So if I'm hearing this correctly, add the following to the rules outlined initially:

Solid front axle mod - OK
Gear swap for identical ratio - OK
Glue bearings into chassis - OK
Glue inside bearings to eliminate slop - OK
Chassis filing for float (1/16" max?)- OK

Does that capture all the intents?  I will write up something more scholarly later for the rules thread.

As for replacing vs adding the class and how to schedule its running, my personal opinion is to ADD it as its own stand alone category and I would definitely like to see it run at Bill's and Al's.  Until we build a critical mass, it may be easiest to run it as part of the current classics category- or we may have enough entries to start it off on its own immediately.

Thoughts?

A moment of quiet time between BRM heats at Al's this past Thurs night.  The astute observer may notice Mr Stan Smith at his THIRD Odd Thurs- IN A ROW!!!!!!  It's been great to see him on a bi-weekly basis instead of the semi-annual cadence up in Tacoma.

Man, too bad I missed the action.

Not...

I have a Tire Razor and think it does just fine.  Is it AWESOME???  I don't know.  Does it do a decent job if you tend to it?  Sure.

Is it the only one I've ever used so I have no basis for comparison?  Yep.

Glad I could help!

Yeah.  I don't think you have enough to do yet...

Don't let my other cars see these...  They'll get jealous!

Empirical data demonstrates that you're lost sometimes even with her.

Thanks for another stellar night of racing Bill!  It was indeed a good debut run for my new classic GT40 (was it 25 breakout laps?) and a good, impressively clean run for everyone in BRM's.  I was bummed to have my Cobra-bodied Cox DNF in the >50's but have addressed it now and it will hopefully be back and better than ever.  I have some work to do with my Trans Am car too, but hope to have something worked out for the next round.  I'm glad you enjoyed the BRM classics as well, they are great lookers and once we reach a critical mass of people who have them, I think we should stick them in the class rotation as well.

I am really looking forward to checking out Al's new track for the next Odd Thursday.  Time to get some rubber on it!

Thanks again!

Wow!!!  Even my wife thinks that looks awesome!!!  Can't wait to get some rubber down on it.

Looks great Al (and Mitch).

Chris

As always, thanks for an entertaining evening Bill.  It was definitely a fun one for me as well, even with the good-natured deterioration of the BRM spectacle.  It was an impressive debut for my new GT class Nissan and a reasonable night for my completely undeveloped CanAm car.  When I can't make an Odd Thurs, I really miss it!  Looking forward to spending a little more time with those cars and getting a little more speed out of them.

I eventually will get back to running and tuning at my house on a regular basis, and then hosting the circus as well.  Until then, I will be very happy to drive into turn 1 side by side at Too Bad.

Until the next Odd Thurs!

The unofficial NASTE entry for this year's Tacoma 24h was Team Oregon Donors, comprised of John Fisher, Stan Smith, Monte Saager, and me.  We had a great time at the event and did well with a top 10 finish (although truth be told, there were only 9 teams entered).  We ended up pulling off a a modest 7th, only 31 laps out of 6th, which would clearly have been a much more desirable finishing position.  Try as we might, we just couldn't close the gap to the PSSRA team in the end.

This year, Team BRM took the top step of the podium, with locals STP (Jeff and Colin Gartner, Barry Something, Brett Harrison & Scott "Monquispot" M) coming in second.  Narrowly missing out on that second step of the podium were The Energeezers, mostly from BC (Darren Morris, Alwyn Something- no relation to Barry, Gord Heath and ME!), came in third.  Two more local teams came in next- Team Brumos lead by John Powers, and Team EMSA lead by Pat Clifton, claiming fourth and fifth ahead of PSSRA and us.  The Piper-Attwood team came in next (eighth), lead by Alan himself, and rounding out the field in ninth was a family based team lead by Eddie and Jackie, who'd never run a slot car race before but still managed to do a great job keeping the car running.

Most every team had motor issues, some electing to change them out and some soldiering on bleeding.  Starting with the one which came in the car, we proceeded to remove and install an additional FOUR more for a total of- count them(!)- five motors.  We weren't the worst though.  Alan's team ran through SIX of them...  So yeah, bad batch of motors.  They had a number of them cut apart before the end of the race for a little failure analysis and will be paying a call/visit to the manufacturer.  The refreshing part is that Alan is standing behind his offerings and will be refunding or crediting back the cost of the motors.  Class act.

The motor we finished on was manufactured from a different batch.  Alan handed them out late in the race.  I wasn't sure it'd be worth changing but we really had little to lose, so we did.  Happily, it was a strong runner, and with WAY less time spent in the pits than last year, we were actually able to get out and pull some ground back on other teams.  Just not enough after 5 motor changes, although I was pretty quick with them after the first 2 or three...

It still is a bummer that mechanical woes so strongly influenced the results of the event, but it was still a very good time.  With fewer teams entered, it wasn't a NASCAR experience in the turns and there was a decent chance of you car surviving any given off (there were many).  Our car picked up its share of scars but is returning home in MUCH better shape than the McLaren of last year.

For next year, I would like to see at least 5 people on the team.  Start marking your calendars now- probably the second week of November if it's anything like the prior two years.  It's a good time!

In closing, I must tip my hat to my colleagues for covering the marshalling duties while I did double duty on the Energeezers.  It's not glamorous to marshal, especially for an hour at a time in the wee hours of the morning, but Stan, John, and Monte were absolute troopers to support my addiction.  Thanks for enabling me!

I ended up not taking many pics, and the ones I did get were on my cell phone, so they're not that good.  I will take a couple of the car when I finally get unpacked but here are the post-practice/pre-start condition (note the patina already taking shape), an extremely blurry action shots to prove it moves, and a zoom in on the monitor at the end of the circus, showing us 31 laps out of 6th after 9,841 laps of racing.

And I'll echo Rico...  THANKS Bill for a fantastic night of racing!  I thoroughly enjoy our Thurs evenings and appreciate the role of gracious host which you play, facilitating some very competitive racing.

And what great racing it is.  I was feeling good about my Trans  Am run during the race and had a great battle in the heats with Rico (I think that was him?), only to find out that even though I was only 1.4 laps from first, I was in SIXTH place!!  There was .3 laps between 3rd and 6th!!  We've got something going right here- I love the competitiveness of our classes.

I promise I'll keep the front end on the GT for the next 50's race, that car was hooked up and rocking.

Thanks again for the munchies and the great racing!

Bill,

Thanks for yet another awesome night of racing!  I happened to come out near or at the top of all the races but holy cow what a night of close heats.  I had two heats next to the Flying Goose where we went pretty much wheel to wheel for lap after lap.  Super close racing with great competitors, what a combination!  Thanks for playing host.

And then, to John Morse, THANKS for one of the coolest presents ever!  John built me a Mk II GT40 in with an official Kouba livery on it.  It looks AWESOME!!!!!  See for yourself:

Bill,

Thanks to you and everyone who showed up for another evening of awesome racing!  It was extremely competitive yet still casual and enjoyable- specifically going side by side with Goose in back-to-back Over 50 heats.  You've done a fine job striking a balance for Odd Thursdays, and it seemed like everyone else was having just as good a time as I was.  I know I've missed a number of racing evenings lately but it was one of the best nights of racing I've had in quite some time.

THANKS!!!

Chris
