Womp Class rules updated April 8, 2023

As indicated by recent discussions it appears to be time to revisit the PASER Womp Class rules and make some changes. Here are the rules we are currently racing under:

Stock Womp Class:

Class Goal: Keep this a budget class, limiting it to primarily STOCK 1/32 Parma Womp chassis, keeping the cars as close to OEM components as practical. Final motor spec will be determined with the goal of keeping the cars quick, with low cost motors.   Some speed may be sacrificed to gain better handling and closer competition.

Must use a STOCK 1/32 Parma Womp STEEL chassis. - NO modifications. That means NO bracing, NO bending, NO added weight,  etc.

Must use the stock 1/8" front axle, stock front wheels, and stock front "O" ring tires. Front wheels may be set up to rotate individually.

Minimum ground clearance of .055" at lowest point.

A final motor spec has not yet been determined. We are currently considering the Piranha 21.5K FC-130 S-Can (available through Professor Motor $7.99), and the Predator FC-130 25K S-Can (available through Slot Car Corner $7.99). I would personally rather use FK type motors, so I will check to see what is available at a low cost. It appears the Professor Motor FK 25K motor is no longer available. Until a final decision is made on a spec motor, we will allow any motor rated at 25K or less. This will also give us an opportunity to evaluate other motors. Please use motors that are READILY available to everyone!

Last night was PASER's Even Thursday Racing at Rob's Redline Raceway in Vancouver. We had 8 racers in attendance, just enough for four full lanes of racing with an adequate number turn marshals. First cars to the grid were Womp Class cars. The Womps are a handful on Rob's track, but they make for some close racing and a lot of fun! Kirk Smith and John Gill tied for first, with Kirk edging out John for the win with a better average lap time. Here's the results:

1st Kirk 158 laps 4.818 second average lap time
2nd John 158 laps 4.840 second average lap time
3rd Rob 153 laps 4.968 second average lap time
4th Daniel 153 laps 5.012 second average lap time
5th Tim 135.00 laps 5.731 second average lap time
6th Tommy 134.00 laps 5.680 second average lap time
7th Mark 118 laps 6.418 second average lap time
8th Bill 112 laps 4.530 second average lap time - DNF w/broken lead wire

After the Womp race the Flexi Class was up. In this class the new JK flexis are the weapon of choice. The performance of these cars, even unmodified, is just unbelievable! Even with lots of crashing, nerfing, bashing, and over running the corners, the top two spots broke the 200 lap mark! Here are the results:

1st Bill 208 laps 3.679 second average lap time
2nd John 205 laps 3.730 second average lap time
3rd Rob 197 laps 3.856 second average lap time
4th Kirk 192 laps 3.985 second average lap time
5th Daniel 191 laps 3.990 second average lap time
6thTim 173 laps 4.435 second average lap time
7th Tommy 163 laps 4.686 second average lap time
8th Mark 127 laps 6.010 second average lap time

Thanks Rob for providing us with a top notch racing facility and an awesome track to race on! Not to mention great coffee and cookies!

We just finished the fourth class, so I figured it was time for an update. Stuart has done a great job of instructing as well as helping all of the participants keep on track with their chassis builds. Everyone is on track for having their cars done at the end of the last class. If anything we are a little ahead of schedule! Thanks again Stuart for doing this! Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

Stuart not only offers building instruction and tips, he covers the principals of good chassis design.

Participants chassis are all looking really nice!

The soldering skills participants are developing are probably the hardest to master.

Al is demonstrating the level of concentration and attention the participants exhibit in each class!

Stuart Wall, a premier hardbody builder in the Pacific Northwest, was the instructor for last night's chassis building class. Stuart studied chassis building under Bob McFarland, and his level of skill reflects that tutelage. This first class focused on the building of the chassis center section, including the motor mount. Stuart supplied each student with pre-cut brass pieces, and the necessary wire and tubing. Each student cut and pe-assembled the pieces, after which Stuart demonstrated and assisted in soldering the pieces together. I'd like to thank Stuart for putting on this class for us, and congratulate him on an outstanding job with the instruction!

In response to inquiries, here is some clarification regarding the chassis rules for the Sportsman Class:

Chassis: Inline motor configuration only. Obviously, the chassis must have the motor in an inline configuration.

Chassis must be a rattle chassis (Hanna/Econo car type chassis). Rattle Chassis meaning no hinges. Once referred to as a "Slider Chassis".

No hinges, or hinged (floppy) side pans. Obviously, no hinged side pans allowed in any form.

The chassis cannot have more than two main components (center section & side pans assembly) with independent movement. Only the center section (one component) of the chassis and the side pans (the other component of the chassis) can move independently of each other.

Chassis must have a center section consisting of the inline motor mount and the guide flag tongue. The guide flag tongue and the motor mount, must be attached to the center section of the chassis as one single component.

Two side pans can be attached to the center section using tubing and wire, but the two side pans cannot be hinged to the center section. The side pans can be connected to the center section but, not by or with the use of a hinge.

Side to side, as well as up and down movement of the side pans is permitted. The side pans can move up and down or side to side, independently of the center section.

After the Flexi Class the Sportsman Class cars took the track. We had 9 racers for this race. When the checkered flag dropped John G. had again crossed the line first!

PASER opened the doors at Inslot's Checkered Flag Raceway to 13 racers for last night's Even Thursday Night racing. The doors opened at 5:00PM for practice. During the practice session the JK RTR cars were introduced. A couple racers that already had the JK cars let some of the other racers try them out. By the end of practice both of the cars PASER had in stock were sold! These cars are awesome right out of the box!

The first class to grid for the night was the Flexi Class. The class was made up of both new JK RTR cars as well as older race prepped Parma Flexis and Champion cars. By the end of the race the new JK cars had showed their worth finishing first, third, fourth, and fifth. Congrats to John G. on his win! Three racers missed single laps due to "rider" incidents. Al's lap totals shown should include one additional for an actual total of 175 laps, placing him in 7th just one lap ahead of Bart. Rob's actual total is 170, one lap more than shown, but does not change his 9th place finish position. Kirk's lap total should be 190 with him still in 5th place.
