Well, the idea is that it will be the same for everyone.  With the limit of two races per track even the 1/24 guys are going to have to branch out.  I imagine the HO guys might have an even tougher time finding enough HO events.  And maybe there's the possibility of running a 1/32 scale race on a larger type wood track.  We just have to pick the track(s) and work out the details with the track owner.

It's very possible for folks to get out and get enough events that it will come down to the final three days of IROC to decide the champ.  Consider that the PSSRA folks race EVERY Wednesday.  But once again, there's the track limit.  Max of 2 counting results per track.

And of course the more events you run at a variety of tracks, then the more chance you have of getting a group of good results to add to your score.

Bottom line, most of us will have to go outside our particular "field".

And what's wrong with that?

We haven't even addressed the drag racers...  Where's Jeff?

I firmly support this.

At the conclusion of the NASTE Cup "season".  We'll also hold the three final EXTRA counting events.  One in each scale run IROC style.  The finale is planned for three consecutive nights with many other features included as well.  Consider it a slot car year end banquet with all the trimmings.

As for sanctioning, the event would have to be posted to the NASTE site at least one month prior to the event to give everyone interested a fair opportunity to attend.

That also prevents situations where Monte and Victoria go out into the garage and call it a race...

And if Bill left out your club or organization, our goal is to make this available to any within the Northwest - Oregon, Washington or Idaho.

Bill and I had a very interesting conversation yesterday regarding the upcoming NASTE season.  We'd like to get some comment from others.  Bill, want to start out with what we have in mind or should I?

I'm with you all the way.  Cheap would be my choice whenever possible.  But I would probably do better to take up whittling as a hobby.  There's always another car, controller, something calling to me.  I try to draw my limit at < $50 mark unless it's something that I think is special that appeals to the collector in me.  I think Gubi said it well that slot cars can appeal to us in different ways.  And so it is.  Sometimes I'm a collector but mostly I'd prefer to be a racer and builder.  I'm happy to wait on a $75 car and look for a used version at less than $50.  Since I mostly run them, used always works well for me.  But I also want to play so it sometimes doesn't take long for the price of a $40 car to quickly escalate.

I like the fact that I can get an SCX COT for less than $50 fully modified for the season.  At the end of the year I can probably get half the cost back selling the car off if it survives.  Not so bad for a season of entertainment.  Who knows, it might even be a keeper.

And if you do see a $50 price tag on one of those Cochon Rose's contact me ASAP!

Ok, the rules have been posted.  Let's get those car ready!  The plan is to end the season with a team Enduro.  More on that as we get closer to it.

Howie, is there any kind of schedule yet?

That was a great time and a fun group.  Y'all missed out on a good one.  Bill and I were able to be pretty competitive.  Why, had the motor not fried on my car in the last heat...  woulda, coulda, shoulda...

I hope we can go back there again next year.

It did take some time to get used to the 1/24 scale track with the 4 different driving stations.  It almost seened like 4 different tracks.

Yes, do be careful removing them, you can damage the pod.

So what do you think?  Should we run the standard RX42 and save the 10 bucks or opt to go with the faster motor and spend the extra money?  Since Randy hasn't ordered cars yet, now is the time to decide.

My vote is to go with the better motor.

Howdy friends of the slot.  I just got off the phone with Dave Kennedy from SCX who called me to make more clear the policy on the RX42B motors that we intend to use for the Beaverton Slot Car Club summer season.

Here's the OFFICIAL policy:

If you buy a car that was last year's (2008) model that was intended to have an RX42B and it does not, SCX will replace it.

However if you get this year's model which was not intended to have an RX42B in the first place then there is no replacement, you will need to purchase one.

I also confirmed that the price of the motor is to be $9.99, not the $14.99 as currently listed on Fantasy World.

So if you are planning to buy a NEW car then you are probably more than likely going to have to buy an additional motor.  If you can find a new one from last year, it will either have the RX42B or if not, qualify for a free replacement.

Dave apologized for the confusing information that has been circulated and if you have any questions please contact me or Tony at Fantasy World.

We also tested the new and old version of the SCX cars at Bill's Too Bad Raceway last night and found them to be nice, smooth runners on a wood track with no magnets or extra weight added.  This should prove to be a fun class.

Do we have any pictures?

Filmed by Dave Kennedy on his recent visit to SCX in Spain.

short clip of a Spanish slot car legend

Like he says - throw those magnets away once you learn to run the car around the track and then you can really start to learn to drive!

Ok, the race is over and let the whoofing begin.  Here now, the class of the field as expertly piloted by Timba and the Big Smooth as part of Team TBD in their exciting victory in the Timba Classic Enduro - The Amish Rocket:

The angle winder with it's improved magnet position and glued and trued S1 tires worked quite well.  Especially after we removed the zero grip fronts and went back to the stock ones.  And a big thanks to all the members of TBD - Byron (Dad, were's my car?), Jack and especially Timba.  We really kept that car flying last last hour or so.

Thanks to Randy for acting as host and race director and Myrna for feeding us some great food!  It was a fun day.

I'm happy to report the Rocket suffered no permanent damage...  Four coats of Future does wonders.

If you go to the Beaverton Slot Car Club site you'll find all the info listed under the Timba Classic.  I know the rules require you to have a car but I'm betting if you have the entry fee that will suffice.  ;-)  Email me and we can discuss this further.

I'm in Hillsboro.  Stop on by one of these days and I can fill you in on the entire scene locally.  There is plenty of racing.  I'll be at an Enduro tomorrow in Beaverton if you'd like to stop on by and check that out.
