raceway:

Nov. 3
Dec. 1
Jan. 5
Feb. 2
Mar. 1

Any conflicts?

Since there is no host for the IROC race tentatively scheduled for this coming Saturday, it will be canceled.

Ditto Race No. 11 on October 12, unless someone offers to host it.

When? Saturday, October 29?

Where? Howies?

Just wondering. And planning ahead.

Sounds like the next NASTE IROC will be Sept. 18 at Jacquelin Park in Hillsboro. What's the date for the next one and who is hosting?

I don't oft enter this forum, but here's my two cents' worth.

The weekend NASTE races should be laid back, stress free fun. A nice afternoon with family and friends. The races should be IROC, maybe with a twist or a theme. No points, no trophies, maybe announce the top 3 and the "most improved" or whatever the host may wish to recognize.

I've got this idea for a triathalon. Three races on analog, three races on Wii MarioCart, three races on digital. Doesn't that sound like fun?

I'm okay with a mix of Saturdays and Sundays, but prefer Saturdays. Doors open no sooner than noon or 1 p.m. Once a month seems like enough to me, taking a few months off.

At our current NASTE races, most folks usually bring some food item to share, but the host provides a meal and hospitality. I'd be in favor of adding to that a $ per person hospitality contribution. Then there's the host cars provided for IROC. Should the host be compensated? Should the IROC cars be owned by NASTE?

Hopefully there are enough of us with tracks who can host the NASTE social series. Monte won't call it that, but I will. This really is just for fun. If those of us who want to play this game will step up, we can put together a schedule for the upcoming series.

Monte will likely be interested in Thursday night races, but I'll pass. The weekend social events are of more interest to me. That's my 2 cents.

You are invited to join Monte and Victoria for the fourth annual Ribs 'n Racin' at Jacquelin Park. Come prepared to share good food, enjoy good company, experience exhilarating team racing, and just generally have a good time. And come hungry.

Chef Monte has some cookin' to do! He plans to serve the best ribs he's ever made, pulled pork, burgers and dogs. Victoria will chop up some slaw and set out the buns and condiments. Sides and desserts are pot luck. Please bring a side dish, dessert or beverage to share.

Four teams will be formed to compete in a four-hour digital enduro. Prior experience not required. Cars and controllers provided. Prizes for winning team members!

We'll have Mario Cart Wii set up. And Upwords!

Fun for all ages. Well mannered children and pets welcome.

Schedule
11:30 a.m. - Doors open, track opens for practice, team signup opens
12 noon - Lunch, team signup closes
12:30 p.m. - Teams announced, rules discussed, team colors donned, team strategies planned, knives sharpened
1:00 p.m. - Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!
3:15 p.m. - Afternoon snack break
3:30 p.m. - Racing resumes
5:30 p.m. - Racing concludes, grazing, analog track open
6:00 p.m. - Awards

Could this be the end of the First Sunday Series? Of Penguin Point Racing?

Thank you, Howie, for hosting last night. Had a great time. Enjoyed the dogs and chocolates (separately), and especially the kahlua and koffee! My purple car was a bit squirrely...hmmm, now there's an idea for next year.

Monte discovered my "bright" idea won't work for my Halloween car. ;-(

But it will all be alright - just not as loud or as bright as I'd hoped. It retains its most redeeming feature, though. It's purple!

Oh, this is where you all have been chatting about tonight's race! If they are still needed, I can bring plates, napkins and forks. I'm bringing fork-food - an Italian meatball pasta dish. Is there a beverage plan?

Are we still talking about what cars to run for the next Sunday Series? Let's run purple cars!

Doors open at 1 p.m., racing starts at 2 p.m. Beans and Rice with ham and sausage is on the Soup Series menu. Wii and word games will be available. Ring in the New Year at Penguin Point!

"...mere mention..." Hardly! Monte chased a three-foot tall Blue Heron out from under the netting we'd placed over and around the pond. All the big ones were still there. Might be missing a small goldfish or two.

We ran cars around a bit, then Monte went over every inch of braid with alcohol, ran a bit more - much better. Cars seem to like the new surface. Today I'll touch up paint while Monte gets the wall ready to paint. AJ, have you got your concept sketches ready?
