Credit goes to Mr. AJ for the photo's.  Victoria rustled the livestock before we could save 'em.  We have manged to locate a rare mountain pig along with the equally rare African mounatain lion.  We have also secured the rights to Bobalou the Ape and Spot the Giraffe.  The Hills' have gone Safari! wink

Hey Jack,  Thanks for a fun evening and the yummy food.  The kids and I had fun.

I'll be there

I'm sorry Victoria- I should have known better!

So, I take it if we have the SCX Regional qualifier it will be a different date?  I personally think that is for the best.  One big event at a time.

Rico

First I think we need to find out how many people are commited to the Regional race?  AJ and I are interested plus Monte, that's only three.  How many do we need to have to run a successful qualifier? I would think somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-12 racers.  So let's hear from you people!\

One addition to Bill's soldering technique for those who not proficient at soldering like me. I melted a chassis the first time I tried to solder the motor tabs.  The copper strips are attached to the chassis at the rear by sliding under a tab molded into the chassis.  You can take a thin bladed screwdriver and slip it under the copper strip and GENTLY lift up so as to not kink/bend the strip.  Once the strip is loose I place a popsicle stick under it while soldering to help prevent the chassis from melting.  The one downside to this method is that is it can be difficult to slide the cooper strip back under the tab once the motor tabs and the strip are soldered together.  I usually use some pressure from the rear with a small screwdriver or a pick with a 90' bend at the tip.  Keep pressure from the rear until the strip bends enough to slip under the tab.

Been trying to think again?

I'm not sure where to begin.  You all make some valid points, some of which I agree with and some I do not.  This whole team approach was billed as a way to let slower/less experienced racers have a taste of success.  Has this objective been accomplished? Not really.  The teams with the two most evenly matched racers were mostly the ones that had success- the teams from the middle of the pack.  This is just as I predicted.  The fuel management configuration made it nearly impossible for the faster racers to make up lost time by reducing the amount of time they actually had to race.  At one point I was told by Randy that the faster racers would have to try even harder to be fast to compensate for their teamates.  While this may have happened they were penalized for doing so- not fair!

It has been suggested to change the fuel consumption to a fixed rate, but I have to agree with Monte that the faster racer will use less time to burn the same amount of fuel.  This changes nothing but the variable and the end result is the same- the faster racer gets short changed time wise.  His solution is to run fixed time which is fair to all racers on that basis.  My feeling is that just turns the whole thing into a series of short heat races that have racers lap totals arbitrarily lumped together to form quasi teams which brings me to my next point.

Myself and others are very unclear as to who we will be racing with for the next race.  The rules offer no help "Then on the 3rd race, we look again at the seedings and replace the teams according to their seedings from the 1st race."  Huh?  Won't the seedings from the first race still be the same? How do you replace the teams with different ones using the same seeding?

What was the point of the seeding race if new racers are placed randomly on teams?  Once again, the rules offer no explanation.  Monte asserts that new racers should be placed in the middle to prevent an unfair swing in the balance of power.  Doesn't placing them randomly affect the balance of power?  In fact, all pairings and/or different pairings will affect the outcome and the balance of power.  I believe he is transfering the statement "If there is an odd racer (raise your hand if you are NOT an ODD racer), he will end up in the middle of the standings and they will race by themselves for the whole race" to mean that is where unseeded racers are placed.  I take the statement to mean that if there is an odd number of racers then the odd racer out races alone.  I do not see any rules governing unseeded racers.  My personal opinion is that they should race alone like the "odd" racer.  The results could be used a sort of seeding for the next race.

I know I raised alot of questions and I don't pretend to have all the answers, but one possible solution is one that is not going to be palatable to many of you and that is to just go out and race heads up and have a blast doing so. What is so wrong with that?

George- I agree that the Scaley guide flag set up is not the best, but I have several older Scaley cars that use it and have had no problems.  There are several posts on SCI that deal with the issues you mention.  Scalextric is aware that the Chinese manufacturer is possibly using a more brittle plastic than what is spec'd and are looking into the matter.  Several people have contacted Scalextric USA and have recieved replacement chassis, however you must be persistant.  This is one of the reasons we are going to run the SCX Nascar instead of the Scalextric ones.  Several chassis broke during testing on simple spin outs, and proved not durable enough for Randy's liking.

I would like to throw out a BIG THANK YOU to Bill and Monte for planning and officiating another season.  This would also go out to all the track owners who let us use and abuse their tracks.  I still think my favorite race was the Blizzard Bash at Jeff's.  Here's to next year!

While preparing my SCX Nascar for the BSCC summer season I had a slight thermal incident with a soldering iron and melted part of the chassis.  A quick internet search revealed that no one seemed to be selling a bare chassis.  I sent an e-mail to the technical department at SCX.  In about an hour I had a reponse asking for more information.  I replied and the next morning I had a follow up e-mail asking for my address and a confirmation of the problem.  Yesterday after a long day at work I arrived home to find a package from SCX.  They had sent a replacement for free even though I only enquired about being able to purchase a chassis.  What EXCELLENT customer service.  SCX rocks!!!

Does it have to be a race series?  Let's say Monte and Victoria have a digital event Jeff has a 1/24 event and Bryan T has a HO event, would these count?  Would the PSSRA enduro's count?  There is just no way I can see being able to devote myself to 5 separate series.  Let's face it- you are not going to go to a new series with new/loaner/rental car and dominate the series, so your Naste Champ points are going to be from dissapointing finishes for the most part. Do the final 3 races count towards the total number of races?

I like it- mostly.  I have many 1/32 cars so it will be easy for me to do those races, but I have no competitive HO, 1/43 or 1/24 cars. Unless some of the other race series have loaner cars, I will have to bear the expense of fielding cars for a handful of races.  I just don't have enough time to devote to 5 different series.  I have a feeling this may prove difficult for many of us.  I also think it might be a rough go placing well in series you are not familiar with, especially if you are only able to run a few times.  I know there are some excellent competitors in some of the local series and some abroad for that matter.

Just some initial thoughts
