Rico, if you want, you can bring the car over and solder that pinion on and it will not come loose again.
It is really hard to put enough effort in soldering a pinion on while racing, just too much in a hurry to get back in the race!

Back when I was getting ready to order braid for Rapid, I suggested to Bad Bob about using steel braid, he said: "No, never use steel braid, someone will sneak magnets in their car"!! So magnets will do no good here. But Bill's car ( Bad Bob's chassis ) was like a magnet car!
I was wondering where you were Mr. Bell, not like you to miss a race. Hope to see you at Rapid on the 23rd.

Sorry you had to leave early Rico.
It was a fun night for me despite my ill handling car.
Watching Bill during the race reminded me of what Mario Andretti said one time: "if you think you have complete control, then your not going fast enough"! Bill looked like he was using magnets!! I was in a few heats with him and I kept saying to him " Are you back passing me again so soon"? No way in hell was I even close to keeping up with him. I am happy he took the win.

Ok, I am back.
The way I see it is: Chris asked first for the cars, then Matt wanted them. I would like to do this: Sell one to Chris and one to Matt, but first I have to get a hold of Chris to see if he is still interested. Stay tuned!

John Gill brought two Lexan McLaren Can-Am 1/24th. cars over to sell. They are 4" wheel base. One chassis was made by Bob McFarland and the other was made by Beau. They are both ready to go except for rear tires and one will need new front tires in order to race. $40.00 each. I sent Bill the pictures so when he has time the pictures will be here. My #503-252-7692. Howie.

I went to the Fruit stand not far from the house to buy a gallon of milk for the grand kids yesterday. When one of them started pouring milk into a bowl of cereal he said: "oh crap, this milk is sour". Sure enough it was mighty chunky! Took it back and there was a sign on the outdoor refrigerators stating, "sorry, no milk is available, all the milk in these outdoor refrigerators is no good". They must have discovered after I bought my milk that the milk had gone sour. Beings they are closed on Sunday, I imagine the hot temps all day Sunday was too much for the units outdoors. A lot of milk inventory went to hell.

We were there probably 25-30 yrs. ago. It is like Disneyland to me: once is enough. We did enjoy it though. If the taxes are like Docdoom says, that will make up a lot of people's mind on where to go for a vacation.

Ok, finally finished the Classic NASCAR. It is not perfect, when I clear coated it the paint wrinkled in a few spots, I have to tell my self: "Self, it is a slot car, it will get beat up, so get over it"! I mounted the body with home made pins. I soldered brass angle to the pans and bent it to contour with the body and taped the body in place and drilled the mounting holes and used .040" piano wire and bent it to fit the holes. Bill will post the pictures for me when he gets time. As always: Thanks Bill !!

Thanks Matt. Here is the latest: I got an old can of spray paint out, I have had it around for years, it kind of matched the blue color on the box. I heated up the can as usual before painting, everything came out ok except the hood. It had a rough coating for some reason, so I sanded it and re sprayed, not any better! So I am going to sand the whole car and buy a new can of spray paint. I know this is a slot car and doesn't have to be show quality, but I have my limits as to what is acceptable for my eyes.................................even slot cars that will get beat up!!! LOL.

Re: Slot Car Racing History in Portland Area (24 replies, posted in The NASTE Library)
Very interesting history. I didn't move to Portland 'till late in '68. Moved from Rapid City, SD. Even as small as Rapid City was compared to Portland, they still had two huge commercial tracks. I never raced at either one, but I remember them. I do remember Petite Karts though. By the time a buddy of mine was interested in getting back into slot cars ( in the '70's ) there were no tracks left. We went to a bicycle shop to buy some slot car parts, I believe it was in N. Portland and asked if there was any slot racing around and he mentioned Dundas. We drove to the Dundas track in Willsonville, watched the race ( I remember Gearloose ) but we thought it was too far away to race. Years later while at Slot Car Central, ( who was closing down ) Greg Vergis come over to where I was playing with a slot car and I was invited by him to a track in Willsonville, I was shocked that it was the same track in the barn that I visited years before. That is how I got involved with PACER/OSCAR.

Wynn's/Kmart continues. First picture is cutting the plastic around the tire using a Dremel drum sander. Second picture is adding JB Weld for body putty. Bill turned me onto the JB Weld as a body filler. I was skeptical as I have used JB Weld on a lot of stuff but never on plastic model kits. It worked out fine, sands easy etc. Third picture is after sanding. Fourth picture is after using Bondo glazing putty and sanding. Fifth picture is in primer.............To be continued.
