dibs! theres a brm kit  on e bay right now that's at only 19.95....couple days to go but I am watching....probably a waste of time but you never know

Wow - another great night of racing, rambling, and razzing. Missing a few weeks then coming back makes one realize how much this hobby is missed. Thanks to everyone again for the help and advice, special thanks to Chris for fixing the gear mesh on my BRM and imparting his special Kouba turbo mojo on it !!. I don't know if its the tightening up on the rules but man there were some close races last night, really cool to see detailed cars all of an era battling it out all on the same lap, personal best for me was getting 50 laps in the classic sports cars, amazing how staying in the slot can improve lap count! Also if anyone needs something turned or machined please know that you are welcome to come over, I have a small lathe that's fun to play with, Thanks again, John.

Thanks guys, I enjoy building stuff like that, I am looking for a single mill file I can cut a section out of and mount to a block to fit in the recess for the BRM stock tires....they can get weird when you sand them- I think I overheated and ruined mine- and per Chris's excellent help the file just works best...I am looking for a better rheostat so the voltage adjustment will be more linear- that was one I had laying around and works ok with the smaller 1/32 motors but those big ole snortin 50 year old 36d's draw so many amps it kinda turns into an on or off switch! All you guys have been generous with your time and advice to help me so am happy to give back !

Thanks to everyone for another great night of racing and camaraderie, fantastic to have Bill up and at it again and health issues on the mend ! growing old is not for sissies!

doggone it Bill I was gonna surprise you with this at the next odd Thurs, picked it up for around 25 bucks on e-bay including shipping ( being the tightwad that I am 30 bucks seems to be my limit for buying junk lately) anyways it's a steel womp-no body but other than some surface corrosion on the chassis looks to be in decent shape-I cleaned it up a little-polished the front rims and I want to donate it to your womp- tacular collection, but then you go out and find a cheaper one yourself!. Oh well- I'll bring it Thursday Merry Christmas! p.s. it came with some orange foam tires also- not sure which were the originals these look like magnesium rims and I hate tires that aren't black - if I can remember I'll bring those rims also as I figured you could strip off the foam and maybe use the rims.

Man I wish I could have been there Thursday, looks like some amazing tight racing, always fun for me to watch you guys that actually know how to drive have those ding dong wheel to wheel battles. Hey Goose don't give up on the hard bodies and go lexan yet...my tires finally showed up so am hoping to get  some of my old hard stuff finally done and on the track...you wont be the only one with styrene parts flying!

Well I think folks must be watching this site and speculation purchasing what they think will be the next candidate for cheap rides....the parma womps went for 52 bucks and 61 bucks today....I know I had seen womp womps not that long ago unsold-0 bidders with a starting price of 9.99. Bill I think you're just gonna have to keep your quest for cheapness on the downlow until after testing and we can then grab some before the word gets out. I guess overall though the uptick in pricing and sales across the board is showing a positive growth or at least interest in the hobby...I know I have had a blast with everyone and really look forward to the get together's.

I ended up biting the bullet and ordering the repro windshield for 19.99 plus shipping- I vac formed a really decent one-(after about 6 tries) but then figured what the heck might as well do it correct since I had so much time in getting the body ready for paint. Well I actually like the shape or contour of my formed windshield better- the repop is flat or "squareish" on top - I don't remember it being that way as a kid, and it didn't have the little posts on the bottom that index into the interior so was kinda hard to mount and needed some trimming but it's got the windshield wiper and corner posts so it's ok. I think maybe he made the mold with a 3d printer- hence the flat bottom-no posts. On the vwomps I can spill the beans now- ive been watching two of them on e-bay, they were around 12 bucks complete...well just checked and the first one is now over 41 bucks! they end today and it will be interesting to see how high they go- I think you can still find em new for less than that- or at least all the parts- I know I've seen the steel chassis for 9.99 on somebody's site... I hope it's not all Naste members bidding each other up!. P.S. I think I posted the car pics under the wrong topic but I don't know how to move em.

P.S. If anyone needs something to race in the over 50 I am getting quite a collection of classic stuff and you are all welcome to borrow and race - my goal is to replace the Manta ray and garvic bodies with more realistic stuff from the era- primarily can am and etc. but in the mean time they are runners and anyone racing a manta ray while wearing a top hat ala Ed Big Daddy Roth should get 3 bonus laps added to their total just for style!

This showed up today-again amazingly cheap on e bay...might be due to the body...aye carumba! its called a Hussein...I guess as in Saddam..dead wrinkled and filthy, but the chassis is what I was after and it actually looks amazingly straight and low time- no scratches on the motor can from bottoming like mine in the roadster and the motor brushes are full height and original so real low time- These are easy to adapt hard bodies to so that's my plan and of course more tires from our friend in Canada

I call it the Craparrell

This is a cox Chaparrel I got amazingly cheap- less than 45 bucks I think on ebay- it was in real bad shape crappy paint, glue all over everything but the chassis looked cleaner than my original, well after painfully stripping and sanding and clearcoating the windshield to hide the sanding scratches and repainting this is what I end up with- now waiting for tires and decals- I couldn't go with the brown repro decals ( only a Texas oil inheritance millionaire would paint a race car brown) (nuthin personal Jim Hall, just sayin) and I needed a dark color to hide some bad bodywork on top so went with a metallic blue theme, might try to make my own light lenses from acrylic or may just leave em out as I heard the real ones fell out all the time also.

Here's the body mount idea

This is a Lola body for a classic chassis- the moon buggy looking manta rays just don't cut it for me ( with all due respect to Ed big daddy Roth the bubble top master) this is not the body I would like its one of those retros I think- too thin .010 and too wide and square looking but with enough decals its not too bad- I didn't want to screw up the pristine classic chassis so I came up with a body mount of 1/16 brass tubes slipped thru existing body mount screw holes held in place with some wheel collars and the old bent pins- kinda scrunched the sides in a little and it doesn't look too bad - and hey its for Brian Dickerson to race so its not like I have to be seen with it right?.

Been working on restoring some old junk for the over 50 class, This progress is painfully slow because everything has to be found and ordered online, I sure miss the real hobby shops of the old days but selling a few sets of tires and braids and maybe a body or two just wont pay the support a store now a days. Any way this first pic is of the Monogram Ford I had as a kid- chassis sorted, body stripped ( amazingly without melting it) repainted, driver detailed, Paul gage tires, windshield replaced and now just waiting on decals-can't find originals so will use repro cox gt 40, not as dark blue as they should be but oh well, gotta get this thing done so can crash it !
