More photos from Paul Kassens:

Thank you to Paul Kassens (Old Weird Herald) for these great photos and information:
"2004 InSlot Raceway / Checkered Flag OSCAR Club Track - Portland Oregon. A visit during 2004 USRA Div 2 Nats week at Raceway USA. Track owner Kirk Smith, "Bad Bob" McFarland, & local hotshot James Laconto, all from Portland. Paul Kassens & Craig Rieland from Seattle, with visitors Paul Sterret and the late Monty "Big O" Ohren up from SoCal... all took some hot laps with 1/24 Hard Body cars on the custom built 4 lane club track."
The track was originally built and located at Kirk Smith's house in Milwaukie Oregon.

This is the original configuration of the curves leading onto the main straight.
I used to feel that way about the original unpainted cars, being concerned about "collector" value. But I have finally come to realize pretty much ANY old car is available on Ebay at some point in perfect original condition! So what the hell....paint the thing!
One class Bob is going to be introducing for this track is 1980's NASCAR bodies on Econo chassis. I think this will be a fun class!
Chris only does "other" colors by special request!..........AND bribing!
New lights have been installed and preparations are being made for upcoming races!

I received the latest update from Bob Nakamura yesterday. Test laps have been run on Springwater Raceway!

A very good deal!
And for good reason Rico! You have a good one!..............I refuse to buy another one!!!
Interesting.......looks like you can use it to saw 1/32 scale lumber also!
This is Zack's Classic Sports Car Div.II winning Slot.it Ford GT40. This car is totally awesome!...Oh yeah, paint by Chris Kouba!

Al (L) preparing for his next heat race, while Jeff (R) monitors the hairpin turn.
Al just let the smoke out of his controller while Mitch complains about the smell!

Scalextric GT3 cars.....I HATE 'em!

Another Odd Thursday Night race at Rippin' Ridin' Raceway and the first round for the GT3 Class in the point series. The night started with a Classic Sports Car Div.II race. Zack Morgan is one of NASTE's newer members but it would appear Zack already has some tuning skills down! Zack loaned me his Slot.it GT40 to race and I'll tell you, it is the best handling Div.II cars I have ever raced! Div.II is the class for the next point series race and everyone needs to watch out for Zack, he is coming!
Classic Sports Car Div.II
1 Bill 77.4 Laps
2 Daniel 76.1
3 Zack 72.0
4 Rico 71.8
5 Al 71.2
6 Mitch 69.1
7 Monta 65.3
8 Stan 64.1
9 Jeff 62.4
Next the GT3 cars were sent to the grid. *Update: I didn't forget my car...but I kinda wish I had! Did I mention I HATE these cars?...However, these cars do provide for some pretty close racing....IF you happen to buy a good one! Ok, enough from the soapbox....Rico got his second straight win in the point series with a 70.7 lap total. Al came in second just 3/10 of a lap behind. Doc captured the last podium spot completing 67.5 laps.

I completed the paint touch up this morning.
Next up is VACATION!
....Then back to work......on the track..
*Note to self, and any first time track builders: When designing an overpass make provisions for any possible future work, like re-braiding, or repairs. I realized this area is going to be a bitch to work on when I re-painted the braid recess through here. If I had extensive work to do through here I would either remove the banked curve, or at a minimum jack up one end of it to gain clearance.
The first coat of paint is down.
From conversing with a professional track builder, I learned the correct terminology for what I was calling the braid lands. The correct term is braid recess or gain. It took me about 3 hours to paint the braid recesses where damage had occurred when the braid was pulled up. I'm hoping the fresh paint will prevent future damage to the braid recess.

I feel a future class coming on.............
I think I'm gonna barf!......
I finished up scraping all the old glue residue off the braid recesses. I ended up with about another 20 feet of braid to replace. One section of braid on the red lane from the 180 degree curve at the bottom of the banked curve, all the way under the overpass and around to the bottom short straight came up. The glue for that section of braid had totally let loose. Oh well, better to find it now! Tomorrow I will do a little clean up and prep work, and then it's time for paint!
HEY, you're holdin' out!
