Saturday March 13th was the day for the first race on the newly reconfigured Checkered Flag road course. The first race held on the course was for the OSCAR club's NASCAR Class. These are most likely some of the fastest "hard body" slot cars in the nation! The racing action was spectacular with lots of door to door battles all day long!

In the OSCAR race format qualifying starts the event. We had 13 racers for this event, each got 2 minutes on the blue lane to post their best/fastest lap time. Since this was the first race after the track's reconfiguration, a new lap record was set and broken a few times over. The new lap record at Inslot's Checked Flag Raceway for the Late Model OSCAR NASCAR Class is 4.548 seconds set by John Gill. With the reconstruction the new additional lap length increased lap times by approximately three quarters of a second.

After qualifying were moved directly into the race. The race consisted of 4 minute heat races, one on each of the four lanes, which equals one round. The race length was four rounds of racing which equals 64 minutes of on track race time. There was a 2 minute intermission between each heat race to allow for lane changes and cooling of the cars.

I was very pleased with how smoothly the race went, but especially pleased with the close racing the track provided. In my opinion I believe the changes to the track made it somewhat easier to negotiate. Even the novice racers and those that had never turned a lap on the new layout did extremely well! In the end just 4 laps separated the top four, with just one lap separating the top three, with first and second on the same lap! 5 laps covered sixth through ninth.

Results:

1. Stew Meat 765 Laps
2. Touring John  765
3. Terrible Tommy 764
4. Zack Attack
5. JP-niss 747
6. Bad Billy 730
7. Michael 730
8. Korbynator 727
9. Nak Nak Bob 725
10. Gearloose Jerry 696
11. Bart Man 691
12. Professor Fate Jim 592
13. Wrong Way Jeff (with relief driver Howie) 643 = DQ*
* Correction made to finish positions. Jeff had to leave for an emergency and was replaced by Howie as a back up driver.

It was an awesome day of racing! The weather was beautiful and it was so good to be with friends again at the track! There were so many smiles and so much laughter! Thank you to everyone that made it out!

I want to thank all those that helped me with the track work, especially Howie, John Gill, Beau, and Stewart. And a great big thanks to my son Greg for saving the old computer that runs the SRT track program! I look forward to the next racing event here!

I don't think anyone thought we'd be in "lockdown" this long........

I got my first COVID shot today.............so far I'm still alive and I only glow a little when the lights are out and I stand next to the wifi router........

I tried out my new video camera at this race. It is interesting how the track looks short from the angle I took the video.

This Early Modified was built by Howie years ago. Although it is not legal for the class I believe it was the inspiration for this very popular class of racing at Rapid Raceway!

Bummer Rico. It's those damn kids every time!

We'll see you next go around.

Yeah sorry Doc. I am working on trying to put something together for my track, maybe a Monday or Sunday thing...........

On Saturday March 13th Inslot's Checkered Flag Raceway in Vancouver will be hosting an OSCAR NASCAR race. The OSCAR rules for NASCAR will be in effect (the OSCAR Rules can be found elsewhere in this forum). The doors will open on race day at 8:00 AM, with tech inspection at 9:00 AM. The race is scheduled to start at 10:00 AM with qualifying.

Entry fee for this race is $10.00, which includes lunch from Firehouse Subs!

The track will be open for practice the day before the race, Friday March 12th. The track will open for practice at noon, and close at 10:00 PM.

OSCAR races provide participants with lots of track time! The race consists of 4 minute heat races, with a minimum of three rounds of racing on each of the tracks four lanes. Depending on attendance race length maybe extended to four full rounds.

Please be aware and considerate of the current CIVID 19 rules and precautions mandated by the state of Washington. Enforcement will be left to the participant's discretion.

It will be good to see racing going on at your place Mitch!

After a little practice Margo decided it was more challenging to run two cars at once!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QP1adAT4gE

Our son Greg and our granddaughter Margo stopped by today. Greg had repaired the old DOS computer that runs the SRT program for Inslot's Checkered Flag Raceway. Greg had checked out the computer and made some repairs after it failed to operate. Greg said he wasn't positive it would still run, but he had it hooked back up and operational is less than 20 minutes!

After the computer was back up it was time for testing which gave Margo and Greg a chance to get in some laps!

THANKS Greg!

Dave Smith had this awesome 1/24 Ford listed on Ebay. I missed out on it losing in the last 2 seconds of the auction......

Dave's Womps run so smooth it is hard to believe they are Womps! His recipe for Womp success is pretty simple, H&R 18K motor, 9 tooth pinion gear, 27 to 29 tooth crown gear, stock front wheels & tires, and a maximum of 1/2 inch wide rear tires. No bracing or modifications of the chassis, and no weight added.

Some WOMP video porn:

Dave Smith and Brian Tooley came up to visit from the Woodburn and Salem area. Dave brought with him a small fleet of Parma Womp cars. Now I have always enjoyed racing Womps, but Dave has these things dialed in! They run great and I can see where they would provide some very close fun racing at a low cost. At some point I was planning to have some sort of a Womp class as part of the racing program (whatever that ends up being) here at Inslot's Checkered Flag. Talking with Dave and running his cars I think I am close to having a set of rules to put to paper.

Here's some photos of some of Dave's Womps.
