Thanks for an excellent evening of racing Bill.  I had a great time and with some very close racing.  Congrats to Rico on a well-earned win in the Le Mans category.

Regarding Can Am...

2 Terr Abbott  57.0
3 Dan Fritz  56.6

6 Bill Bostic  54.8 - 1st in USRRC
7 Mitch Brooks  53.0

Terry's entry (the Scuderia Kouba GT40) is actually USRRC.

And he'd like to buy a vowel...

Also, proposal for class specs:

Gp C - NASTE spec (red motor, stock tires, traction mag)
Classics - Box stock (black motor, non-mag, rubber tires)
GT - Box stock (black motor, non-mag, rubber tires)

Should mean that anyone who has one can just true the tires, tune the chassis, and run it.

I have a GT car or two which I can offer.  If we have the track for the day, it'd be a shame to not take advantage of it.  If we need to IROC them, so be it.

I also have entries for the other two classes.  Can't wait to go racing!!

If we have the track for the day/evening and people may be coming from afar, let's run them all!

One of Mitch's videos:

https://www.facebook.com/mitch.brooks.9 … 889842948/

I was glad to see so many people make it out for the first night at Casa Kouba.  Thanks for coming over!  Glad you guys enjoyed it.

It's a tight fit in the track room but it did seem to work out well enough.  Sorry that the race management was a little outdated, and that after many, many hours of testing and validating, the start/stop relay function phoned it in for the night.  I saw Mitch posted some videos on FB in which I was tagged, so I had to log in and check them out.  Thanks for posting Mitch.  If anyone else had pics from the evening, please link them up here as well.

It is my goal to update the software before the next event, and possibly even the hardware, but don't hold your breath for that part.  I've got gravity cars to build!

I had a friend that lived on Crystal Lane off of northeast 47 avenue when we were kids. The houses on the north side of the street bordered the slew. The sewer piping in those houses dumped directly into the slew. We would go fishing behind his house and the other houses along that slew. When we heard a toilet flush and water running into the slew we would cast our bait there. The carp fishing behind those houses was always really good!

But let me guess...  They tasted like $#iT!

Everyone calls it the Longview bridge, right?

Yeah- except the people from Longview.  They just call it "the bridge".  Kind of like having Mexican food in Mexico.  They just call it "food".

Here, we (ok, *I*) do refer to it as the Oregon City bridge, but technically, I think it's correctly called the Arch Bridge, or you could generically refer to it as the Route 43 bridge.

Lane spacing is big enough for the BRM's to pass with reasonable comfort but I forget without actually measuring it.  If it's too narrow or too wide, does that mean you're out?  Too tough to nerf someone?  Too easy?  Is Goose coming?

Sounds like there are enough interested parties to call it an event.  I will plan on it, see you all there- or should I say "here"?

Chris

Monte, I can't believe it'd take you longer to get to the OC than to Bill's on any given evening.  What would a rallyist do?

I know a guy who cleaned up his basement and is willing to host an evening of slot car racing, but one which doesn't interfere with the normal ebb and flow of events.  To this end, perhaps an Even Thursday would work?  Maybe next week?

Some pics of the track can be found here:

https://goo.gl/photos/frVPYQRsEFeV93Z46

It's short but flowy, a good lap is in the low 3-second range.  It's painted with non-mag primer, and has copper tape and a Pyramid power supply set to 10v.  Rubber tires work best.

It hasn't been run on in a while, so there may be teething problems but it's all for fun anyway, right?  How about a condensed championship night: run TA, Le Mans, Classics 1?  Perhaps close the night with BRM's and/or 50's?

Normal schedule, doors at 4, racing at 6 (or 6+)?  Oregon City is the location...  I will be happy to post my address later and then take it down after the party's over.  I'm "near" Rivercrest Park though, which is here:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/River … 22.6076418

Who is interested?

