Sorry we missed you.  I could have used someone else to try and beat that Rico guy.

A frisky group of 11 racers turned up for the June race and a great time was had by all.  And a special thanks to those that stayed around after to help us run the TLOR proxy.

Here now the results from a day with shorter heats (1.5 mins each)

1.  Rico  81 pts.
2.  Monte  78
3.  Timba  71
4.  Dave Smith  70
4.  Greg "Greenman" 70
6.  Paul  69

I know we  have an IROC series planned for the summer season using the Mustangs that Greg is building up but since we have these Slot.It cars pretty well dialed in I thought I'd ask what folks think about having another team season like the one we did with the SCX NASCAR's using the Slot. It's the following season - the one after the Mustangs?  I think it would be a good time and provide some exciting results.

I think the 10V non-mag racing is giving us our closest results so far.  Speeds are reasonably sane and cars are controllable.  You notice we aren't breaking near as many pieces as we did with the Fly's nor having to spend as much time fixing them.

So what'cha think?

Yes, the season has concluded.  Next up is the big gala event - the 4 hour Digital Enduro the first Sunday of August that will also be a NASTE planning meeting for next year.  We invite all interested parties to join us.  It should be just that, a party.

Thank you very much.  I'm sure Bryan will be glad to take the target off.

Thank you very much.  I think I should send Dorothy and Kathy a gift.

Actually I finished the season two points ahead of Bryan.  I was third, he finished 7th.  Now had he only showed up for the Enduro...  And that really was a thrashing he got in this last race.  Those girls were brutal.

Yes, it was a surprising night.  We'll look forward to Dorothy and the video evidence!  Thanks Larry and Lynette.  The Slingshot seems more like Pinball Alley.  I had no idea BYOB meant bring your own belts.

You're probably right.  Just my luck - a card stock artist.

C'mon, you can find a lexan one.  Card stock is just so cheesy.

Any objection with sticking with the Ninco's for the remainder of the year?  Most people already have one of those.  I've also got an ample amount of loaner cars.

We are happy to announce a 4-hour Team Enduro on our digital track for the first Sunday in August, the 7th rather than our regularly scheduled first Sunday event.  We will also be offering a pot-luck style lunch.  It promises to be an entertaining day.  We hope you can make it.  Watch this space for further details.

Tentative schedule:

11:30 am: Track opens for practice
12:00 am: Lunch is served - food will be available throughout the day
1:00 pm: First heat begins
4:00 pm: Final heat begins
5:00 pm: Race concludes (approx.)

All are welcome to attend.  The price of admission: bring a side dish or something edible to share.

Works for me.  I've got an entire can of purple paint.  Any other restrictions?

Hmmm, a good point there.  So what's our next choice?  I'm open to suggestions.

Point well taken.  I think low-cost and high-availability would be attractive for a group.

So I did a little studying.  I think the Scalextric line of Crash-Resistant cars is the way to go.  Those are the ones with the blacked out windows.  There's a reasonable variety and also quite a group of them available on ebay.  Cars would include:

Porsche 997
Ferrari F430
Lamborghini Gallardo
McLaren MP4-12C
Audi R8 LMS GT3
Mini Cooper
Nissan GT-R
Jaguar XKR GT3
Range Rover (why not!)

Probably a few others that I don't know about but basically any of the Scaley cars with the blacked out windows and the 18k motor.

Should also be enough liveries available that we won't all have the same car.  And since most of us will have to buy a car, some of us may have to buy more than one, at least the cost is reasonable.  I haven't seen one listed over $35 with many under $30.

I say we run them for 6 months.  The first three months they stay stock except for tires.  The last three you can also change the wheels and gears, maybe a few other things.

Give me your thoughts.

That really was a great crowd and a great day of weather.  It was nice to be able to leave the garage door open for a change.  Victoria and I would like to thank all of you for coming out to play with us.  Here now, today's results:

1.  Rico Locati 104
1.  Monte Saager 104
3.  Dave Smith 96

7.  Paul Painter 89
8.  Victoria Saager 86
9.  Len Gillean 84
9.  Don 84
11.  Dorothy Abbott 80
12.  Devyn 78

You're right, they are all over the place, that would be the beauty.  And probably allow most of us to already have a car.  I'd probably have to give some consideration to the motor.  I recall some of those slim cans were pretty quick.  But as we've learned, a fast car is not always an advantage on a short, tight track.

Ok, toward the thought of different brands, I think we'll aim for something like this:

GT Class
Any sort of a GT car (coupe - ie. car with a hard top) with a max motor limit of 22k, no-mag.  This could be a car from one of the following manufacturers:
Ninco
SCX
Scalextric
Carrera

Let's leave out Slot.It and NSR or that's what we'll be running.

OR

Revell/Monogram Class
Open to any stock Mono/Revell car with upgrades allowed to tires, maybe a few others, no-mag.  I figure we all have some of these sitting around.

OR

CanAm Class
Any CanAm car with 20K motor limit.  No Slot.It.

Who's got a preference?  I know I've got a few GT cars that could use some track time.  My Revell-o-gram's have hardly ever been run.  I'm sure I've got a few CanAm cars that could use a run too.

Any other thoughts?  We'll switch after June.

Both the food and the racing were great.  We have a wonderful time, thanks again!

I know Scaley track will eventually show power loss through the track joints.  We usually figure about every 10-12 pieces you might want to have a jumper for the analog track but Flip can tell you better than I.
