Remember guys,

The only reason this class exist in the first place was because we all had cars in our box and at home that wouldn't compete with the other cars we were racing.

The point was to have a class where we could race these, fly, Scalextric, Ninco, ect against each other in their stock form.

After a couple of rounds we allowed for wheel and axle changes as some of the factory ones were so horribly bad.

in doing so we accidentally created one of the closest most popular classes in the club.

In other classes such as Trams Am Bill decided to use the Black stripe motors because the Pioneer motors were dominating so badly. We decided to use the H&R motor in classic sports car for a similar reason.

We already have a rule in the club that if one car dominates a particular class too many times we can black flag it. I've never seen this rule used, But I'm always looking for another "over 50" car just in case.

Well said Mitch! I enjoy this class quite a lot. I think there are plenty of cars out there that can win this class, my car is good for sure but I believe it can be beaten. In fact my 908/3 is only 1 tenth off on lap times, but just a tick harder to drive. That said, I am slowly building 2 more right now!

I think the black flag rule is a good one, but only if people are actually working within the ruleset to knock someone off. I think we have seen this happening in many of the classes lately, and the racing has been all the better for it.

It is funny that like most racing, the powerplant is one of the least concerning items! We already know H&R cars can be fast enough to go 6.5s if the gearing is opened up. So I say if the racing is close....why change.

I mean, LeMans was some of the closest racing I have seen in our club.....is this really much of a problem?

I think discretion is the main thing. If I thought I had the fastest car on the straights then I would just find another one of my 10 black stripes to put in like you did. My car isn't the fastest on the straight. I honestly think the H&R in my gt40 is much faster than the motor I currently have in my lemans car.

Just seems like if the racing is good and we haven't spent any extra, then why go spec motor on another class.

I would be ok with a spec motor also, However I am not a big fan of the H&R myself. I know there are not a ton of 18k options out there, and most people already have these.... Plus it just adds cost to this class, which is already one of the more expensive cars to build for our club since you have to replace nearly everything.

I thought I would post up the parts list and pictures for my LeMans build here. I have had a look at the Fly Ferrari 512's as well as the Lola MK3 etc, and the parts should pretty much be the same.

One thing, my Spirit model did have independent front wheels. However the axle bores were the same as a standard 3/32 axle. So one could just be inserted. If you have the larger Fly axle bores. A piece of 3/32 internal diameter brass or styrene tubing can be used to put a solid axle in the front.

Front tire diameter should be tuned to make sure the guide is full seating, and you may need some spacers on the guide to get it just right.

I will be posting pics up later on tonight when I can pull the car apart and document it well.

Parts:
Slot.it 11t Sidewinder Brass pinon. Part# SIPS10

Slot.it 36t Sidewinder Spur gear (you need a 19mm gear). Part# SIGS1936

Slot.it Axles front and rear (I always buy the long ones and cut to length) Part# SIPA01-54

Cb Designs 15x12 Rear insert wheels. Part #CBD1200

I used stock Slot.it plastic wheels on front, you can easily use the stock wheels and tires up front as well.

Slot.it Axle bushings Part #SIPA02

Slotting plus EVO deep wood guide Part # SP101004

Slot.it Tinned soft braid (for tape tracks) Part# SISP18

NSR Supergrip F1 Rear tires. Part# NSR5220.

I will have some install advice and pictures here later on today! I will also be prepping another car, and documenting it step by step as I have done in the past.

I just finished up the basic chassis for Rico's Chaparral.

It is .055 piano wire main rails, with flexi pans mount on .022 wire to keep the main chassis flexible. It accepts standard Slot.it inline pods.

Hopefully the performance will be as good as it looks when finished. He has a lot of grinding and modeling to do, then we can mount it up!

The next one is Doc's now that I have setup wheels here!

Zack

Mitch, yours must have screamed! My stock one was only 19 xxx, which is about what my 3 broke in fly motors are.

Zack

The motor I pulled out of mine wouldnt have been any difference to be honest. It had a black stripe. But i had a broken in fly motor already so I just tossed it in.

Zack

Doc, i am hoping not I will be at SEMA that week.

Zack

Just looking over the calendar, there are no races the 17th, what about nov 7th?

I think they've probably got a few other cars that might qualify.  I think Bill has the complete Spirit collection, Bill?

And Chris, can we update the rules for the class to include the Spirit cars?

Zack, what tires were you running?

The car was on 15x12 cb design wheels and F1 sized NSR Supergrips. I think that is the primary advantage of the 512, the rear tires are huge, so with no power it is easy to get something that is just locked in all the time!

Zack

Monte, yeah we talked about that last time we were racing. I don't believe it has any advantage over the fly versions of the 512, but it would be good to add the manufacturer to the list so other people don't question their choice as well.

Zack

What an great night at Al's place! We had good racing across all the classes and a big turnout for the first points event of the year.

Al pulled out the win over me by just a couple tenths of a lap, he put in some work on his car in the down time and it showed. With my first heat being a little rough I couldn't catch him!

In LeMans the whole middle of the field was tight, and it was some of the best racing I have seen at Al's place. Almost every heat had great battles throughout.

Open is always fun, Rico's and Kouba's slot.it cars beating out a few thunderslots for the podium!

Rico won BRM as usual! Kouba gave him a heck of fight however, with only a few tenths victory.

I got a couple shots of the podium cars and whatnot.....

As the rule is, I think leaving the screws loose on the back of that chassis would be a real grey area. It says "separate articulating" in the first part. But I think the last sentence would exclude being able to use this chassis with the rear screws loose, because it specifically says: No movement or dampening is allowed between the main chassis piece and the motor pod.

That said, It seems the 3d chassis are softer than the normal plastic ones so there may be some more flex in there just because of that. On top of a possibly lower ride height.

Rule:
Chassis construction must be rigid with no separate articulating pieces such as hinged side pans, motor pods, or suspension type front axle mounts. Podded chassis will be allowed in Division I provided the chassis motor pod mounting screws are tightened AND the pod is permanently glued making the chassis compliant with the solid chassis rule. Mitch, Yeah i am using the standard 18mm slot.it pinion. Unless you switch to a NSR 17.5 there isn't much shorter than that. The 18x8 is just too short, it must have been meant for use with a angle or inline car.

Hey guys, I just thought I would share this information with you as the rules for this class have changed this year. While it isn't a points class this season, I have been slowly trying to get my car working better with the 8mm wheel and tire rule.

I first tried the NSR Supergrip 18x8 tire on a CB design 15x8 wheel. These tires once trued ended up being too short, I had to sand my spur just to be able to get some laps on the car! They also, even though advertised as 8mm ended up being something more like 8.2 unless you sanded them some.

I then found most of the proxy racers are using the NSR Classic 20x8.5 for all classes that require a 8mm spec tire. So I picked up some. Funnily enough these measure only 7.5-7.6 mm once trued up, and right at 8 even at the sidewalls when mounted on a 8mm wheel. The best part is they are 19.7 tall after I trued them, so they look more scale and have plenty of spur gear clearance.

I have not ran the car yet, but I feel this is going to be a very good option for those of us who would like to use a rubber tire for Thursday night racing.

They can be purchased at professor motor, and likely every other place on the internet.