His seating area is now completed and we are working through completing the triangulation of the chassis.  We'll need to find him some open cell foam to make some seat cushions now.

It is almost time to start thinking about the paint booth for the chassis and then body panels.  EXCITING!!!!

We then made two runs down the hill- one with Bill behind the wheel, the other with Dave Smith, who came up from Salem this morning to check out the circus.  He also very graciously donated a mini-bike project he'd run out of effort for to our cause:

Scuderia Kouba is officially a two car team!

Bill came over for an excellent half day in the shop, where we proceeded to wreak havoc with steel tube and weld wire.  By the end of the evening, there were two fully functional (but far from finished) gravity racers heavy on their wheels.  Out in front of Casa Koubano there is a small hill, and despite it being dark already, the night was not to be considered complete until laps were run.

Bill in his new pride and joy:

Apologies for the crappy picture quality but it was all that my cell phone can do.

The cars are remarkably smooth now that they are riding on pneumatic tires.  They simply swooshed along over the road.  The difference in ride quality was unbelievable and made the exercise well worth the effort.  I am very excited to try them out on the open road.

Once Bill's chassis gets a little more complete and I redesign my steering column (I re-designed my front axle, now need to finalize the steering column), we will be ready for more testing runs.  I am keeping an eye out on weather further east in the Gorge for a good testing day in the near future.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas, see you all tomorrow night for Odd Thurs!

Chris

Well then, I am planning in being there.  See you eventually...

Roads look a little crappy on the web cams.  That said, I haven't been out yet because I don't have to...  Are we still on for this evening?

docdoom wrote:

What color are they calling that on the cars?

I don't know what BRM will call it, but Monte's calling it "5th"!

Word from Monte was the Donors II team pulled down 5th overall.  Nice work!!!

It was again a fun event and the new cars are excellent.  I think they will go over very well with the American market and hopefully appeal to a wide audience, drawing new faces to the hobby.  They look fantastic and handle very well for muscle cars- very similar to our 1/32 TA cars, just in a larger scale.  I look forward to seeing production versions of them soon (March is the word).  I hope enough of us are interested in these to pick one up and work them into a class rotation once they are available.

I still have parts of my car!

Wow!  It's tight at the top!

Hey everyone,

With the discussion last night, I called Tacoma and got two more Donors on the team roster.  As it stands, we are:

Oregon Donors:
Chris Kouba
Mitch Brooks
Stan Smith
John Fisher
Bill Bostic
Al Christensen
Rico Locati

The Oregon Donors Too:
Monte Saager
Tony Kuljis
Ray Bishop
Doug Yarborough

Mitch, Al, and Rico were strong "maybes" so we will distribute them as we see fit if they make it up.  The important thing is they are on the roster.

Whoever can make it up during the week, there is lots of racing and practice time on the track.  Come on up!

CK

Different camper but will have same capacity.  You're set Stan.

Captain Monte has already grabbed the reins...  We are now two teams, divvy'd up exactly as you'd expect.  Or not...  Our posted roster on SCI has us split in the following manner:

Looking forward to it.

Team drivers so far:
Chris Kouba
Mitch Brooks
Stan Smith
John Fisher
Bill Bostic

The Oregon Donors Too:
Monte Saager
Tony Kuljis
Ray Bishop
Doug Yarborough

Anyone who's offended that they didn't get on the team they wanted to is clearly too sensitive to be playing with us...

I will be heading up there Thurs AM and will stay through the conclusion of the activities on Sun.  I recommend trying to get there for as much track time as possible- there are plenty of races and quite a bit of open track time and as Captain Monte says, we all could use some trigger finger practice.

Look forward to turning laps with you all and breaking in (not BREAKING!) the new cars!

Interesting...  Bringing out 2 Euro models and then 2 domestic models at the same time.  Very nice!  Not terribly inclined to pick one up (well, not yet anyway) but they do look cool.

I am very much looking forward to finding out what our enduro cars are!
