Topic: Open Track and BBQ at TooBad Motorplex - Saturday August 24th

Please mark your calendars for  a BBQ and open track day at TooBad Motorplex in Fairview on Saturday August 24th. For those of you who have not had a chance to visit this would be an excellent opportunity as I will have our home and track open ALL day!

I have been asked by some racers to have a "build day" like we did in the early days of NASTE. So from 8:00am until 11:30am I will have tables set up with soldering equipment and jigs to facilitate chassis building. In addition I have available for use a drill press, belt & disc sander, and a metal cutting bandsaw. If you're interested in chassis building just bring your parts including motor, wheels, axles, guide, motor mount etc., and some brass and steel rod. If you're unsure what you might need just shoot me an email.

At 11:30am I will start the BBQ to cook up some hamburgers and hot dogs. I will have pop available, but feel free to bring your own drinks if you prefer.

The track will be open for play or whatever from 8:00am until whenever the last person leaves (or I need to go to bed, which would be by midnight - I may be retar'd, but I still need to get up sometime the next day!).

If you have not yet visited my track, it is a 3 lane routed MDF track with copper tape and a lap length of 84 feet. The power supply is variable, and driver's stations use alligator clips.

Our pond fish will probably be out frolicking and searching for food, and available for viewing, but please NO FISHING (or swimming!).

I am hoping to see some new faces and also some of my old slot car buddies I have not seen in awhile. Us old guys always talk about getting together, well here's our chance!

Thanks for some great racing last night, as usual I had a splendiferous time.

You are most welcome Rico!

And I must say you had a splendiferous finish as well!

Re: Open Track and BBQ at TooBad Motorplex - Saturday August 24th

One of the NASTE racers suggested having a buy/sell/swap table set up.

Sounds like a good idea to me, so I'll have a table set up for that if anyone wants to bring out some stuff they'd like to part with. (I know I have SOME stuff to put out!).......

Re: Open Track and BBQ at TooBad Motorplex - Saturday August 24th

How large a table?  ;-)

COOL!!!

We'll make room!!!

Re: Open Track and BBQ at TooBad Motorplex - Saturday August 24th

7:20am - Well, today's the day!  Haven't done this for a few years!

I've got tools and equipment out and ready for the morning workshop.

Got burgers and hot dogs awaiting the grill.

And of course the track is ready to go!

I'm ready anytime y'all are!   ---------------------Bill

And that's a nice set of Scaley F1's you'll be getting too!

Re: Open Track and BBQ at TooBad Motorplex - Saturday August 24th

Yeah!

I sold the set I originally had on Ebay.  Now I'll have a used pair I can feel fine about running!!!

Re: Open Track and BBQ at TooBad Motorplex - Saturday August 24th

I'd like to thank everyone who made it out to the BBQ yesterday! We had a great turn out of 27 people and 2 little kids. There were new and current racers as well as racers from the past. We ate hamburgers and hot dogs and potato salad and coleslaw and beans and cake and cookies and candy until we were stuffed!

I do apologize for not being better prepared for the workshop. I think we need to plan some workshops for next season, with the focus on car building alone. It was obvious we needed at least two thrash tables!

The buy/sell/trade area seemed to be a hit as well (thanks Dennis for the suggestion!).

Thanks June and Dorothy for all your help and food contributions!

All in all I think it went pretty well, and I had a great time, and really enjoyed the company of all my friends!   --------------------Bill

Re: Open Track and BBQ at TooBad Motorplex - Saturday August 24th

And thank to Bill for hosting a great event.  As stated we ate until we could eat no more and then didn't let that stop us.

Ya know, if we built 10 cars in a production line fashion...  I can adjust the body screws!

It was a lot of fun Bill!!    great turnout and thanks for being the grill master with the hamburgers and hotdogs....   good eats!   that's a great idea also about just a build day... to keep focused....   and if we do the production line work I will  be quality check after Monte adjusts the body screws.

We had a great time! Thanks everyone for the food, fun and help! big_smile

By example of my mad thrashing skills, I'm not even qualified to supervise the production line work.  hmm

If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Re: Open Track and BBQ at TooBad Motorplex - Saturday August 24th

Sounds like I missed a great time, but unfortunately I had a plumbing nightmare that had to be addressed.

Re: Open Track and BBQ at TooBad Motorplex - Saturday August 24th

As far as the trashing goes, the Flood's were the clear winners there! They were heads down and elbows up for the entire day! Nice work guys!

So, for the next workshop we have Monte screwin', Bryan checkin' Monte, and Tracy watchin" ?  I'm not sure I'm OK with that!

I'm so glad we didn't have any "plumbing" problems after eating my burgers and dogs!!!!   ------------------------Bill

Re: Open Track and BBQ at TooBad Motorplex - Saturday August 24th

Thanks Bill!

I'm thinkin' I'll be needing a blindfold and earplugs for that job. roll
