She has quite the collection of racing trophies now. The Hammer needs a new nickname. smile

Thanks, Bill. When I joined you guys I said I was a player more than a racer. I guess that isn't too true anymore. I will always enjoy playing with slot cars, but having a great group to race with makes it even better. tongue

Rico, my thanks to you and Kelly for making the season finale another great night of racing and dining. Bill, thanks for all you do to keep this group going. I always compared myself to Mark Martin, as he was one of the best drivers to never win a championship. I really wanted to skip the last race in Salem to make it interesting, but the wife nixed that idea. Maybe I'll go with Alan Kulwicki, the driver who showed up for every race and did his best, which ended up being just enough to win.

I had fun with all of the cars. Like Mr. Bill said, they act very much like large t-jets, even the BRM cars. Probably no wonder then that the podium was swept by people who have done a lot of t-jet racing. What I found funny was that someone would complain about a certain car and the next driver would not have a problem with it. Chris had trouble with the white 55 just before I got it and drove it well, and I had problems with the yellow BRM while others drove it well. I think the problem was once you got a car loose a couple of times, it just needed some laps to get a little grip back. I wouldn't change tires on any of them. They all worked great and we didn't need any repair time on cars or the track. That makes things go smoooooth.

Mr. Bill! I'm glad you want to hang out at the meet. It is a great place to get ideas for a project or just meet other gearheads. Between Econoline lovers and slot car fans I talked to a lot of people. smile

Thanks for posting the pics, Bill. Probably retire those cars to a display cabinet. Already have something planned for the next race. tongue

All those hours of practice plus a few discreet bribes of the corner marshals paid off. Thanks to all the racers who came over. See you at Monte's!

I agree on just having the Challenge champion moving up. The crash and burn can work with the right rules, but I still think it would cause more frustration than we would want at our races. The KISS rules work best. Gotta get my track uncovered and get some practice in! smile

Maybe we don't really need a rule as to how someone becomes an expert. It becomes obvious when you race someone if they are good or not. Thomas, Russell and Dorothy all have become very good drivers as they have proven by consistently winning the Challenge races to move up and race with the "experts". As for the different format we used at Monte's, it could work with a little tweaking. Dorothy scored well because she didn't crash. There were only five experts racing and of those, Monte sat out, Tracy crashed out early twice and Bill got the TooBad curse twice. That helped the three remaining drivers score big in the bonus points. It was a fun experiment, but it also can be frustrating to amateur drivers.

It was an interesting format for sure. Dorothy beat me! Who you are on the track with really can affect your score. I think we did say that once you won a NASTE race you were an expert. I'll never claim to be an expert, though.

Woohoo! I'm a junior slot racer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tongue

Woohoo! About time I join the conversations. It will be an interesting race Sunday if we use this new format. Just like NASCAR with their Jimmie Johnson rule this year, the best drivers will still find a way to win.
